Dias - Brum(?)

I have hit a big brick wall. There are so many Dias's which all have the same first names it makes my researching pretty difficult. I have learned through my grandmother and her sister that first names are very common through most all families from the Azores (Francisco, Antonio, Maria, Joe, and Manuel for example). At least for me this seems to be true. So, here I go, maybe someone out there can help me fill in the blanks. My grandmother and her sister are pretty up in the ages so they don't remember as much as they used to. Any help, knowledge or anything is very much appreciated.

Manuel J. Dias (b.? Azores d.?) married Mary (Maria) Brum(?) (b.? Azores d.?)

Manuel and Mary had seven children:

1). Mary Ceo (Maria do Ceu) Dias (b. 1894 Madalena, Pico, 2). Azoes - d. 1983 Califonia)
3). Antonio Dias
4). Joe Dias
5). Francisco Dias
6). Manuel Dias
7). Adelena Dias
8). Victoria Dias.

Everybody after Mary Dias I know (she was my great grandmother) but anyone before her I don't know and neither does my grandmother or her sister.

They did tell me that Frank sent for Mary after he settled in California and that she came from the Azores to California through New Bedford. I also know that Victoria stayed in the Azores.

Thank you for reading.

DIAS, RALPH ELLIS -- Congressional Medal of Honor Recipient VIETNAM

DIAS, RALPH E.

Rank and organization: Private First Class, U.S. Marine Corps, 3d Platoon, Company D, 1st Battalion, 7th Marines, 1st Marine Division (Rein) FMF. Place and date: Que Son Mountains, Republic of Vietnam, 12 November 1969. Entered service at: Pittsburgh, Pa. Born: 15 July 1950, Shelocta, Indiana County, Pa. Citation: As a member of a reaction force which was pinned down by enemy fire while assisting a platoon in the same circumstance, Pfc. Dias, observing that both units were sustaining casualties, initiated an aggressive assault against an enemy machine gun bunker which was the principal source of hostile fire. Severely wounded by enemy snipers while charging across the open area, he pulled himself to the shelter of a nearby rock. Braving enemy fire for a second time, Pfc. Dias was again wounded. Unable to walk, he crawled 15 meters to the protection of a rock located near his objective and, repeatedly exposing himself to intense hostile fire, unsuccessfully threw several hand grenades at the machine gun emplacement. Still determined to destroy the emplacement, Pfc. Dias again moved into the open and was wounded a third time by sniper fire. As he threw a last grenade which destroyed the enemy position, he was mortally wounded by another enemy round. Pfc. Dias' indomitable courage, dynamic initiative, and selfless devotion to duty upheld the highest traditions of the Marine Corps and the U.S. Naval Service. He gallantly gave his life in the service to his country.

Source: http://www.army.mil/cmh-pg/moh1.htm

BURIAL INFORMATION

Location: Ohio
Cemetery:

Born:

Died:

Source, additional information and cemetery monument photo:

http://www.homeofheroes.com/gravesites/states/pages_af/dias_...

Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ralph_E._Dias

Note: This is not my ancestry.
My grandfather's name was Vick (Victor) Dias (Dies) and he died on December 25, 1985. He was married to Ellen Bosio (she died in 2001) and they had 7 children... Margaret (Sissy), Edward (Eddie), Joseph (Joe), Marie, Barbara, Dayton, and Dennis. Not sure if that is in the exact order or not. My mother is Barbara.

I remember a story being told about them living in Pennsylvania and that Ellen (my grandmother) was walking a cow or something. Just trying to get a feel for my lineage since I grew up in North Carolina.

Thanks!

She married Francisco Dias Raposa/Raposo. I do not believe that either of my great grandparents lived outside of the Acores.

They had several children including one named Francisco Dias Raposa.

Any help with these family lines are welcome. We have Manuel Dias, Alfred Dias, Hilda Dias, Henry Dias, Mary Dias and Arthur Dias there parents were Antone Dias (Rapoza) rumor or the story goes that Antone's birth certificate says Dias but his real father was Rapoza when the family came to America and was down on there luck they received assistance and at that time the state put Rapoza at the end of all there names because supposively Antone's father was a Rapoza?? well the two older children Manuel and Alfred were in the military and had a life so they did not change there name from Rapoza to Dias but the younger children all changed there names back to Dias Hilda, Mary, Henry, and Arthur are Dias' and Manuel and Alfred are Rapoza's. any of this sound familiar?? any help would be appreciated.

I am searching for information on the following: My great-grandmother, Luiza Pereira born @1869 in Bear Valley, Mariposa, CA, died 11 Dec 1893 in San Juan, San Benito, CA. She married Joseph M. de Silva @1888, had four children - Joe, Francisco and Rosa (my grandmother). Luiza may have died giving birth to another daugther, Louisa. Luiza died 11 Dec 1893 in San Juan. (In the 1900 census, Louisa was listed as adopted daughter of Frank Dias of Indian Gulch, Mariposa, CA. Frank Dias was also the father of Joseph de Silva's second wife, Mary Dias. Joseph and Mary then settled in Los Banos, Merced, CA where they had 11 children before she died 6 Nov 1918 and he died possibly 28 April 1930. Joseph is listed in the Los Banos Cemetery Index but Merced County does not have a death certicate for him. Any help out there??

Dias/Souza/Madeiros

I have been searching for any relatives of my Grandmother and Grandfather, both deceased. They were both born in Portugal (I've been told my Grandmother came from the Azores) I believe my Grandfather came from Lisbon.

My Grandmother: Matilda SOUZA DIAS, b. 10/24/1894, and d. 6/1975 in Springfield, MA. USA. Mother's name Mary DIAS, Father's name Tony SOUZA
Some of her sisters' names were Christina, Christy, Genevieve, Teresa, and brothers' names Manuel and Antonio

My Grandfather: Candida Madeiros(Birth name) (nick-named Frank),changed surname to DIAS at a young age, b. 1893 and d. 1952 in Northampton, MA., USA. Parents' names unknown. He had a sister named Louch or Luge, (sounds). I know he had brothers, but I do not know their names. I know he said he used to live in a castle, and that he came from royalty. Also know that one brother prepared for the Priesthood, and ended up getting a maid pregnant. I understand it broke his parents' hearts. I (think) that my Grandfather was an orphan when he travelled to the USA with some family around the year 1902 - 1906. He took a different surname. Do not know the reason why, or when. (MADEIRAS - DIAS) They sailed to New Bedford, MA., lived there for awhile and moved to Springfield, MA. I do Not know exactly when they married, but it was in either New Bedford, or Springfield, MA. around 1906 - 1910.

If anyone has any idea about these people, or recognizes any surnames, please e-mail me at SandiKim@msn.com. I would greatly appreciate it. I can not find any info on them. It is my brick wall. TIA!!

Sandi Mogle
