Are you related to Thomas Dias/Dyas of Westmoreland Co., VA?
I have many, many land transactions of this Thomas Dias who think might be related to my George SOUTH. The one I found the most interesting was the following because it gives his wives 1st name as Michall:

!2 June 1669. Thomas Dyas and Michall his wife appoint our trustie and welbeloved friends Mr. John Wheston our attornie to acknowledge unto John Quiglye two tracts, 1300 acres lying upon the branches of Nomeny River; the one third part of 1050 acres in partnershipp betweene Mr. John Wheston and Mr. Patrick Spence upon the branches of Rappak. River bounding upon 1200 acres belonging to Lt. John Washington, Mr. David Norry and Mr. Patrick Spence. Signed by Thomas Dyas and Michall Dias. 19 9br [Nov.] 1669. Recorded

I was never able to find anything else about Michall (wife of Thomas DYAS), except I've seen where others have a Thomas Dias/Dyas (abt 1750-1779)married to a Michall 1st or last name who had at least 3 sons: (1)Thomas (1775-1837, md Elizabeth Dillon, had son Richard-1815 to 1870, md Susan Mardis); (2) Richard (abt 1770 York Co., PA-had at least 3 sons, son Andrew b. 1803 PA); (3)Joseph.

I don't know if these researchers have any proof that their Thomas DYAS was married to Michall or if they mistakenly confused the wife of the earlier Thomas DIAS with their later Thomas DIAS.

What is your Thomas DIAS connection?

Sincerely,
April Kyle BLADH

I still haven't found the connection between Thomas Dias/Dyas and my ancestor George SOUTH. Land gifts usually mean a close connection, but I never found Thomas Dias/Dyas' will to see if there was a connection.

Do you have any additional information or a copy of the Thomas Dias/Dyas' will?

Sincerely,
April Kyle Bladh

I would love to share information with you. I'm currently trying to find information on a W. L. Dyas who was once a pastor at Asbury United Methodist Church in the 1920's. He went on to help found and pastor two additional UMC churches near the shreveport area.

DIAS, RALPH ELLIS -- Congressional Medal of Honor Recipient VIETNAM

DIAS, RALPH E.

Rank and organization: Private First Class, U.S. Marine Corps, 3d Platoon, Company D, 1st Battalion, 7th Marines, 1st Marine Division (Rein) FMF. Place and date: Que Son Mountains, Republic of Vietnam, 12 November 1969. Entered service at: Pittsburgh, Pa. Born: 15 July 1950, Shelocta, Indiana County, Pa. Citation: As a member of a reaction force which was pinned down by enemy fire while assisting a platoon in the same circumstance, Pfc. Dias, observing that both units were sustaining casualties, initiated an aggressive assault against an enemy machine gun bunker which was the principal source of hostile fire. Severely wounded by enemy snipers while charging across the open area, he pulled himself to the shelter of a nearby rock. Braving enemy fire for a second time, Pfc. Dias was again wounded. Unable to walk, he crawled 15 meters to the protection of a rock located near his objective and, repeatedly exposing himself to intense hostile fire, unsuccessfully threw several hand grenades at the machine gun emplacement. Still determined to destroy the emplacement, Pfc. Dias again moved into the open and was wounded a third time by sniper fire. As he threw a last grenade which destroyed the enemy position, he was mortally wounded by another enemy round. Pfc. Dias' indomitable courage, dynamic initiative, and selfless devotion to duty upheld the highest traditions of the Marine Corps and the U.S. Naval Service. He gallantly gave his life in the service to his country.

Source: http://www.army.mil/cmh-pg/moh1.htm

BURIAL INFORMATION

Location: Ohio
Cemetery:

Born:

Died:

Source, additional information and cemetery monument photo:

http://www.homeofheroes.com/gravesites/states/pages_af/dias_...

Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ralph_E._Dias

Note: This is not my ancestry.
My grandfather's name was Vick (Victor) Dias (Dies) and he died on December 25, 1985. He was married to Ellen Bosio (she died in 2001) and they had 7 children... Margaret (Sissy), Edward (Eddie), Joseph (Joe), Marie, Barbara, Dayton, and Dennis. Not sure if that is in the exact order or not. My mother is Barbara.

I remember a story being told about them living in Pennsylvania and that Ellen (my grandmother) was walking a cow or something.
Hello.

The Dias name appears in two of my family lines. In one case it is found with the name Raposa, and in another case it is found as a last name for my great grandmother. Both these family lines are from Sao Miguel, the Acores.

My great grandmothers name is Maria Adelina Dias and she may have been born in 1865. She married Francisco Dias Raposa/Raposo. I do not believe that either of my great grandparents lived outside of the Acores.

They had several children including one named Francisco Dias Raposa.

Any help with these family lines are welcome. I do know a few other things that I could share.

Dias - Brum(?)

I have hit a big brick wall. There are so many Dias's which all have the same first names it makes my researching pretty difficult. I have learned through my grandmother and her sister that first names are very common through most all families from the Azores (Francisco, Antonio, Maria, Joe, and Manuel for example). At least for me this seems to be true. So, here I go, maybe someone out there can help me fill in the blanks. My grandmother and her sister are pretty up in the ages so they don't remember as much as they used to. Any help, knowledge or anything is very much appreciated.

Manuel J. Dias (b.? Azores d.?) married Mary (Maria) Brum(?) (b.? Azores d.?)

Manuel and Mary had seven children:

1). Mary Ceo (Maria do Ceu) Dias (b. 1894 Madalena, Pico, 2). Azoes - d. 1983 Califonia)
3). Antonio Dias
4). Joe Dias
5). Francisco Dias
6). Manuel Dias
7). Adelena Dias
8). Victoria Dias.

Everybody after Mary Dias I know (she was my great grandmother) but anyone before her I don't know and neither does my grandmother or her sister.

They did tell me that Frank sent for Mary after he settled in California and that she came from the Azores to California through New Bedford. I also know that Victoria stayed in the Azores.

Thank you for reading.

looking for the dias family that moved from faial(pria do almoxarife) to california

I am trying to find my lost family in the california area. My G. grandfather(Antonio Pereira Dias)went to California to find work. He evetually came back to his home country(Faial, Acores Portugal), but his brothers(Manuel Pereira Dias, Jose Pereira Dias, and Francisco Pereira Dias) remained in California(maybe Oakland area? I'm not sure). I know that Jose had at least 2 children(Jose JR. and another I believe to be named Melvino Pereira Dias. Their were also 3 other siblings my g grandfather came back to that resided in the villiage of "Pria do Almoxarife": Joao P Dias, Joaquim P Dias, and Maria P Dias. If any of these people or places ring a bell...well, you know what to do!
