Father of Ebenezer Dickinson

I am looking for the father of Ebenezer Dickinson that was the GG Grandfather to Emily Dickinson (the poet). I have seen it listed two ways with Ebenezer being the son born to Samuel and Martha (nee Bridgeman) born 1681, and Ebenezer being the son of Nathianiel and Hannah (nee Frary) Dickenson, born 1690. Can anyone straighten this out for me? I would like to know your resources if possible.
A Dickinson Family Bible found: Biddy and Thomas Dickinson from England to NY, 1844, children ,Wm., Janus, John Tunnard and more

My cousin found a Dickinson family bible given to his dad years ago by someone else with the same surname near Denver. (we are not related). There are several names and birthdates in the bibles. Biddy Barnard Dickinson, b. 1810 in Lincolnshire, m. Thomas Dickinson, b. abt. 1811 in England. They came to NY in 1844 with children William, John Tunnard, Janus, Thomas Jr. Also looks like Thomas Sr. had two brothers that came on the same boat, a William, b. 1819, and Tunnard, b. 1822.

Here is the info from the Bible:
We looked in the back of the bible and this appears to have some history to the bible, it looks like it was printed in 1867. There were several names in the back and maybe you could use your skills to see if they were related to us.

Thomas & Biddy Dickinson (Biddy Barnard) Biddy was born 20th of March 1810, Died 1864, emigrated from England in 1823 (?). She married Thomas in May 17, 1830 (or 1836).

William Dickinson Born on the 27th of December 1837
John Tunnard Dickinson Born on January 6, 1839
Janus Dickinson Born December 25, 1839
Thomas Dickinson Born April 8, 1841
George Dickinson Born April 10, 1845
Charles Dickinson Born July 13, 1846

Charles and Anna Dickinson married July 25, 1869

Cook Jessie Dickinson Born March 31, 1871
Novinous Elihn Dickinson Born October 25, 1873
Hannah Dickinson died January 14, 1876
William Judison Dickinson born May 23, 1881
Leslie Benton Dickinson born December 14, 1882 (I believe this is the ancestor of the man who gave the bible - Leslie Dickinson, he never married or had children and died in 1969 in Colorado.)

I can't find Thomas Sr. and Biddie in the census anywhere in the U.S. after they arrive. Tunnard appears to be in Ohio in 1850 with three daughters and his wife, Mary Ann.

Charles' son, Novinous, registered for WW1 in Michigan. His son, Carl, also lived in Michigan. Leslie Benton also registered for the WW1 draft in Michigan, lists occupation as physician. He died in Colorado. Leslie's son, Leslie Jr., is living with his uncle William Judison Dickinson in Michigan in the 1920 census.

I suspect some of the family may have removed to Canada during the Civil war, since they are nowhere to be found in the US census, but I don't know for sure.

If anyone thinks they may have a connection, please contact me. I'd like to see the Bible info end up back "home."

Dickinson family in Ohio

I am searching for descendant of Orville Dickinson who moved to Randolph, Ohio in the early 1800's from CT, after purchasing land from the Conn. Land Company. His daughter, Comfort and her husband Chauncey Harmon may have built the house that we purchased last year and are hoping to find information about the family and our house. The original deed is dated 1828. The Harmon's lived in the house until around 1860. The Dickinson's were greatly involved in the formation of Randolph, Ohio. Any information would be greatly appreciated!

Eleanor Dickinson, sister of Vera (Dickinson) Gale

I have three original photographs of Gale ancestors, which I would like to get back to descendants or family members. One is of Eleanor Dickinson.

First is the “Wedding photo of Otis and Lilly (Gregory) Gale”, taken in Rockford (Winnebago Co.) IL, in 1910. OneWorldTree shows the wedding date as 7 Dec 1910 in Kendall Co., and he was Otis Murray Gale (born 26 Nov 1887 Kendall Co.) and she was Lillian M. Gregory. He was listed as son of William M. Gale and Marbry J. Latham. 1920 census shows them to be in Volinia (Cass Co.) MI.

