Would like to know more on his parents. They say he was born or at least baptized in Oka,Quebec(1857?) and died around Sudbury,Ont in the late 1940's.That he was Mohawk, that he trapped, hunted and did guide work for American tourists. My great grandfather, Joseph George Dicaire married an Algonquin or a Nipissing native by the name of Catherine Stevens(a.k.a Shawanabinesi) at Fort William,Quebec on Sept 15,1887.The priest who performed the wedding,Father Nedelec, indicates that his parents were Michel Dicaire and Anastasie Papino, both natives from Lake of 2 Mountains(Oka).I have found through my search that this priest wasn't always accurate with his info.Interestingly, there was a Grand chief of the Nipissings,Francois-Xavier Kaondinoketch(a.k.a.Papino)who made his summer home in Oka in the early 1800's.Any correlation between my great great grandmother Anastasie Papino and F.-X Papino? Hoping to hear from someone regarding this search.
