Hi Toni -- I would be happy to try and help you. I need to look at the family tree and see where you might fit it.

Dibernardo is part of my husband's family. However, this branch was not from Avigliano .... but from San Martino en Pensilis.
My husband's maternal grandfather was Leo DiBernardo married to Emily Sposta. They lived in Port Chester, New York. I believe they had Sposta cousins who lived in Greenwich, CT. The Sposta family was from Avigliano.

Please tell me a little more about Angelo DiBernardo.... his family/parents and where he lived in America. Not sure I know who Rose Ann is. Looking forward to hearing from you.

I just found this old message string. I am Jennie's & Angelo's Grandaughter. They had 3 children Marie, Roseanne & Frank. They have 12 grandchildren and I don't have a count on the great grand children but they include identical triplets, and they now have I think 3 great-great grandchildren. The restaurant was sold when I was a teen. It's a vfw post now. I have a lot of information on my Grandmother but not too much on my grandfather so I would love to hear from you.

Kristen, Hi. My name is Laura DiBernardo, and I'm fairly certain there is a relation. My grandfather is Andrew DiBernardo, from Port Chester, married to Lee Bascetta DiBernardo. Father is Leon DiBernardo (b. 1950), grew up in Uniondale, NY.
Andrew is the only remaining sibling, now residing in Albuquerque, NM. I'm certain (remembering all the stories) that these names listed below were his siblings.
I'd love to chat, either here or off line. Here is my email address: lolareddeg@hotmail.com.

Take care,

Laura DiBernardo-Reddeg
San Diego, CA.

As I said before, I have many printed birth and marriage records from Avigliano, Italy for the Sposta/Esposito family. It was Kirsten Coppock who told me about the name Esposito. I will re-starting my family research this week to see how far back I can go. Susan

My dad's father Joseph Sposta & brother Angelo were born in USA not Italy. Their father, I think Andrea was born in Italy, my dad mentioned. My dad had a cousin named Vinnie Esposito who passed away about a year ago. He lived in Portchster for many yrs then moved to Byram.

I also have documented the records through microfilms borrowed from the Mormons. At this point, I don't think the two families are related. Susan

Hi - my husband, Vince, is the grandson of Emily Sposta DiBernardo. I have been researching the town of Avigliano, Italy where the Sposta's originated. And yes, the name was Esposito. Where it was changed I don't know. But there were three families (brothers) who came to Port Chester.
The census takers really messed up their names in 1900 - I read through the census to find them -- two of them living in the same building. The name Esposito indicates that someone in the line was an illegitimate child. If you'd like more information contact me at swilliams1200@comcast.net I am collecting the church records and have traced the family back to the original Esposito -- would be happy to share by inviting you to my tree on ancestry.com Looking forward to hearing from you. Joseph, Angelo, Emily, Anna, and Josephine were all siblings. I do remember Great- Aunt Emily making the best home made pizza ever. My grandparents, Joseph and Katerine Sposta lived in Greenwich . We were all close to Rachel, Virginia, Kate& Florie. Sal also played the accordian.
Is Lina his wife still in Rye Brook?
S. Sposta

Hi Kirsten, I'm back again and still researching. I did find some interesting information. You had mentioned a James Sposta thinking he was one of the children of Andrea Sposta and Catherine Colangelo. However, I did find James Sposta in the Port Chester, NY census -- his parents were Anthony Sposta and Mammie. He was the only child mentioned in that particular record -- will have to look it up again to give you the year.
I searched in both the San Martino and the Avigliano records for Sposta/Esposito but found nothing.

