lost Bible

My mother has 4 Bibles out of a 5 Bible set that was bought
by an Dickenson family member. She was given them back in
the early 1960's. The first Bible has the date it was bought and the person whom bought it.The names are recorded for
Births, Marriages, and Deaths.I am not sure if the last Bible
has survived the age in time, becouse it was bought in the
early 1800's.I am also not sure if there would be any family names recorded in it ? If any body has any information about
this bible, it would be appreacated. also I could pass along
any information requested. The main names in it are Dickenson, then Steele, then some Huffman.
My e-mail is dnewman48@aol.com

thanks Dave
ancestors of Walter Dickinson m. Jane Yarrett

I've seen some pedigrees in print that trace Walter Dickinson's ancestry back to Simon Dickinson m. Catherine Dudley. Does any one here know if this line is still accepted to be true? Some sources make Walter's father Charles Dickinson of London m. ? Carter and name Charles Dickinson's father Simon Dickinson m. Catherine Dudley. Others insert a James Dickinson between Charles Dickinson of London and Simon Dickinson. Any help with this would be much appreciated. Thanks

Does anyone have information on the DICKENSON/DICKINSON line that connects with the SPENCER/REED line? I have a Nathaniel DICKENSON born in Hanover Co, VA and died in 1753 in Louisa County, VA. He married Mary (mku). Nathaniel and Mary DICKENSON had a son Griffith who married Ann COSBY. Griffith was born in VA and died in Louisa Co., VA in 1785/86. Griffith and Ann DICKENSON had a daughter, Lucy, who married 1st Abraham SPENCER in VA 1761. Lucy died in 1832 in Wilkes Co., NC after marrying Matthew COX. She is buried in Floyd Co. VA but I have not been able to find where she was buried. Their daughter married into my REED line. If anyone has anything on any of these families, I sure would appreciate dates, names. or where I can find the information at.

Eleanor (Ella) Dorothy Dickinson/Dickenson/Dickerson

Need a fresh look - How do I prove it's MY ggrandmother?

Looking for Eleanor (Ella) Dorothy Dickinson/Dickenson/Dickerson's parents...

WHAT I KNOW: based on death certificate and census info (1880 and on) is that she was born 11/26/1865 in one of three places - (1)Schroon Lake, Essex County, NY, (2), Yonkers, Westchester County, NY, or (3) Benson/Castleton/Rutland, Rutland County, VT.

I have found Henry Wm./Amanda Dickerson in the 1870 VT Census listing Ella as a daughter at about the right age. Having posted to mailing lists and sites, others have given me Amanda's maiden name - Fassett, and the fact that these people had 11 children and their names and where they are buried. All wonderful, but I don't know for sure this is MY Ella.

I have found Henry/Amanda (Mandy) Dickenson in the 1860 NY Census in Schroon Lake; of course, no Ella- too early. They are listed in the 1850 VT Census living separately in rooming houses.

NY doesn't have birth records that early. IF she was Episcopalian, the Yonkers churches/library do not have record of her. The library actually said they lost the microfilm that contained her year. Yonkers officials have no record of birth. Rutland County has not record of her birth.

Where else do I look for her early years? Her marriage (2nd)license in 1894 Chicago gives no parent/birth info. Her death certificate in 1939 W Va. gives no parent info or specific birth info. She was supposed to have been married (prior to 1894) to a Mr. Fuller who died at sea. I do not know where they married; how she got to Chicago; where he died. That marriage license might give info.
Levi Dickenson ~ 1770's

"Farm families that stayed where they were, displayed a restleness. Not satisfied to plow the same furrow, they disversified their activities. The flocks of geese they kept, though their cackling heard miles away drowned out the minister's sermon, three or four times a year yielded up feathers for household use or for sale. Levi Dickenson of Hadley, Massachusetts, planted half an acre of broom corn. Scraping away the seed with a knife, he first scrubbed the corn, then combed and tied the brush, then sewed it, pressing the needles with a "leather palm." He successfully peddled two hundred brooms around the countryside and the following year planted an acre.
Where they could, innovative people expanded their output; they converted pasture into tillage, or they took fish when the season permitted, and salted and packed it; or they used moments of leisure to whittle shingles, cobble boots, cut nails, press cider, or distill vinegar."

I am not related to Levi. I am just passing on this information, which comes from a book titled "A Restless People" by Oscar & Lilian Handlin. 1982.
Joyce

Dickenson Info...

