thank you since posting that message I have joined ancestry and found his father and have been able to go farther back, I purchased the Deyo book and have Peter's lineage but because Daniel was older and already out of the household it wasn't listed and was much harder to trace; but I found his father was listed in his enlistment registry and went from there thank you again Karen

According to Ulster County marriage records, Leonard T White married Jennie Mae/May Moose april 14, 1923. She is the daughter of Peter & Hannah Moose, and is in 1920 census with her parents. Also in Kingston Freeman, which can be searched here on ancestry.
I just looked over your family tree. Please, if you're not sure of info, note it in your tree. No where I know of is it documented that Hiram Deyo and Rachel Coe are Old Nick's parents.
Also, some of us local families also know some of the hidden stories, and it is not fair to let the world know some of what we consider private information. Please be careful.

All that is correct, but then he disappears in records before 1850. I've been in touch with the Deyo genealogist and then have no record of him coming from the Deyo's that settled in New York. It's worth a shot looking at other Dryish from other areas.

There was a Hiram Deyo in Schoharie Co in 1830 and 1840 census, presumed to be father of Old Nick. Other family researchers, and the Deyo/Deyoe researchers in New Paltz, cannot ascertain any further information on Hiram or Old Nick.
There was a Herman Deyo in Shinglekill (Cairo) whose house burned down in early 1800's. It is possible this is Hiram mis-spelled, but that's conjecture on my part.

Mis-spellings often due to illiteracy and phonetic spellings, which was common; and accents &/or pronunciations; localized dialects; nicknames.

Hi,

This is my Nicholas and I've just found out from the Town Historian of Ulster County that records show he was born in Canada, not Gilboa, NY like I've been told. I haven't even began to look into the Canadian Deyos yet. This is a huge break for anyone who thought, like me, that he was from Gilboa!

HI, I actually have been asked about Nicholas before, so he must have been a popular guy! Or more likely difficult, as you say with records being destroyed. (same goes in Wisconsin/Peshtigo Fire/1871!..) Anyhow, have you been able to view the 1870 Census at all? If so, it does have him listed living in NY, Catskill area in 1870/born 1831 and being about 39 years of age? Others residing at this same address are:

* Catharine Deyo
33 yrs, Female

* Betsey Deyo
12 yrs, Female

* Amy Deyo
11 yrs, Female

* Newton Deyo
7 yrs, Male

* Nicholas Deyo
4 yrs, Male

* Eliza Deyo
3 yrs, Female
Not sure if this is the Nicholas you refer to, but in 1870 the census had him listed in it with the members pasted above! Do you have a William P Deyo or Deyoe 1801-1889. I am trying to figure out his children and also his parents. Plus, I he had two different spouses.

I know about walls!

Pat

Wow, that's great. To add to Amy Jane and Thomas White. They had three sons, Ira, Antonio and Leonard.

As for the listing of Ida, I really think she was also Amy's. I have records that show Ida as her daughter. Also Ida died in 1911 at 27.

I've asked my grandfather about Ida, but apparently they didn't speak of it back then. One of the mysteries that I'm trying to solve.

I would love to see the pictures. I've seen a picture of Amy, but never of anyone else. thanks again!

I can get no farther than Daniel T. Deyo and his wife Lucy Lee, they are buried in Stevens Point Cemetery in Harmony, Pa. He was born 1844 in the state of NY but I have no idea where. I believe he is one of the Deyos from Ulster county I find Daniel Deyo in this family and I have a deyo book, but there is not listing for him ,with out his parents its very hard to find records for him , he served in the union army in the Civil War. I have that information if you would like it and if you have anything on charles' family or his siblings it would be great. my great grandmother Harriet (Hattie) Marie (Deyo) Bosket was one of Daniel's ; I think 11 children . you can email me your self if you'd like its kgismojo@aol.com. I check my mail regularly look forward to hearing from you.

I apologize if I have offended you, as that is not my intention at all. I merely was commenting on the reference to the book you posted the link too, as it is wonderful and full of details! There are misspellings everywhere, and even in something as important as census taking/recording throughout history, there are many errors! I appreciate being able to have access to so much information,as it can make this entire process much more enriched. While it can be frustrating at times, trying to match information/people/accuracy/spelling/and/or other details... For me, I feel it is a blessing to have as much information as we do to gain knowledge from. If we had to make all things perfect---well, I don't believe we would have so much to access. I am not sure that I adjusted this as you asked, but I won't bother you for other questions. God Bless and thank you for your help. Pat

This book has so MUCH information! Wow, information overload here! I cannot imagine putting a book together like this! this person had to be a genius and organizing and gathering information, if in fact it is accurate, it is beyond --!

