I don't have anything on J. Henry C. Dice, but . . .I do have a Henry (Deis) Dice b. 1818/1819 in Bavaria, then in PA then in Michigan d. 7/14/1898. It seems that there are lots of Dice families and w/similar names. "My" Henry had a son Charles (noted your "C.") and a son John and a son Jacob (noting your "J.") All of this made me wonder if there might be a connection somehow (uncle, etc.)

I'd be interested in any thoughts - and willing to share info. paris@yosemite.net

Hi Annabelle. I know this is an old message of yours but I've tried several ways to contact you and hope this reaches you. Your Jacob Dice is the father of my Henry Dice. I found your tree at Ancestry but your email there is no longer valid. Henry was not in your tree but you noted there may be other children of Jacob, and Henry is one of them. I researched the Dice's briefly as there was one short connection to my family. Henry Dice married my Emma Royal in 1892 in Brooklyn, NY and they were both re-"married" by 1900. Would love to hear from you if you are still out there.
Thanks - Linda NYC

Dara....any interesting leads since we last spoke? Especially interested in William Dice born abt 1799 in Tennessee. If the W Dice listed in the 1850 Spring Creek, Phillips County, Arkansas Census living in the household of Susan M Harris is our William Dice, would love to find the connection between the Dice and Harris family. Am wondering if Susan M Harris is our Williams sister. And...who are Susan, Elizabeth and Mary S Dice listed in the same household??? Drop me a line thegenseeker@lycos.com

Henry Dice in Ohio

I'm researching my husbands g g grandfather. He was Henry Dice born about 1846 and married Mary Miller Dice. They had 5 children: William H.1875, Albert F.1877, Edward F.1879, Mary A.1881 and Joseph T.1885. I know that he served in the Civil War with his brother John Dice in Company A,148th Reg for the Ohio National Guard. He died in 1890 and Mary the wife died in 1932 in Kentucky. I can't seem to find any information on Henry and John's parents. The family has been told the family originaly came from Germany and they know the name changed, but don't know from what. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm Stuck.

Re: Infomation on DICE from TUCKER COUNTY WEST VIRGINIA

I just got through reading the reply to your thread. I am pleased to say, that I am or am possibly related to you. My Great Grandmother was Mary Jane Dice. She was the daughter of William Dice, and possibly Elizabeth. I did happen to see Sandy Dices (her brother) death certificate. It showed a Belle Davis listed as the mother. So I am not sure if William had more than one wife, I do know that he had a lot of children. The one's that I have been able to find were James, Sandy, Robert, Bessie, Mary (my great grandmother), and Bertha. I know that William's father and mother were from Scotland, and that William's fathers name was James Dice. I am not sure if the last name was changed once he came to the U.S. or not. But according to his immigration papers, he was a Dice when he came to America. So this is very interesting. I've been searching and searching for information. Everything seemed so sketchy and was hard for me to put together. But am glad the gentleman before you posted what he did. Now I have Williams wife's name. I am hoping Belle was a nickname for Elizabeth, but am not sure. The birth mother of Sandy was named Belle with a maiden name of Davis. They said she was from Maryland. So I am hoping to find more information. Take care and thanks for posting your thread.

Angie Gainer-White

I have never seen documation to prove that the wife of Adam Stump(1759-1835) buried in Fairview cemetery York Co. maiden name was Deiss. There was a Catherine Deiss married to an Adam Stump in 1809. But this Adam 1759 and Catherine 1754 had children in the 1790's and would have been 50 and 59 years old in 1809.
Can anyone clear this up for me?

Wondering if there is any connection. My gr gr gr grandfather is Henry Deis from Serenes, Bavaria and come to the US about 1832 with his parents (no names) and they settled in PA. He later moved to Ohio and then onto Michigan. He married Mary Barbara Barth (from Germany or Bavaria) about 1842 (I don't know where) and they had 10 children. (I can share those if interested.) Does anyone know more about this family or a connection with anyone? Thanks

Sue - paris@yosemite.net

Hi, Susan,
I think you mean that Rev. JOHN Smith Dice is your great grandfather. We are cousins--twice actually. The name Renfrew is the clue: two Dice brother, John & George married two Renfrew sisters, Margaret & Catherine. Your John Dice is the son of George & Catherine and John & Margaret were the parents of Ira, my great grandfather. I have lots of info on your branch and I am also in contact with another of your line, Patrice Russell. She lives in Orange County. I live in Northern California, usually, but am now in SoCal.
Email me at aprldice@mcn.org