Next photo is of “family of William Gale”, taken about 1899. Identified are: William, Lula – holding Ray Gale (about 6 months old); Neil, about age 19, Cornell, about age 16?, and Otis, about age 14. Ancestry WorldTree Project shows William M. Gale, born 31 Aug 1857, married as second wife Lula A. Dale (born 6 Dec 1871), and their son George Raymond born 12 Jul 1898 in Winchester (Franklin Co.) TN. First wife Gertrude was mother of Cornell (Jun 1882), Neil (Sep 1886), Otis (Nov 1887) and Merrill W. (May 1890).

Last photo is a postcard photo of “Eleanor Gale and Eleanor Dickinson”, taken about 1910. Eleanor Dickinson is age 30 and Eleanor Gale is about 4-6 months old. Eleanor Gale is shown in WorldTree, as daughter of Cornell L. Gale and Vera H. Dickinson Gale, with date of birth 11 Aug 1909 in Plano (Kendall Co.) IL, so I am assuming Eleanor Dickinson is sister of Vera Dickinson Gale, and aunt of Eleanor Gale.

Get back to me at margerice@prodigy.net if you are related to the Gale or Dickinson or Gregory family.

Dickinson family of Winnebago Co., IL – Emily, Fred W., Florence, Annie & Theodore, children of William/Ann

I have an original postcard photograph of “Theodore Dickinson, Fred Dickinson, Florence Dickinson Robbins, Anna Dickinson Robbins and Emily Dickinson Milne”, which I’d like to get back to descendants or family members. Photo was taken in approx. 1910-1915, and each of them looks to be from 50-65.

I found the family of William Dickinson (born 1822; died 1895 Winnebago Co., IL) and wife Ann Coward – in Ancestry’s OneWorldTree, verifying the names on the back of the photo. In the 1900 Winnebago Co., IL census was Theodore William Dickinson (born 16 Feb 1863, per OWT), and wife Nellie, with their daughter Vera Dickinson, age 10 – see my previous post re Eleanor Dickinson. OWT shows Florence Dickinson, DOB 10 May 1856, who married Robert Robbins; Annie Dickinson, DOB 6 Jan 1860, who married James Robbins; Fred W. Dickinson, DOB: 12 May 1850; Emily Dickinson, DOB: 22 Feb 1848, married Frederick Milne.

Get back to me at margerice@prodigy.net if you are related to these Dickinson siblings.

Surnames linked to the family include GARDINER, DRYDEN, CONLEY, CARTER, SANDS, JOLLY, VAUGHAN (of these I am only researching CONLEY). The occupation of Police Officer/Constable is a recurring theme throughout the families history.
I have tried to contact jlbriggs2000 regarding their post but there is a problem with Rootswebs posting system!
Dickinsons from Texas and Mexico

My great grand father was Frank August Dickinson son to Charles Burns Dickinson. I know little about him, he was born around 1880 in Brownsville, TX. He may have been a consul at San Luis Potosi, Mexico. He died in Mexico.
In some papers I have his name is spelled Franck Augustus.

I think his brother may have been John Y Dickinson.

I'm researching the life of Mrs Maude J Dickinson, widow of T.G.Dickinson, who died before 1911. Mrs D. was born in Somerset, but spent most of her youth & childhood in Burlington, Iowa. She later returned to England and after nursing her husband through a long illness until his death (I don't know whether she married in England or the United States and where he was born or died) devoted her life to manufacturing various antiseptic products. She was active in Brighton, Sussex from about 1911 until the early 1920s and then disappears from view. Unfortunately, I do not know her maiden name, date of birth, marriage or death. Can anyone help please?

