Ferdinand and Emma married in Ontario in 1912. They had 5 children: (1) Gordon Oswald (1913-1940), (2) daughter (1914-1914), (3) Leonard Ainslie (1916-1916), (4) Ruby Eileen (1920-1975), and (5) Harold Ainslie (1924-2003). Ferdinand was an accountant in Ottawa. He died in Ottawa in 1938. Emma died in Ottawa in 1962. Harold was my step-father.

Do you know more about Ferdinand and his siblings? When and where did Paul and Mabel die? There was some indication that Paul died young like Ferdinand.

One more bit of info - about another George - Reedmaker
I evidently can't attach a .pdf - but will send it to anyone who is interested.

It has to do with a burial in Blackburn.

The grave of George Dewhurst. He died on the 14th August 1857 and his grave is a stone needLe on a
base. He was an inauguraL counciLLor and took a part in BLackburns first reform eLection of 1832 as
FugLeman of the Masses. He was apprenticed as a reedmaker and addressed an earLy meeting of
handLoom weavers in BurnLey which resuLted in him being charged th traitorous conspiracy and
sentenced to 2 years in Lancaster CastLe. His return found him stiLL addressing Large crowds th
fervour. `n 1851 he was a veteran reformer and eLected to the counciL. At the time of his death six
years Later, he was highLy regarded by most of his feLLow citizens. A fountain which is now under Darwen
Street bridge was erected by his friends in a waLL of the market house.
From a website "cottontown Blackburn with Darwen" on the "cemetery walk"

Forgot to say .. it is entirely possible that Miss Dewhurst's coachman was also a Dewhurst cousin in those times. Given the long time the family loved at 52 Queen Street, a further look at what other Dewhursts lived in the area and who the Mill Owners were makes sense. Oldfield is a *very* common surname for Dewhurst's to be commonly associated with over time, so it also makes sense that a George Dewhurst ran off with an Oldfield. The Fanning/Tuckfield Family Tree seems to offer the most genealogical info on Ancestry and seems to be widely copied, which may or may not be a good thing, but the source material seems pretty solid. I would suggest you look at geographical records to try to piece this together... I will likely post the ancestry info on the Dewhurst website since it seems to be well traced...

There is a 1914 Q2 death record that could be him, but it needs to be ordered.

What confuses me in this thread is it seemed to be believed George had run off with a Dewhurst girl ... all I can day is the genealogy of this man was well researched even if he disappeared!

It sounds as if George's father assumed the Dewhirst name. Do you know how the Olwyn Keir name comes into the picture? This may be traceable using census records beginning in 1861. Do you know if George still lived in Skipton? If so, we have charts on a large group posted here: http://homepages.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~jmbhome/dewhurst%20i...

The original was from a Mr.s Olwyn Keir.
I do not know how you would get in touch with her now - unless you try searching for her??

I have no information about the story.

Hi, We have a story in our family that George Dewhurst who was a coachman ran off with a lady who was disinherited. This is my G.Grandfather he was born in 1859. No one knows what happened to them he was not heard of again.
Have you been able to find out any more about this missing pair? might be the same pair then it might not but strange don't you think.

Regards

I think the Henry Dewhurst who married Catherine Mooney is a different Henry.
I have Henry Dewhurst b.25 Mar 1807 Ribchester d.23 Jan 1882 New York m.c,1829 Liverpool, Lancashire, England Catherine Mooney b.c. 1810 d.16 Mar 1858 New York.
Henry is the son of John Dewhurst and Amy Emma Fender
Henry and Catherine had 9 children between 1829 and 1852 all in Liverpool. This would be the same time as your Henry was having children with Isabella Sellers.
Can you tell me who Mary LnUnk is please - I guess it must have been a spelling error.
Thanks
David

Peggy Saw your messages on the Rootsweb Dewhurst site. I have access to the London 1891 census but to look for your Dobson family I need some dates and places of birth. You don't give any other information other than names. You must enter as much info on your people as you can like dates and places of birth and marriages. That way someone willing to help like myself will have some basic information to go on. Best regards Barbara

I know I began researching this last year, but hit a dead end. David Freeman also did some research.

