Looking for information on Richard Dexter (b. c1606, Ireland, d. 1680 MA). Richard Dexter and family immigrated from County Meath to New England before 1644.
"Richard Dexter, ..., was born in England about 1606 and died in 1680 in Charlestown, (Mystic Side), Massachusetts. He was admitted a freeman February 28, 1641-2. He bought a farm at Malden, December 7, 1663, and resided there until 1667. From January, 1677-8, until his death, he lived with his daughter Elizabeth or Ann of Charlestown. He and his wife Bridget attended the Malden Church. He was constable of Charlestown, Mystic Side, in 1660. Richard Dexter came from the vicinity of the town of Slane, county Meath, Ireland, whence he and his wife Bridget had to flee to England on account of the great Irish massacre of Protestants which commenced October 27, 1641. They were in England but a short time, going from there to Boston, in New England. The family had been in Ireland some two hundred years or more. He was descended from Richard de Excester, the Lord Justice of Ireland. The children of Richard and Bridget Dexter were:
1. Alice, died about 1682; married, 1653, Benjamin Muzzy
2. Elizabeth, died October, 1693 ; married James Mellen, son of Richard Mellen, of Charlestown.
3. John, born 1639; died December 8, 1677, ...
4. Sarah, born November I, 1644, at Charlestown, married, July or August. 1666, Edward Pinson."

My questions:
1. What is the office 'Lord Justice of Ireland'? Was the Lord Justice position an English one, appointed by the King or Queen of England?
2. Who is Richard de Excester, the Lord Justice of Ireland? When did he live?
3. Who were Richard Dexter's parents?
4. Is the 'Dexter' family truly Irish?
- Thanks,
George