April

The original church records were in German but as the services and Bibles eventually were in English, the spelling of the surnames changed. I am descended from Peter Theiss b 1778 in Lancaster CO., PA. His father John died Apr 1788 in Brecknock Twp., Lancaster Co., PA. His mother was Elizabeth Catherine Aras Ressler who died in 1791 in Lancaster Co.
In 1799 Peter married Christina Schneider in the Schwartwald Reformed Church in Berks Co., PA. They moved to Westmoreland Co., PA around 1800. The German church baptismal record for their first son is THEYS. The next one is THEIS and others are DICE. My gg grandparents and subsequent generations used the surname DICE. They lived in Plum Twp., Allegheny Co., PA as well as Franklin Twp., Westmoreland Co and Burrell Twp., Armstrong Co., PA. I have found a birth record in Lancaster County that could be my John Dice: In the records of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Lancaster Co., PA there is a birth record for a Johann Deis born 18 Dec 1747. Parents were Johann and Anna Maria.
Another child is listed to a Johannes and A. Maria, Casper Deis, born 27 Dec 1743 (records of the Moravian Church of Lancaster Co., PA).
Source: John T. Humphrey, Pennsylvania Births: Lancaster Co., 1723-1777, (Humpfrey Publications; Washington, D. C. 1997). Is anyone familiar with this Lancaster Co., PA family?
JoAnn Cupp
Grass Valley, CA
Hello! I am Susan Margaret Dice Daughenbaugh, James Renfrew Dice's granddaughter. Rev.James Smith Dice II is my great-grandfather. My father (deceased) is James Harris Dice and James Renfrew Dice's only child. His mother is Marion Welch Dice. I've always wondered where the last name of Dice came from and whether it had been "Americanized" at some point. My brother is named after our grandfather and is James Renfrew Dice II. I also have a sister Peggy Louise Dice Walstead. I'm interested in how / where the names Theiss and Tice became or are related to the name Dice. I was born in Mankato, Minnesota, but have lived most of my life in California and have never met anyone by the name of Dice. I would be interested in learning more about other branches of our family.

Susan Daughenbaugh; Bishop, California

Thank you for the correction. I understand that you don't have quite the information thay your brother had on the Dice family. Would you still be interested in exchanging information? While I do have quite a bit on the descendants of George & Frances Dice Ream (my 3rd great-grandparents), I don't have a great deal on the rest of the Dice family--and what I do have has come from other online postings and your brother.

Our first common ancestors would be John, Jr. & Esther Keiffer Dice. This couple would be your 3rd great-grandparents and my 4th great-grandparents.

Your cousin,
William "Bill" H. Ream, Jr.
I have worked up a short file on this line. They are from Scotland and are not related to my line which is from Germany. I can't vouch for all of this, some may be in error, but it what I have accumulated.

Descendants of William Dice
Generation No. 1
1. WILLIAM1 DICE1,2,3,3 was born 1848 in Scotland. He married (1) ELIZABETH3. She was born 1855. He married (2) BERTHA4.
Melissa...

I know a bit about your Robert Dice. He was married to Sarah Alice Harr, daughter of Miles Franklin Harr and Mathilda Fletcher. My relationship is via Mathilda's family. Robert Henry Dice died in WVA in 1962; his son Robert Pierson Dice died in FL in 1993. I don't know what happened to Enid. There were other Dice children as well.

David Fletcher
Richmond, VA

Dice/Dise

I recently purchased a CDV photograph of a young lady dressed in equestrian attire. The photographer was O'Neill, Wheeling, WVa; penciled on the back of the photograph is "Jane Dise". The "s" in Dise could pass for a "c". Is this a relative of anyone?

Virginia, Was just looking over the DICE message board and saw your message.
I do not think we are connected, but who knows. My g-grandfather and Nancy Dice Baker's g-grandfather were brothers.
Do you have a brother named John Dice that works for the Social Security, and was in the Army in Germany in the 1960"s? He was living in Washington state, about 15-16 yrs. age. and is he still there?
If he is the same one, he was in the same barracks with my brother James L. Dice.
Let me know.
Nancy Dice Heck