However, Andy DiBernardo, brother of Rachel, Virginia, etc.
told me that the family would visit an Esposito family in Port Chester several times a year. I am in the process of following up on that lead. So far no town of origin.
But I did find a SS record for Angelo Esposito b. 1887 - he was also naturalized so I am trying to see if I can get his naturalization papers to find the town of origin. Will keep you posted. Susan

Hi Susan. I just replied to your message on the Genevese forum, and I now see that we are definately connected. I remember meeting Rachel and Virginia years ago. My grandmother, their niece, took me with her to one of their homes in Connecticut. I'm also trying to figure out where the Spostas originated. Mary and Emily's mother is buried in Italy, and that site might be a good place to start researching. The problem is that I don't know where the grave is located, although I do have a photograph of it. If you think this might help, I'll send you a copy of the photo. That's the best lead I've got. : ) If you'd like to compare notes privately, please e-mail me at kristenakcoppock@yahoo.com.
Kristen

I'm so excited to hear from you. My name is Toni DiBernardo and I'm from New Castle, Pennsylvania. I have extensive DiBernardo family History. Do you know where this part of the DiBernardo's came from? My grandfather Annibale Giovanni DiBernardo came from Camigliano, Caserta, Itay. The surname Sposta is also from this village. You mentioned Port Henry, NY. My grandfather had a first cousin named Angelo DiBernardo who was first married to a Mabel Carusone...but the family when they came to America changed this last name from Carusone to Ross. Mable had died during child birth back in the 20's I believe it was. Then he married a Jennie Esposito who just passed away this September 25th in Albany,NY...she was 90. Now my grandfather's side also has twins all through this family. Does any of this sound familiar?

This DiBernardo family all started out in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania before spreading out throughout the country into NY, still in Pittsburgh and surrounding areas. Also in this family are the surnames of D'Onofrio, Palandra, Cenname. I noticed you also have listed the surname of Rocco. They are also from Camigliano. The Rocco family has a Monsignor in it his name was Carmine Rocco. If interested I can send you in PDF File all that I have on this family. I got all my information through The Morman Church so I have everything documented and sourced. Looking at the the name Leon and I'm thinking mabe changed to be more Americanized. Alos this Angelo DiBernardo and his wife owned a dinner in Granville,NY called the Granville Dinner. I was told that this was still family owned but I have no idea by whom. I have alot of old pics that I would also be willing to share along with all the info I have. I hope that there is a connection here...with this surnames I'm thinking there is. Looking forward to hearing from you. Toni DiBernardo

If you think there's a connection, we should definately talk. Public or private, either is OK with me. I can be reached at k10tiger@hotmail.com. My grandmother was Emily DiBernardo's niece and was particulary close to the twins for most of their lives. I remember her taking us grandkids to Conn. to visit one of them at some point during the 80s. Emily's sister was Mary/Maria Sposta whose married name was Genovese.

I'm looking for descendents of Emily (Sposta) and Leon DiBernardo. (Emily was also known as "Carmela") Emily was the sister of my great-grandmother, and their children were close. We've lost touch with that branch of the family, so I'm looking to say "hi" and share some information.

Emily (b.1894/d.1976) and Leon (b.1882/d.1965)lived in Port Chester, N.Y., but some of their children settled in Connecticut. Their children were: Salvatore (b.1913/d.1997, married Arline La Rocco in 1938), Florence (b.circa 1915), Catherine (b.circa 1917), twins Virginia and Rachel (b.circa 1918), and Andrew (b.circa 1924).

I look forward to hearing from anyone!

The first thing you want to do is get their Naturalization paperwork at the Achives in Philadelphia on Market Street. They will tell you where in Italy they are from. Also get Alien Registration paperwork and contact Railroad Retirement Board because more than likely they worked for the railroad companies. Contact me and I can go in more detail.

Andrew DiBernardo

Looking for relatives of my great-grandfather, Andrew DiBernardo. He was born in Italy and still has a sister alive there that is a nun. My grandma isnt sure where in Italy she is. He came to Netcong NJ (NJ's little Italy) as a teenager. He was 94 when he died in 1991. He married Rita Costanza who was also born in Italy, and came to Netcong as a child. Their children turned DiBernardo to DiBernard, but the parents kept DiBernardo. They had 9 children, Pauline, Donald, Carmine, Anthony, William, Louis, Margaret, Loretta, and Genevieve, 7 of which are surviving. Andrew had a brother and 2 sisters. Aniello, his brother came to Netcong as an adult and died last year at 91. Genevieve died in Italy as a child, and the nun is still in Italy. I dont know her name. Any info would be apreciated.
