Hi,
I found a paper about the Dial family (GA/AL/AR/SC) on a film about the Crawford family (LDS). It is about 40-50 pages and includes Isaac Dial and Colville Dial and many Dials in GA, AL, AR and SC. It includes the Martin Dial family of Jefferson Co., Arkansas and others. It is by Hastings Harrison. His mother was Savannah Elizabeth Dial, daughter of Rev. Isaac James Hastings Dial and Mary Jane Carder. Isaac died in the Civil War. His mother married Andrew Henderson Pickens in 1866.

I am new to ancestry, and this is my first attempt to search and organize my family tree. I know very little concerning my Dial lineage.
My grandfather was Khlon Dial married to Maxine Mildred Johnson, his father was George Washington Dial married to Dora Mason, and i believe his dad was James Newton Dial married to Alice Arnold,then im thinking his dad is John Arnold Dial married to Lucinda Shell.
Any info or pictures will be a great treasure to me.
I will share pics. I have two of Klon Dial with Mildred Johnson, and one with Mildred maxine Johnson with her dad Lenoard Johnson. I also have a picture of Dora Mason taken in 1982 when she was 91. (will scan soon)

I am brand new at this. Just stumbled onto the site today. Looks very interesting. I wonder if anybody has information about the Dial family in West Virginia, specifically in Branchland, Hamlin, and the Huntington area. My father's name was Fred William Dial, deceased 1990. His father's name was James Burgess Dial who died about 1960. His wife's maiden name was Carrie Shrewsberry. My dad had six brothers and sisters, all but one dead. I am seeking any information available on Keziah Dial born 1760, died 1820; she is belived to be full Cherokee Indian or possibly Lumbee. She was married to James Ashworth, he was belived to be half Choktaw. They had 15 children, born in Craven County South Carolina. I would like to know who her parents were and where she came from. Keowee Indian Villiage was mentioned in a story we received but I'm not sure about this.

I'm researching my family's history and I need some assistance about the Dial name.My gggrandmother's first name was Dial and according to oral history she was a full-blooded native american.She was born in Tennessee 1840-1849,her parents according to the 1900 census were from North Carolina.She married George Patrick in Rusk county,Texas.I would like to know can a surname be use as a first name such as Dial.I've researched the name Dial on ancestry.com and found it very unique for a person of african-descent.If someone can assist me I would really appreciate it very much.Thank you!

Today, in the 1880 US Census, I found a John C. Dial who was born in Tennessee about 1829. His father (name unknown) was from North Carolina. Mother (unknown) was from TN.
John C. Dial would marry Mariam Adelaide ________ (b. abt. 1848) in 1872. They would have children Lula, Thomas, Opal, and Anna F., who was my gggrandmother.
He must have been married before and had children with his first wife: Cora E., Edwin, Lena L. and John M.
Any information would be GREATLY appreciated!

I am trying to find information Larkin Dial. He was born March 2, 1772 in Virginia and died November 13, 1865 in Il. He married "Elizabeth," who was born September 5, 1788 in S.C. and died October 17, 1855 in Il. My grandmother thought that Larkin was a descendant of a William Dial who came over to the US from Ireland in 1772, he was married to a "Margaret." The dates do not match up because Larkin was supposedly born in March of 1772 and the ship, "Lord Dunluce' that William Dial came over on didn't arrive until December 1772. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Just seeing if anyone has anything on Mildred Dial b. abt 1810 TN. I found a Wm Dial in the 1850 census Gibson Co., TN - age 79. A strong candidate for the father?

Mildred's story:
Marriage #1: James J. Sammons - Milly Dial 3 Apr 1828.
Marriage #2: Mrs. Milley Sammons - John Darnald (Darnell) 29 Apr 1843. (Both marriages in Gibson Co., TN).
She had children from both marriages.
1850 - Gibson Co., TN/then, 1860-1870-1880 living in Obion Co., TN.
Daughter Nanny Sammons (1842-1916) was my gr-gr grandmother.

I am trying to research my Grandmothers siblings and am drawing a blank.. Her is what I have heard. My Aunt Mattie married Ben Dial. They lived in Texas (Dallas, Lakeview, Brownvile or somewhere?). They had five children, Joy, Sally, Weldon (TEX), Murray and Billy. Billy was handicapped and stayed with Aunt Carrie (Matties sister). There's a family story about people confusing Tex and my Uncle Lloyd. They said that Joy was doing a family tree years ago. But I've not been able to find it. On the Family Search website there is an "Individual Record" that shows that AUGUSTUS DIAL was christened on 07 Nov 1826 at Saint Michael, Barbados, Caribbean and that his mother was ELIZABETH DIAL.