Message for Nancy M. Dickinson (OH)

Dear Ms. Dickinson,
are you by any chance the Nancy M. Dickinson of Ohio that submitted information on the familysearch.com web-site on Albert Burton Dickinson and his wife Florence Beard of Dallas Co. Arkansas? The reason I'm asking is that I'm trying to locate descendants of this couple. My mother had a 6 page poem that was hand written by Florence in 1929, the year of her death at about 43 years of age, and I promised my mother that I would try to get this poem to her descendants. If you have information on this family I would sure appreciate anything you could share.
I can't find a family connection between Florence and my mother other than both of their maiden names were Beard they both can be verified by the U.S. Censuses as living in Carroll Township, Arkansas, Florence in 1880 and 4 years old and my mother Gwinnell in 1920 and less than 1 year old, and it's odd for my mother to have a copy of the poem, which is very touching and eloquently written, if their families weren't at least close friends. I have quite a bit of information of my Beards but nothing that mentions Florence or her family,
but they may have been 2nd cousins or something like that and just not mentioned in writing. It's kind of puzzling. I'm anxious to hear from you.

Sincerely,
Kenny Amis
Leesburg, Florida
k.amis@comcast.net
Florence Beard Dickinson

I have a poem written by Florence Beard Dickinson in 1929 that I would like to see given to her descendants. She was married to Albert Burton Dickinson on 27 Apr. 1902 in Dallas Co. AR and had 3 children. She was born 1876 and died in 1929. Her parents were William and Frances Beard and was living in Carroll Township, Ouachita Co. AR in 1880 along with her parents and siblings: Mary 12, Lillie 9, Burrell 5 and Franklin 1 years old. This poem is quite sentimental and 6 pages and I'm sure it would be invaluable
to her descendants! Carroll Township is near Smead and Ouachita, Arkansas near the Dallas/ Ouachita Co. lines. Albert died in 1966 near Sparkman, Dallas Co. AR.

Simon Dickinson

There seems to be 2 Simon "Z" DICKINSON's. Simon Zelotes Dickinson who was born 13 Aug 1827 in Ohio is NOT the one that I would like info on. My Simon Z DICKINSON was born in 1830 (in NYS according to the 1870 Census), and died March 21, 1876 (age 46). He was a Private during the Civil War in the 152nd Reg. NY Infantry Company "B" which is on file at LDS M551, roll 36. His wife's name was Charlotte (Williamson) DICKINSON, she was born in England (the child of James and Mary (Turner) WILLIAMSON). Simon and Charlotte had 3 children, Mary, Nellie and Agnes. After Simon passed away, Charlotte married David Bardwell and had one more child, Susie Bardwell. Simon and Charlotte are buried side by side in the Town of Trenton, Oneida County, NY in Hinckley Cemetery. I would love to know who Simon's parents and siblings were but every time I try to research him, the "other" Simon pops up! If anyone has ANY information at all on his family, Please reply to this post.
Thank you so much,
Carol

John Calvin and Swanson Dickinson

My grandfather (James McNeal Dickinson) called himelf a cousin to Swanson P. Dickinson, who was the son of John Calvin Dickerson/Dickinson, and the grandson of William Dickerson/Dickinson. Below is all the info I have found on Swanson's line. If you have any further info please contact me, as I am trying to figure out the connection of this Dickerson family to my Dickerson family which lived in King George County.

William Dickerson/Dickinson is listed on the 1870 Washinton twp. census with his wife Mary L., and sons Edwin and William. William was born ca 1837 in VA.

In 1880 they are still living in Washington twp. William is listed as a merchant. Their children include:
Edwin O, 12
Albert V, 10
J. C., 7
Jesse L, 5
William L, 2
Ferdinand J, 4 months

In 1900 they are still living in Washington twp. It appears the surname is spelled DICKERINSON. The family includes:
William, b. Mar 1836
Mary L, b. Sept. 1846
John Calvin, b. Sept. 1873
Ferdinand J, b. Oct. 1879
Fannie B., b. Feb 1882

In 1910, Mary is widowed and still living in Washington twp. Her son John Calvin is living adjacent to her, with his wife Carrie, and sons Calvin B. and Swanson P.

John Calvin, his wife Carrie, Swanson, and his wife Ruth are all buried at Round Hill Baptist Church in King George County. Ruth attended Colonial Beach Baptist Church for many years.