Have you posted to the Dewhurst-L on Rootsweb?
Thank you Jana for all this Dewhurst info. I did go to the site but didn't find Louisa and Edward, nor did I find her parents which I have as William Farrington (Henry) Dewhurst and Anna Kent. I have now written to Robert by clicking on the email envelope at the top of the page.
My interest in the Dewhurst family began when I learned that Louisa Dewhurst married Edward Clarendon Dobson who had been previously married to Amanda Veldran. Amanda later married John T. Kelly who had been previously married to Alice Davis of Quebec, Canada.I have Louisa's marriage date but not her death date or whether she had children which I do not think she did.
Thanks again for the links
Peggy

First of all - to Dave - thank you for responding. I had no idea your Dad had passed. He and I have been corresponding about Dewhurst genealogy since the 90s. I feel so sad to hear about it, but am glad to know even at this late date. The good news is, he had me post his lines, and the contact info for Graeme is on that page.

Looks like I need to make up a deceased page as he is the second online researcher we have lost :(

The link to the website is here:
http://homepages.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~jmbhome/dewhurst%20j...

Bob also had his DNA recorded and that info is here:
http://homepages.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~jmbhome/1dewhurstDNA...
As you will see, Bob and Graeme are a perfect match!

Peggy, I am not quite sure how your family links into our Dewhursts, but, you might want to take a look at our Encyclopedia of known Dewhi/ursts here: http://homepages.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~jmbhome/dewhursta_f....

Links to the next pages of first names are at the bottom of each page in the Encyclopedia.

Hello,
I am still anxiously awaiting a reply from you regarding your greatgrandfather, Henry Clay Dobson. I know that Henry's mother was Amanda Veldran and she did marry John T. Kelly after divorcing Edward Dobson, but not for a long time. I am most anxious to know if Henry had a sister Anna as I see her on the 1920 living with him. Could be stepsister or half sister, I really don't know. What was your mother's date of birth and her sister Dot's date of birth? I really need some help with this family. I would love it if you could help me.
Peggy

Wow, I am so glad to hear from you. I have been batting my head against the wall trying to figure out this family. Maybe you can verify some things for me or give me some further information. Did Harry have a sister Anna as per the 1920 Elmhurst, Queens, Census? Or stepsister? According to the 1910 census, Amanda is the mother of 2 children and 2 are living. Wondering is second child is Anna? Was Amanda (Harry's mother) ever married to someone named Cook?
When did Amanda divorce Edward Dobson? Was Nelsy's birth name Florence or Florence Anna Chamberlain? Do you know Nelsy's parents' names? I am so glad to have a surname for Gladys. What was Jacqeline's date of birth and her sister Dot? Do you have much information on John T. Kelly, Harry's stepfather? Would you like to email me directly at peggyc2sky-at-yahoo.com? I am excitedly awaiting your reply

My greatgrandfather was the entertainer, Harry Kelly. He was born Henry Clay Dobson. He was the son of Edward Dobson. Apparently, Harry's mother married a man named John T. Kelly after having divorced Edward Dobson. Harry is buried in Southampton, NY next to his son, John Dobson (my grandfather). Harry's wife, Nelsy (nee Chamberlain), is there and so is my grandmother, Gladys (nee O'Connell). My mother was Jacqueline Roebuck (nee Dobson), John's daughter.

Hello,
I have today found the 1920 census for Maud Dobson, Edward Clarendon Dobson's third wife. Edward died in 1919. Maud is a widow and has 3 children - Edward C. Dobson born 1896, Maud P. Dobson born 1898 and Dorris Dobson, born 1915. So Edward's son Edward belongs to Maud if born 1896.

Steve,
I am trying to link into this tree. I am piecing things together that may or may not be 100% correct, it's hard relying on other people's work.
What appears to be the family for Abraham that married Mary Oxnard:
Father Thomas Dewhurst d. 1755 - Married Ann d.1758
Children
Isaac c. 1700 - m. Susannah Shackleton 1723
Thomas
Abraham - m. Mary Oxnard
William - m. Mary Shackelton
Rebecca?

The Isaac b. c. 1700 son Thomas is the grandfather of the Dewhurst Cotton John Bonny Dewhurst.
