I am at a brick wall of long standing. It involves my gggrandmother Samantha Dickerson. She was born March 12, 1827 in Butler County, Ohio. Supposedly her parents were John Dickerson and Elizabeth Gray. I have found no proof of this. Samantha married John Palmer in Ripley County. Elizabeth Gray is said to be the daughter of David Gray and Nancy Blackburn. Again no proof, and the dates don't quite mesh. If anyone has anything on this family, please get in touch.

Hi Dickerson Kin! My gggrandmother was Mary Elizabeth Dickerson, born 1823 in Hall County, Georgia, who married Robert Saye also from Hall County Georgia. I do Know that her father was Hiram D. Dickerson born 1793 in South Carolina and died in Blount Co. Alabama in 1863. His wife was Rebecca McDonald born around 1800. I really do not know alot about this side of the family and would really like to find out what happened to her siblings, ect. So if anyone can fill me in I would love to hear from you. I think Hiram's father was a Robert Dickerson born 1770 in Kentucky. If anyone can confirm this, let me know.
Lisa

Florence lived there until her death 7 Apr 1993 and there were three daughters. Joan A., Shirley L. and Vinita F. Carl died in Apr of 1963. I don''t know if Carl met her in Iowa or Nebraska but they did go back to Indiana.

I am looking for any information on my grandfather Grevnor T Dickerson. In the 1920 census he was living in Wilmer, TX., married to Birdie Goleman, and shows to have been born about 1889 in Tennessee. He died in 1955 and is buried in Texas - this I know for sure. I visited the grave site with my father(his son)A.D. Dickerson before my father passed away in 1998. I am a bit new to the geneology search but have been able to find some background on Birdie his spouse but none on Grevnor T. Dickerson.

Dickersons who are Native American, TN, MO, IL
My GGrandmother was either the daughter of a man named Dickerson, or was adopted by a family of Dickersons in Tennessee, Missouri or Illinois. In 1871 she married a man named Nathan Sams of McClure, IL. We have information on her post marriage, but very little about her life prior.

We believe that she was born in 1854, we believe in Sharon, Tennessee.

She is supposed to be Chickamauga Indian, but she could be from another tribe. She is definitely Native American. We have pictures of her.

She is believed to have had a brother Willie, Charles or John. This person came with my GGrandmother in 1865 to the Cape Girardeau area.

Does this sound familiar to anyone?

Dickerson / Lloyd families of Oklahoma & Indiana

My grandmother recently loaned me several family photos, including a very old portrait she couldn't identify.

The picture is of an older couple and a young girl. On the back someone has written Grandpa & Grandma Dickerson and something illegible, then Lloyd, a familiar family surname.

So, the girl is probably a Lloyd, but my grandmother had no idea who the Dickersons were.

The picture is on thick paperboard, and on the front bottom edge is stamped "Brooks," probably the photographer, then "Norman and Shawnee, Okla." My grandmother said some of her family did, in fact, move to Oklahoma, but she wasn't very clear on who, exactly.

Our Lloyd ancestors include Henry Lloyd Sr., born in 1802 in Kentucky, and his son Henry Lloyd Jr., born 29 April 1849, in Martin County, Ind., died 10 May 1918 in Martin County, Ind.

If any of this rings a bell, I would love to hear from you.

Jamie R.
Lynched - Ben Dickerson

Appears in "The Landmark" 31 January 1914, Rush Springs, Grady County, Oklahoma

Fifty Determined Men Make Quick Work of Brutal Slayer

Purcell – A mob of 40 or 50 men forced the jailer to unlock the door of the McClain County jail at Purcell at 5:30 Tuesday morning at the point of a gun and Ben Dickerson, negro, alleged slayer of W. A. Chaffin of Oklahoma City, was captured and taken north. The company arrived in Purcell in automobiles.

The angry mob with the negro in its midst started north for Noble, just eight miles north of Purcell. There the negro was lynched.

At daylight Dickerson was hanged a half mile south and one and a half miles east of Noble. After being hanged the negro’s body was riddled with bullets. The mob cam in six automobiles.

The jailer in charge of the Purcell jail was O. W. Morgan. He was alone when the mob entered. Only four or five of the party went into the jail. The others waited outside. Morgan made no resistance.