I have a brick wall with William Dickerson, born ca 1790 - 1800. He married Linny/Jenny MARDERS in King George County in 1821.

William died between 1845 - 1850. According to the 1850 census, their children were:
Elizabeth, born ca 1825
John H., born ca 1883, married to Sarah Berry first and then Mary Columbia Scott
Susan, born ca 1837
Ann, born ca 1838
Vinton, born ca 1840, married to Agnes Scott
Sarah J, born ca 1844
Thomas, born ca 1845

Seeking info on William's ancestry...he may be from Caroline County as it is right over the border from where the Dickersons lived in King George. Also seeking any info on his descendants. I have Vinton's line, as that is mine. Some time during the late 1800's, the family name was changed to DICKINSON.

obit - Dorothy Martha DICKINSON Lineberger, 1922 CA. - 2007 CA.

not related - for your info only

Lineberger, Dorothy Martha Dickinson

Dorothy Martha Dickinson Lineberger February 16, 1922 - September 9, 200 7 Dottie Lineberger quietly passed away at her home on Sunday, September 9, 2007. Dottie had been in failing health recently, but until this year, she managed to pack a lot into her 85 years spent mostly in Long Beach. Born on February 16, 1922 in Los Angeles, Dottie attended L.A. High and Stanford University (Class of 1944, Delta Gamma sorority) before marrying the love of her life, Jim F. Lineberger, in January, 1944. She and Jim wove 58 years of marriage together, raised a family of four children, and traveled to nearly every corner of the world. Dottie attended hundreds of football, basketball and baseball games while her husband, Jim officiated and, after his retirement, to watch them at his side. Dottie's younger years in summer were spent at Alamitos Bay where the Dickinson's owned a beach house and were original members of the Tiller and Leeway Sailing Clubs. After her marriage to Jim, she was an all-star "stay-at-home mom" and later earned a teaching credential at Long Beach State to become a kindergarten teacher after her children were grown. Her extended family of friends, neighbors and children were always welcome at her home at Elmfield Avenue. In 1979, Dottie and Jim opened the Lineberger Travel Trails on Anaheim Street and had the opportunity for twenty years to travel to nearly every country in the world. Dottie will be remembered always for her friendly, warm, and welcoming smile. She was generous, quick to lend a hand, cheerful and optimistic, and most of all, gentle and loving with everyon e she knew. Dottie will be missed by her friends and family, and her legacy is that she will be carried in the hearts of all who were fortunate to know her. She was predeceased by her husband, Jim in 2002. She is survived by her brother, George Dickinson (Ginnie); and sister, JoAnn Hubbard (Chan); children, Chuck (Jill), Susan Lineberger Cowitz (Jeff), Jim (Betsy) and Steve; grandchildren, Brad, Jeff, Steve, Chris, Julie, Kelly, Brian and Jennifer; great grandchild, Jazmine and a wealth of friendships in the Long Beach community. A celebration of Dottie's life is planned for Saturday, September 29th at the Los Altos United Church of Christ (1:30pm/5550 E. Atherton St. Long Beach) with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that a donation be made to the Long Beach Memorial Medical Center Foundation Rehab or Children's Hospital (2801 Atlantic, L.B. 90806).
Published in the Long Beach Press-Telegram from 9/15/2007 - 9/16/2007.
I am looking for my Dickinson family. The farthest back that I have been able to find is my gr gr grandfather Isaac K. Dickinson b 1824 in PA (according to the census) d Oct 1892 in Chester County, PA. The first that I have been able to actually find anything on him is in the 1842 census (PA or Chester Co) where he lived in Sadsbury (or Sadsburyville) twp. Chester County, PA. I believe from what I have been told by my family, that we are descended through Gaius (or Gayen) Dickinson, and I wish that I could tell you exactly where our line came from, but I have hit a brick wall at my gr gr grandfather Isaac K Dickinson b 1824 in PA (believed to have been born in Berks, Lancaster, or Chester County first found in the 1842 Pa or Chester Co census living in Chester County where he lived until his death). D Oct 23, 1892 in Chester County, PA. m Martha (maiden name unknown) they had several children.

