The following could be a valuable link to what you are looking for - but it will need to be developed. I have been looking at ROBERT DEZELL of Kitley for some time, as he has not seemed to be linked in an obvious way to other DEZELLs nearby (i.e. Ramsay Twp. Lanark County, about whom I know quite a bit.) If you go to
http://www.yclc.ca/indexzp.html you will see Robt. DEZELL living one lot south of G. COAD (a relative of mine.) since Robt. was from Armagh and George Coad was from Wicklow, there does not seem to be an obvious connection between them,at first look, but I suspect otherwise.GEORGE COAD is said to have come to Canada in 1820 and to have accunulated a considerable acreage in Kitley, then returned to Ireland (Wicklow) to collect family members. On his return in 1831-32, it is said he met shipmates who were willing to take some of the land off his hands - including the FORBES family and the PURCELL family.
I wonder if you have a family tree for ROBERT DEZELL of Kitley, so we can see if there were intermarriages? Certainly there were intermarriages among GEORGE COAD's descendants and the M'Creery's of Ramsay - who appear to have come over with the early DEZELL families about 1823.
Two Dezell (Dalzell) families had come to Ramsay Twp.from Armagh in the period between 1823 and 1837, and the path of emigration at the time often led through Kitley. In 1837, JAMES DEZELL held Ramsay Twp. Con. 2 Lot 4E.
His son, JAMES DEZELL b. 1823 in Canada married MARGARET McCREERY, suggesting that he arrived in 1823. Another son, WILLIAM DEZELL, b.c. 1814 marrried a wife from the U.S. and lived there until the 1840's when he returned to the area, settling in Montague Twp. (near Kitley ), marrying MARY JANE CONDIE.
THOMAS DEZELL and his wife MARGARET b.c. 1775 held Ramsay Twp. Con. 3 Lot 3 W and had at least five children and perhaps two more, about whom a great deal is known and of whom pictures exist.
JAMES DEZELL's family appear to have emigrated with the M'Creery's from Armagh, but there were only three M'Creey families among the flaxgrowers list there in 1796 (see:
http://www.failteromhat.com/flax/armagh.htm )
JAMES M'CREERY of Loughgilly
MARY m'CREERY of Mullaghbrack and
SAMUEL M'CREERY of Derrynoose
Loughgilly and Mullaghbrack were some 7 miles to the east of Derrynoose, Tynan and Keady, which were contiguous with each other, so they may or may not have been closely related.
From the Flaxgrowers list of 1796 we have:
SAMUEL DALZELL at Tynan
ALLEN DALZELL at Tynan
JOHN DALZELL at Tynan
THOMAS DALZELL at Mullaghbrack
Keep in mind that this was almost thirty years before the first emigration, so the names on the Flaxgrowers list were probably the parents of the emigrant families we are talking about.
THOMAS DEZELL's family JAMES, JOHN, THOMAS ELIZA and JANE, married "heavily" into a MAGEE family, who were related, without doubt,to the M'Creery's (see
http://www.yclc.ca/indexz.html )It seems at least somewhat likely that this MAGEE family came from Armagh with the BOYD family and STEPHENSON or STEVENSON and HAMMOND family(of Keady)starting in 1820.
1796 Flaxgrower BOYDs
Boyd Andrew Loughgilly
Boyd David Loughgilly
Boyd James Tynan
Boyd John Loughgilly
Boyd Moses Loughgilly
Boyd Robert Armagh
Boyd William Loughgilly
Boyd William Tynan
1796 Flaxgrower HAMMONDs
Hammond Robert Derrynoose
1796 Flaxgrower MAGEEs
Magee Bernard Armagh
Magee Catherine Armagh
Magee Edward Armagh
Magee Henry Tynan
Magee James Armagh
Magee John Armagh
Magee John Keady
Magee John Tynan
Magee Thomas Armagh
The MAGEE Christian names we would be looking for, however, were WILLIAM and GEORGE, so perhaps the MAGEEs were NOT from Armagh. But they did arrive in Canada at the same time, and did marry into the DALZELL Family rather heavily (I can supply details.)

There's a lot of information here, and whether it all comes together in some way and makes sense is not clear to me at this time. It leaves the door open to how the different DALZELL families were related, if at all. But, my hunch is that they WERE all related and probably closely. I have more information, but it would probably confuse the matter , and if you are interested, you can always contact me offline. I'm Brian Bailey at