G. G. Vincent, sheriff of McClain County, said early Tuesday morning that no warning had been given of the approach of the mob.

Sheriff Vincent said that no one was awake in the town when the mob entered the jail and that the noise did not wake up the city.

“I knew nothing about it until the negro had been taken in custody by the mob,” said Vincent. “Purcell is a very small place and it was impossible to prevent the mob from taking Dickerson.” Vincent said that his information was that the mob came from Oklahoma City.
He married Linny/Jenny MARDERS in King George County in 1821.

William died between 1845 - 1850. According to the 1850 census, their children were:
Elizabeth, born ca 1825
John H., born ca 1883, married to Sarah Berry first and then Mary Columbia Scott
Susan, born ca 1837
Ann, born ca 1838
Vinton, born ca 1840, married to Agnes Scott
Sarah J, born ca 1844
Thomas, born ca 1845

Seeking info on William's ancestry...he may be from Caroline County as it is right over the border from where the Dickersons lived in King George. Also seeking any info on his descendants. I have Vinton's line, as that is mine. Some time during the late 1800's, the family name was changed to DICKINSON.

I am hoping for a break. Does anyone know where these two were born? When? Died? I have alot of information about their children but as I have found out, this line of Dickerson didn't talk much. Most of the children went by initials or nicknames. They had several children one being John B. Dickerson b. 27 Feb.1877 d.27 Jan. 1954 in Norman Oklahoma. He was a groceryman.

I have some old photos of Anna Dickerson (probably her married name) that my grandmother, Hilda Boswell Scott, kept. I believe they were childhood friends in Kansas. Anna was probably born around 1900, married with at least 5 children, 2 boys and 3 girls. The youngest 2 girls were twins. If you think you may be related, let me know. I would love to find a home for these photos.

I was wondering if any Dickerson lines have had ancestors who died with brain tumors? My first husband, Wayne Dickerson died at age 25 and his father, Larry Dickerson died at age 35 - both from brain tumors. After doing research on the type of cancer my husband had there have been recent findings that suggest it could be somewhat affected by genetics. (not having the cancer suppresor gene) So, I am just curious.......

Donna Brown

ggg grandparents William Dickerson & Nancy Corn m. 5 Oct 1815 Franklin Co., Ind. Have come across Robert Dickerson & Nancy Booth who had 7 children (Drusilla, Alexander, Mary, William, Sarah, Ruth & Philadelphia) My William b. 1795 the afore mentioned Mary b. 1796 and Philadelphia b. 1797. All born in Ky. Can anyone help me with proving or disproving the relationship between my William and the William listed as a son of Robert. A Marion Co., Ind. deed of 1830 lists all 7 children of Robert and their spouses with the spouse of William being named as Nancy, the same as the spouce of my ggg grandfather. Another piece possibly tieing my William to the family of Robert is Robert's daughter, Philadelphia, was also married in Franklin Co., Ind. 1816, one year after my William was married there.

Looking for unknown half siblings

Looking for children of either Ruth May Taylor Dickerson, or Evelyn Winifred Dennison Dickerson who were both, at one time, married to my Dad in New York State. Only info. I have currently is that Ruth & my Dad married in Jamestown, NY on 11-30-21, and divorced on 11-28-1927 in Warren, Penn. Evelyn married my Dad in Fredonia, NY on 6-18-28, and it appears that at least one daughter, Doris, was born out of that marriage about July or August of 1929?? No record of a divorce from Evelyn found as of yet. I do also know that possibly one of Ruth's daughters by my Dad did visit him & his third wife at Santa Rosa, Calif. around 1942-43?? I am the result of that thrid marriage DOB 1-22-48, and I have two siblings, born before & after me.

Dan Dickerson, abt 1766-1844, Perry, Wyoming Co., NY

I am trying to find out information on Dan's children. My grandfather tells me that 4 Dickerson brothers moved to Michigan where they were lumberjacks (abt 1850). I think Dan & Ann (Campbell) may have been their parents, but I can't link the family I know of in Michigan (David Dickerson of Eaton County, 1826-1912) to Dan. There's another David Dickerson in Livingston County, MI, (c1806-1884) who I have found evidence is the son of Dan, but he's not my David's father! I'm guessing he may be an uncle ... I'm still missing a generation!

Thanks,
Greta