James W DICKINSON b Oct 24 1847 m Martha G STEEN
William B DICKINSON b abt 1849
Ellis DICKINSON b 1851
Anna DICKINSON b abt 1857 m to William QUINN
John M DICKINSON b Mar 1859 d Jan 1908 Coatesville, PA m to Cora M Wescott b
1872 in NY d Sep 1960
Winfield K DICKINSON b Mar 1859
Caroline DICKINSON b abt 1870 m to Parke EBY

My gr grandfather John M DICKINSON and his wife Cora Martha WESCOTT b 1872
in NY. their children were:

Martha DICKINSON b Apr 1882 Chester County, PA m Joseph CALLAHAN
Hastings DICKINSON b Nov 1894 Chester County, PA
m Mary Belle HESS b Nov 1894 Chester County, PA
Charles DICKINSON b 1896 Chester County, PA m Elenor (maiden name unknown)

At one point, I actually was talking with someone who said that they knew who Isaac K Dickinson's parents were, but due to a census error, I thought that he was a different person because he was listed in the census as living with his family in Rock Run, Valley Twp, Chester County, PA AND with living with his daughter's family in Modena, Chester County, PA. Unfortunately, I then had problems with my computer (lost the hard drive) and lost their email address.
Dickinson from England and LaSalle County IL

I am currently researching the family tracing to William Dickinson and Jane Ann Thompson/Nicholson (she was actually a Thompson with a Nicholson stepfather) who were from County Durham, England (immigrated about 1886) and settled in LaSalle County IL,

Some of their children spread from there into Macoupin County IL; Portland, OR; and Philadelphia, PA. The father William Dickinson moved to Portland OR, apparently following the death of his wife, with four children (Elizabeth who married Archie L. McMartin; Ella; Edith; and Edwin/Edward who moved to Philadelphia and married there).

William was brother to my greatgrandfather Joseph Edward Dickinson, who also had immigrated (1886) had settled in Alabama along with older brothers Thomas (immigrated 1886) and George (immigrated 1880), along with their English-born wives and children.

I've traced this family back to Joseph and Susan Dickinson of Pelton, County Durham, England in the 1881 England census. Censuses back to 1851 show that Joseph was born in Selby, Yorkshire, England and Susan (last name currently unknown) was born in Coldstream, Berwickshire, Scotland.

Capt. Charles Dickinson and Richard Dickinson, Conneticut

I have a letter from Charles Monroe Dickinson, written to Phillip Wharton Dickinson in 1922. (Both Charles and of course Whatron were on the historical committee at the Amherst reunion in 1883,
Charles published the 'Reunion of the Dickinson Family book). Anyway, this letter states that Charle's father is Richard Dickinson, b. 1815, married to Betsey Rea, his grandfather is Joseph Dickinson married to Jane Crocker, and that his Great grandfather (whom I believe was also a Richard, prob. Capt. Richard Dickinson) has a brother, a Captain Charles Dickinson who served in the Revolutionary War. I am pouring through resource material, but fail to find this Captain Charles Dickinson, probably born in Conneticut.
Anyone have any help here? I have quite a bit of other documentation that I would be happy to share.(Charles Monroe D and my gggrandfather were first cousins)

William Dickinson 1811 Queens County Ireland

I am looking for any information about this man. Apparently sometime before 1851 he moved to England he appears on those census records and lists his birth place as Queens County, Ireland. He married Sarah Desmond, she is also from Ireland. I am attempting to find out who their parents are.

Also looking for relatives that come through this line. They had nine children that I've found so far on the census records. My paternal great grandmother Annie Eleanor Dickinson came to America on her own when she was 18 years old. So we have lost touch with our Irish/English relatives and would like to re-establish a connection.

Thank you

Kristy Honein
