DeVault/Dewalt/Tevault DNA project

I finally have this up and running and I'm hoping to get some folks interested in joining. My ancestors came from PA and VA in the 1700's and were often listed as being Tevaults (until about 1820), or other variations. I can trace my line back to Jacob and Mary Michael DeVault who came to the Monongalia County, WV area around 1795.

After seeing how surnames evolved, I believe that many of the lines could be related. I'm looking at DeVault, TeVault, Dewalt, Devaul and a few other lines. Here's more information.

I also attended some of the reunions held in Grove City with my grandparents, Francis and Warren Arthurs. I am trying to learn more on our branch of the DeWalt family. John Wilson DeWalt son of David and grandson of Henry is our line. Any info you might have would be helpful as I am just starting this project.

Samuel was the son of James and Eleanor Huey Hoy.
"They were married at the residence of the William Thompson of Washington,
PA, by the Rev. David Kirkpatrick, DD. After the ceremony Samuel and
Susannah went on horseback to the home of Mr. Hoey's mother, where they
began housekeeping and where their children were born and reared.
Susanna DeWalt was born June 24, 1820, a daughter of Peter and Charlotte
Mauck DeWalt of Delmont. Her parents died when she was but a child, and
until her marriage she was supported entirely by her own effort."

I am research my family ancestry. My grandmother on mom's side was Frances Willard DeWalt, daughter of John Wilson and Anna Heiscel DeWalt, married Warren Arthurs. As a child I attended reunions in Grove City with them. I would be interested in any info that you might have on this lineage.

of Manor, died Saturday, July 16, 2011,
in Briarcliff Pavilion, North Huntingdon.
He was born July 16, 1938, in Allentown, a son of the late Forrest K. and Aldine (Kane) DeWalt. Prior to retirement, he was a machinist at General Weldments Inc. in Irwin. He also served in the Army. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Victor M. and Bruce DeWalt; and a sister, Gloria Thompson. He is survived by his beloved wife, Nancy (Fullerton) DeWalt; and four children, daughters, Debra Yurick, of North Huntingdon, Roseanna Boettner and Vickie Allman, both of Jeannette, and a son, Rory DeWalt of Greensburg; and eight grandchildren, Tyler Tatter-DeWalt, Derek, Michael, Rachel Allman, Brianna, Nathan Boettner and Austin, Brady DeWalt. He is also survived by two sisters, Carol Barret, of Souderton, and Janice Schlisinger, of Florida; and many nieces and nephews. Family and friends are invited to celebrate Dale's life at 11 a.m. Saturday, where a memorial service will be held in the Herminie Fire Department Social Hall. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family in care of the funeral home. Hello again. I know it's been a while. I seem to work on this stuff on and off. My sister and I are in Peoria at the moment and are going to the Peoria Library Geneaology Center. We went there last year and it was an awesome find. This year we've come more prepared and plan to do a lot of research. We will let you know what we find. I know you sent my sister the info you had on Family Tree and also a picture taken at a family reunion. Our grandfather looked like he was about 6 months old in the picture. We are constructing a comprehensive book of all the information we find and are looking for any old diaries, letters or other pictures. Please let me know if you have anything or know where we might look. Also would like any information on any DeWalt family reunions that may take place. My 2nd G-Grandfather, Thomas Waters DeWalt (b. 01/07/1822)came to Texas in about 1845 and established a plantation just southwest of Houston. The plantation turned into DeWalt, Texas. Unfortunately, the town has been overtaken by Missouri City. We have a DeWalt Cemetery where reunions are held in May every year or so. I have about 75 direct descendants in our family tree.

I am looking for information for Margaret Bush Braddock, born ca 1856 in Washington County, the daughter of Henry and Elizabeth Ames Bush. SHe was the sister to my husband's great grandfather John W. Bush. Margaret married Thomas DeWalt, a railroad engineer sometime after 1880. They had one child, Pearl, who married Thomas Hood, who also worked on the railroad. Margaret was 72 and living with Pearl and her husband at the time of the 1930 census.

OK. I'll keep an eye open for David and Elizabeth, pre-1814. As I recall from the Crawford censuses, Abel-- or was it David?-- was born in Virginia. It would be interesting to know whether that was present-day W VA, the vicinity of Pittsburg,say-- or further east, the Shenendoah Valley, for instance.