Does anyone know how this connects to AUGUSTUS ADDISON DIAL who was born in 1845 in Minden, LA? His parents were JAMES LAURENS DIAL and MARIE LOUISA MADDEN.

In a book which traces the genealogy of my
family, the earliest ancestor mentioned is a
James Doyley (sp?) of County Carlow, Ireland.
Apparently, when his grandson moved to England
in the 1700's, the spelling was changed to
Dial. Has anyone else heard that our surname
was originally Doyle? Incidentally, I visited
County Carlow recently, and it's beautiful-
and full of Doyles!

I am currently researching two Louisa Dials.
One born abt 1841 the daughter of Isaac & Catharine Dial the other born abt 1845 the daughter of John and Martha Dial.

WHICH Louisa was the mother of George Dial born in 1863?

WHICH Louisa Dial married Philip Huber 25 January 1866 in St. Clair County Illinois? Philip Huber died abt 1876 and left his wife and 3 children: Louis, Anna and Ida. Did Louisa then marry Nicholas Thomas on 22 Feb 1877 in St. Clair County? In the obituary of Louis there is mention of his brother George Dial. In George's obituary, his half sister Annie Butler is mentioned. This would lead me to believe that George was this Louisa's son.

WHICH Louisa Dial married John W. Hesker on 23 June 1864?
John died in 1878 and his obituary states he left a wife and 3 children.
I then find that a MRS LOUISA HESKER married Moses A. Brown on 4 April 1883 in Perry County, Ill. Was she the widow of John?

Before I can go further on the line I am researching(that of Louisa Dial and Philip Huber)I need to know for certain who Louisa's parents were (either Isaac & Catherine Dial or John & Martha Dial).

I really would appreciate some help on this one. Thanks!

I am trying to find Moses Dial(Diehl), he was born in Ohio about 1864, probably lived in either Holmes or Wayne County. In 1910 he is living with his son-in-law and daughter, George & Frances Hall, and one of Moses' sons in Crawford County, Pa., and he is divorced. I can't find him after that. The son-in-law and daughter moved back to Ohio before 1920.
I also don't know who his parents are.

I am searching for his parents and siblings. He served in the Civil War. He was married to Rachel Rebecca Dial born in 1840 in Danville, Ohio. Her parents were William Dial and Rebecca Arnold. William Harvey Houck and Rachel had 9 children. In her later years Rachel lived with her daughter Sarah Benedict in College Township, Knox County, Ohio.

Searching for parents of Larkin Dial, b. 12 March 1779 in VA, d. 9 November 1865 in St. Clair Co, IL. Some sources give birth year as 1772, however census records indicate more likely 1779. Wife was Elizabeth, b. 25 Sept 1786 in NC, died 17 Oct 1853 St. Clair Co IL.
Does anyone out there have Elizabeth's maiden name?
Their son Isaac had a daughter Louisa who is said to have married Phillip Huber in 1866. Is this correct?

I have all the names you have mentioned but the dates are all wrong. as long as I can remember my father has told me that we are of the Indian heritage so to be sure I have talked to all my relative and they have confirmed it. my Isabella was b 1742 and I have several John's 1John 1701 2John1807 3john 1819.

I am sure I found what you are looking for.Hasting Dial had a son named James Dial he married Elizabeth Stalworth and her brother married Mary Dial and his name was Joseph Stalworth they moved to Abbeville County,South Carolina .He died in 1796. hope this helps.

Diel/Dial - Jefferson Co. IL - hasting asbury

I am a descendent of Hasting Asbury Diel. He is listed in the 1860 census has H.A. Dial. Our family pronounces Diel and Dial the same. My ancestors were illiterate for a few generations, so my best guess is that Diel is a made up spelling by someone who learned to read and write.

I have found a few Asbury's listed in Dial research and find that interesting.

The only things I really know about ol' H.A. is what is listed in the census. I have his wife's name - Jemima Rosander Kimbrough if i remember correctly.