The connections I have are to the Deyo family, primarily, and am having difficulty with that even. The family was large and spread from NY, and originally from France into the midwest region of the U.S. Also, the LeFevre line, Adams, and some Belgium ancestry lines. Then from Germany, Werthmann, which is been nearly impossible. Thanks for the link! Pat

Hello! I have seen several times the name Nicholas come up, but not sure if he is in my tree at this time. If you want to send me an invite to your tree, and/or an email address we can perhaps share some info and help one another out if you are interested and/or have time to do so. With a few more details perhaps I could help you.

I hope to hear from you soon!

Pat

QUERY: Arabella Hallock (1815-1880) md Daniel A Deyo of Ulster/Orange Co, NY > Parents?

QUERY: Arabella Hallock (1815-1880) md Daniel A Deyo of Ulster/Orange Co, NY > Parents?

The History of Ulster County, New York, Vol 2, p 590-1, shows an Arabella Hallock married Daniel A Deyo (as his third wife) in 1836 and had 3 children: Thomas, Anna, Margaret md John Sillick. See p 591 here:

http://books.google.com/books?id=cXqFClC7ehkC&q=Beyo#v=o...

(note this link is to Hallocks. Find 19 references to Deyo by searching for Deyo within this book.)

This family and descendants are fairly well traceable through census records after 1850. A Reference to this Arabella or Daniel Deyo is not found in either the 1928 or 1992 Hallock Genealogies.

This reference does not give her parents. All web pages I have found for Daniel Deyo either don't show Arabella as a wife at all, or show Arabella Hallock without any parents - and no web page that I have found shows any documentation for him and his family, least of all a marriage record with Arabella or other documentation.

Can her identity as a Hallock be verified?
Who were her parents? Documentation?

Thanks for your support.

Hi there:

The misspellings and mis-identifications here are a problem. I'd really appreciate your correcting my headings that were auto-copied in the posts that you made. I guess my brain was frozen or it was late in the day. Link to editing your post is in the upper right corner of your post.

There are nineteen reference to Deyo in the Ulster family book. Thomas was one of three children Daniel A had with Arabella Hallock, and one of several more he had with two earlier wives - all shown in the link. Here it is again - although I'll change it to show Deyo search results rather than Hallock search results (search box is in the left panel):

http://books.google.com/books?id=cXqFClC7ehkC&q=Beyo#v=o...

Thanks

Thanks for the note and you are welcome.

It also caused me to review my post and see that I misspelled Deyo several times, plus called the man who married Arabella as Thomas (her son), rather than Daniel A!!

I've corrected those misspellings, thank you very much, but can you change the misspelling that carried over into your post? Just hit the "edit" link in the upper right of your post and you can change the wrong spelling to the name.

Thanks

Hi, No worries on mispellings, the people themselves and/or those who tracked the data and historical records of folks is not always accurate or consistent either. In fact, people at times back then, even chose to use abbreviated names and/or a different spelling of a name for themselves. I have a family member who I didn't realize her first name was Jeanette, as everyone called her Lois. In fact, she too was a Deyo or Deyoe and most of her siblings also went by a different first name. Clifford was Mike- now, how does one get Mike out of Clifford? So that is not a problem! I am trying to trace if Thomas is a sibling of one of my Deyo family members. Do you know if Thomas had siblings and if so what their names are? Also, who Thomas's parents are and birth dates. I have a gap in the early 1800's that I am trying to clear up. Thank you, Pat

Wolven Hollow is the name of the Hollow Old Nick Deyo lived at the foot of, on Manorville Road. Augustine Road leads up into Wolven Hollow. My guess is the Wolven's were Holland Dutch. There's a Cellar Hole up in that Hollow, that is known as the Louchie Wolven Place.

I'd have to dig it out, but, the Deyo's went to Earlton from Wolven Hollow. Jackass Hollow is named for them as well because of their hauling with jackasses.
Before Wolven Hollow, Old Nick had land in Kiskatom, I think behind Friar Tuck. He sold that and moved to Manorville.

A few years back, I'd occasionally talk to a Guy, who's name was Lenny White. He had the appearance of a Guy who came from the Good Ole Days. Back in the Good Ole Days, it was very common to change names so they were more American sounding. I used to talk to Violet Finger who's Maiden name was Augustine. She told Me the Old Timers were very closed mouthed about any name changes. Lenny White, lived in a neighborhood along with several other old timers whose last name was Curtis. Willie Curtis married Liza Deyo and Tommy White married Amy Deyo. Sonds like they're Cousins.

Thank you. I'll ask my grandpa, George White. I know that he remembers playing with his cousins, from Rose's children. He would tell me stories about how many there were. Thank you again.

I knew some of the relatives of Rose Deyo who were Her Children from Her marriage to Frank Augustine. One of Nicholas Deyo's Grandsons, who's name Harold was living in West Saugerties, back in the 40' and 50's. I'll do some asking try to find out if there are any relatives from the Nicholas Deyo Family that might be living in this area.