Most of my Crawford Co. Dewalts are buried in Leesville cemetery, but there's one grave there that I can't account for-- Albert Dewalt, Jan 29, 1881- Apr 1, 1955. According to his obit, he came to the Crestline area around 1920. The 1930 census says he was PA born but his parents, William and Elizabeth, were born in OH. Do you know if Albert is connected to your line?

Robert,

Yes... I'm related to the David DeWalt/Elizabeth line who had Abel and Sarah. Abel married Lucinda Sparks and had Jacob Quinn who married Alice Hoover and had Clark Zenn (My Grand Father). Clark married Pearl Lina Graham who had my father Dale Graham.

I haven't been able to find a link to the other Dewalt line in Crawford either. I would think its too great of a coincidence that there would be two separate Dewalt families there.

I'll see if I can find anything on Adam and Sarah.

If you happen to find anything on David and Elizabeth prior to 1814, please let me know!

I'm familiar with the U.S. census on Adam and Sarah (Brown)Dewalt. Since my original posting I've discovered that A and S's son William was born in Franklin Co. PA (according to his Civ War pension file) in 1844; and Sarah herself "near Greencastle," Antrim Twp, Franklin Co. PA in 1818. She married Adam there in 1840-- the latter info from Sarah's obit, written in 1885 by son William.

Where things stand now: looking for A and S's ancestors in Franklin, Adams and York PA and perhps Washington Co. MD.
Any assitance in this regard-- from anyone-- would be appreciated.

Thanks again, David, for the "heads up"? Incidentally, are you connected to one of the other two Crawford Co. OH Dewalt clans? I haven't found any family relationship between them and wonder, perhaps, whether you have.

I found the 1850 and 1860 census that has some info you might like about Adam and Sarah Dewalt. The dates in the 1850 are similar to the 1870 census but the 1860 are off for Adam and Sarah by a lot. Must be a transcribe error.

Seeking info on Adam and Sarah (nee Brown) Dewalt. They and their son, William, were born in Pennsylvania but lived in Leesville, Crawford County OH from about 1860 to at least 1880 (William until the 1930s). I need the birth dates and places for all three and the death dates and burial places of Adam abd Sarah. Any help or hint would be appreciated. Thank you.

Your Roy DeWAlt/wife Carrie is son of James DeWalt born Dec. 02, 1862 and died DEc. 13, 1945. He was the brother of my Clara Emily Dewalt. she married Joseph Frank Montonye and later Walter Pride. Her daughter Sarah Ellen b. 10/09/1900 d. 8/20/1948 was my grand mother. her daughter Velma Louis Kincaid bond was my mother. My folks lived in Sparland when I was born (Preoria) When unlcle Scott Kincaid died, I tried to reach some of your family. they told me they would pass on my name.
I have James and Clara's parents as Anthony DeWalt b. Jan. 17, 1834 in Germay and wife Heneritta Shallcross/Schaulcroft born in Dronda Ireland. I ahve more details on each of them and familys on down. I'll ge glad to share with you.
Do you have farther back? I'm so excited.

I very well remember GRandma Pride, her sister Anna VanDusen, aunt Ellie Marshall, John DeWalt & ruth and their kids Marion, Arlen and Harold. I remember going to the DeWalt that lived where the road split and went up the hill towards the cemetary.

Unfortunately, I don't have much on the DeWalt but this Bible record:

But it does seem likely that your Henry line could easily be a son of some of them -- or a grandson

Have you located your Henry on any census -- 1850, 1860 that should give you his parents and siblings and then you could match.

Glad to see you are still active with the DeWalts. At least as of Feb. 2005. Your records may show we had several exchanges a few years ago. I am not very active these days but always keeping my eyes and ears open.

Now, your question on this query. Mrs S. V. Sloan was my Aunt, my fathers sister. She had many reunions in Parker, PA and I attended many of them over the years. Later they were in public parks like Grove City.

Aunt Nettie( Mrs S.V. Sloan was the originator of the "DeWalt Family History." This is the data that found it way into the LDS system, and is widely used by lots of people.

We are at our second home in Clarion Co. right now. When I get home, I will give you a call. That may be quicker than this, unless you check this message board more often than I do.

Could you look and see if Anthony Dewalt married Heneritta Schallcross Nov. 05, 1861? They are my ancestors. They lived in northern Illinois mostly Marshall -Putman Counties. he died FEb. 25, 1878. All I know is he was from Germany.