   Hi there,

I hope this may help you! All of my Dickenson family is from Cracker's Neck and Big Stone Gap in VA. As a young child, my parents always went there for vacation. I know for a fact that there was a Cecil Dickenson in our family and I'm pretty sure that James Dickenson is my great grandfather. If he is not my great grandfather, then he is my great uncle because some of the younger Dickenson children were taken in by their siblings from what I understand. My grandfather's name is Herbert Hoover Dickenson and he lived with his brother Herman and his wife Ruby before he married Lula Francis Pauline Gilbert. After that, they moved to Jonesboro,TN and then onto Detroit,MI then returning once again to Jonesboro in 1990. They still live there and alot of the Dickenson family still live in Big Stone. Aunt Ruby is dead now, but if Uncle Herman is still alive, maybe he and his children could help you get some information.

Owens Chapman Dickenson of NV

I have two pictures taken in Verdi, NV. One is labeled Margaret Wright, my great aunt, and Baby Dickenson. They were obviously taken the same day. My great aunt was born in 1899 and she appears to be about 5 or 6 in the picture. The baby is wearing a long dress and is sitting on it's own. Owens Chapman Dickenson was married to Hattie Peterson the daughter of S. and Cristina Peterson b 1855 Denmark. I may have a family connection to the Petersons and would like to correspond with anyone researching this family. I would like to share the pictures with any members of this family. It is possible that this is the child of Ben F Dickenson, the brother of Owens.

I am the youngest granddaughter of their son Lewis C.F. listed in the 1860 census with them and listed with them as Fulton, in the 1850 census. He migrated to KY with an older brother and sister.
Isabella B. Dickenson Bible & Poem

I am in posession of a small leather covered "pocket" bible, published in 1855. The front inside page facing the cover has VERY faint writing that appears to be "New Years' Present from her Mother to Isabella B. Dickinson January 1, 1858 "remember now they Creator in the days of thy youth.""

Another page of paper not part of the original bible is stuck inside with adhesive tape, and has a handwritten poem that nearly fills both sides, and appears to be in the same hand as the dedication. This is signed "Helen M. D_ _ _ _ _", presumably Dickinson.

There appears to be a name, and possibly a town and/or state written on the inside back cover, which I don't like to speculate on, but the surname COULD be "Harney" or "Hurney" and what I believe may be a town name appears to be begin as "Wimes...." or "Winnes...."
Anyone interested in this bable may feel free to contact me.

John N. Dickerson/Dickenson/Tynes- Kirkville MS Cem info wrong!

The Kirkville, MS Cemetary transcriptions on the Itawamba County, MS site are incorrect for Roxie N. (TYNES)DICKENSON, husband John H. DICKENSON, son Fisher DICKENSON. They are listed as DICKERSON. No wonder I could not find family to invite to the descendants of eleven children of Dr. Henry L. TYNES reunion April 27 at Bay Springs, MS. Roxie was his daughter. We were at a dead end. Now I'm in touch with Fisher's granddaughter, and she spells the name Dickenson, and I have a bunch of new cousins to invite!!! And a bunch of records to correct.

I am trying to get information on Margaret J. Dickenson.
She married Jefferson Davis Fraley, She had 2 children,
Sarah Etta, born in 1888 and Julia, born in 1886.I think
they were born in Wise Co and then moved to Scott Co.Va
around Duffied, Va. She died shortly after Sarah Etta was
born and Jefferson(Jeff Davis) remarried. There was a Bob
Dickenson who lived in Dante, Va.,not sure whether it was a son, brother or what connection. Sarah Etta was my
grandmother and was raised by a stepmother. The family
does not have any information on her. Would like to find
something on her.I think she might have been from Wise
County, Va.
kay
Harriet M. Dickinson and Caleb Bonaparte Arner (1816-1866); Mahoning Co., OH with PA roots

The Arner Family Association seeks descendants of:

HARRIET M. DICKINSON, Caleb Bonaparte Arner, 1816-1866, Green, Mahoning, OH.

You are almost certainly descendants of Hans Ulrich Arner and Verena Eberhard, 1735 immigrants from Switzerland to Philadelphia. Join us for an August 24-25, 2002 gathering in beautiful Lehigh County, Pennsylvania (1 hour north of Philadelphia). For “reunion” information or to see where you fit into the *rner family, visit Joe Erner’s website at www.geocities.com/~erner/gen/arner which documents the Arner/Aner family to the 1500s, or contact us through the Arner Listserv at ARNER-L@rootsweb.com. We’re planning two fun-filled days including a catered Pennsylvania Dutch luncheon and the dedication of a memorial stone in the Heidelberg Union Church cemetery to honor the immigrants. Help us widen our circle of cyber-cousins and plan to attend. We welcome you.