Does anyone else have any info? I have enjoyed learning all this new info in the last 2 years. I never even knew we were scottish! (just assumed it was german like the rest of the neighborhood.) :)

Hi, Im searching for any info on a william c chavis that was living in Lucile, early co, GA in 1910 and 1920. The census lists that he and his wife Ava (avian) were both born in NC. I also found them in 1880 in burnt swamp township Robeson co NC living beside a henry chavis and family. In 1910 they had three children living with them, Ruby Diel (dial), Jimpsey, and Peter all listed as living with grandparents.
Ruby is my grandmother, in the 1920 census she and husband early Ussery were living next to wm and Avilan with Jempsey and Peter Dyle listed still as grandsons. This family is listed as Indian in Race.
The only other thing I have found on this connection is that in 1930 Early and ruby were listed as living in GA but had a son, Albert, born in Robeson county NC
I was given up for adoption, this is my bio family and my parents are both now dead. I would love to find what I can

My Great Grandmother Mary R. Dial was born in Macoupin County, Illinois 17 December 1865. I just received her marriage return that lists her father as Ashford Dial & mother as Susan Arnold. Mary married Samuel Dove, in Christian County, Assumption, Illinois on 23 Nov 1881, she is age 16 on the liscense age 17 on the return. Which should make her present in 1870 census. I know due to the obits of Ashford W. Dial that he was not her father so that only leaves the Ashford that married a Mrs. Susan Sharp on 29 Nov, 1862 in Macoupin County, Illinois. I believe that this was a second marriage for Ashford & for sure Susan. Does anyone have any additional information on this line of Dial's? I found two Ashford's for in the 1870 census but Mary nor Susan is present, have hit a road block appreciate suggestions or information. I also haven't been able to locate a birth registration for her. My birth information came from other relatives.

Am willing to share the obits via email for anyone interested in them FREE. I have the ones for Ashford W. Dial his second wife Mary J. Ward Lamont Dial, Ashford W.'s daughter Jennie Dial Curtiss, Jennie's husband Frank, and a notice for Thomas Dial.

I recently took pictures at the abandoned Whitaker Meeting House Church Cemetery in Davie Co., NC. As you can tell by the photo, the stones are barely readable. I was able to match some stones with information contained in a reference book for cemeteries in Davie Co., NC Other than what is given below, I have no information.

William Harvey "Bill" Dial was 1/2 brother to James & Frances Elizabeth Waddell. She married William Johnson Fanning 1870-1875. I don't know her mother and father's names other than Waddell. Frances was my ggg-grandmother. I do know that "Uncle Bill" owned a a big ranch and a brewery in Alvarado, Tx. My g-grandmother said she watched the barrells go up 50 ft in the air when a fire almost destroyed the brewery. I'm stuck!! I need any info on this family that I can get. Thanks!!!

Dial – Sherman, Tex., Jan. 8 – Mrs. Amanda F. Dial died Jan. 5, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. P. D. Hollingsworth, 206 West Mulberry street. Mrs. Dial was born in Alabama, but moved with her parents to Mississippi when quite young, and later to Louisiana, where she was married, and came to Marshall, Tex., as a bride in 1847. Thus she was one of the pioneer settlers of the State.

I believe that William was born in Texas Circa 1863 and I know that Ellen was born in Mhow India in 1864. When/Where and How they met I do not know.

I have found information that suggests that he was an Attorney from Los Angeles ????

I know that they had at least two children ... Yvonne Iris who married a DINEEN ... and possibly a son ... not sure of name maybe Ivan ???

She was born Dec. 8, 1911, in Leola to Charles and Florida Applegate.

Dial was a retired cook and a member of Trinity Baptist Church in Benton.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Gene and Billie Dial of Bryant; and one granddaughter, Gina Foree and husband Donald of Jacksonville.

Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Leola Cemetery in Leola, with the Rev. Clyde Chenault officiating.

Visitation will be from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Ashby Funeral Home.

Doc Washington Dial's Civil War Record

Doc Washington Dial (b. 2/28/1820, Madison Co., GA, d. 3/12/1886, Newnan, GA) is one of my maternal ggggrandfathers. I have received his Civil War record from the National Archives. He enlisted as a private in Company H, 66th Georgia Infantry Regiment on 9/15/1863 at Decatur, Georgia. There are only a few muster cards in his record but the last one shows he was present with the unit in August 1864 and had been promoted to Sergeant. From what I know about the 66th Georgia Infantry, the unit was formed in the summer of 1863 made up of mainly draftees and participated in the defense of Atlanta, battles in Tennessee, and ended the war in North Carolina. The unit gained the nickname "Bloody 66th" due to the heavy amount of casualties it sustained during the war.

Thanks for helping me fill in some details. Jacob's younger brother, Thomas Herman, was my husband's grandfather. My father-in-law, Oral Potts, recently became interested in genealogy and has received a flurry of information re. the Potts of that generation. (He may have gotten it from you....) He also received several pictures that have helped to "fatten" our records!! Anyway, I appreciate your response to my query. I do have quite a bit on the Potts and Dial families. However, I still have some confusion re. the parentage of Martha Elizabeth Dial. If you find out any more re. "Mattie," please keep me in the loop. I would appreciate it.
