I am looking for the ancestors of Benjamin Dick/Dicks b. abt. 1827. In 1850 he is Benjamin "Dick" living alone in Henry Co., VA and is listed as a shoemaker.

In 1860 he is "Benjamin Dicks" living in Franklin Co., VA and is married to Mary J. Semones with children James William Dicks and Beatrice Dicks. Also in the home is a Joseph H.
I rec'd an email at work asking if I was the right "Rodney C. Murrow" related to Achilles D. Dicks and others. The person who sent the message saw a previous message of mine on ancestry.com and he descends from my great-grandmother Mary Catherine Dicks Murrow's sister, LIZZIE, if I remember the message correctly. He indicated that he had data and photographs to share -- (and I am happy to share whatever information I have, too).

The email was inadvertently sent to my junk email box and was deleted before I had much of a chance to review it - and I have no idea who sent it.

My contact information is rod murrow @ g mail .com (all lower-case and all one 'word').

Dicks/Dix - GA/FL connection

My great grandfather was known as George W. Dix...that is until I found his WWI registration lately that had his signature as GEORGE WILLIAM DICKS in 1917. He stated on the 1930 census that he had been born in GA but on one census his parents were from GA and then on another they were from FL. All I know from mymother is that when he died in 1966 in Rapides Parish, LA, he had one brother in Florida. His birthday was 17 Jun 1880, so he is not on any census I have found so far. My grandfather (his son) was named JOE Dix...and another son was Dr. GEORGE WALTER DIX of Cameron Parish, LA.
Any possible leads would be appreciated.

Dru

Parents of Alfred John, Edward, and William Dicks, born ~1880s. Indiana.

I am looking for information regarding the parents of my great-grandfather, Alfred John Dicks.

Alfred John Dicks has several siblings; the only two I know with certainty are Edward O. Dicks (born 1881) and William J. Dicks (born 1887). Thus I believe Alfred was born in the 1870s.

From my searches, I believe that the parents of these men COULD be Charles (M?) Dicks who married a Margaret (Maggie) G. Dicks.

In the Indiana 1900 census, Charles and Maggie list a family including Edward (1881), William (1883), Katie (1885), Anna (1887), and Goldie/Golda (1890), but no Alfred. So I am not sure if this is the correct family, but with Edward on the right year, and William within the right decade, it seems that way.

If you look at this thread:
http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/message/an/surnames.edward... i believe this charles, son of John and Elizabeth, could be the same as charles who married maggie.

So that's all the information I have about that immediate family. Alfred's family (children) never appears in a census that I could find, but the kids do appear elsewhere, because:

Elizabeth (Ridge) Dicks died around 1920-1922. At that time, there were 5 children, and Alfred distributed these children among his siblings. Harvey Sherwood Dicks went to live with William. Henry Grant Dicks was sent to live with Edward. The other children of Alfred and Elizabeth were Ariel (that is her middle name, don't know first name), Dorothy Irene, and Alfred Jack.

So, I am looking to confirm the parents of Alfred John Dicks. Incidentally I would also like to find the parents of Elizabeth Ridge, but have much less information about her.

Emails are welcomed.

She married a JAMES BOUNDS, born about 1700 also in Dorchester, MD. They married about 1719 and apparently settled in Anson County, NC. I would like to know the name of Ann's mother, if possible.

John & Mary Dicks of Chester, PA. in 1762
These are to certify to all whom it may concern, that on the 17th day of December, 1761, my husband John Dicks did beat and abutse me his wife very much, and threatened to shoot me divers times, and on the 18th I went to my brother and sisters, about one mile and a half from Chester, and acquainted them of the affair; my brother and I returned to Chester immediately, where he, in his desperate humour, shut the door, and would not suffer me to enter my own house. And I do further certify that I never eloped from him, nor carried off any goods, only the clothes on my back, though he received of my portion to the amount of 300 pounds; and I have been obliged of late to bind him to the Peace, being in danger of my life. And I do also further certify that he hath mortgaged his house and lands, and am afraid that I and my children will come to want.
Mary Dicks, Chester, January 16, 1762.

I am not related to this family, I am just passing on this information, which comes from a book titled "Runaway Women, Elopements And Other Miscreant Deeds, As Advertised In The Pennsylvania Gazette - 1728 -1789. (together with a few abused wives and unfortunate children)." Compiled by Judith Ann Highley Meier. Published by Closson Press. 1993. Page 35.
Joyce

Mrs. Eunice Margaret (Blackburn) Dicks

I am seeking details regarding parents of siblings of these two sisters: Mrs. Eunice Margaret (Blackburn) Dicks and Mrs. Hester Minerva (Blackburn) Harrison.

Eunice was the elder sister who married Mr. Cornelius Dicks. Minerva married Jack "Jay" Lynder Harrison about 1852 in either Guilford County or Randolph County, North Carolina.

Jack was the son of Allen & Mrs. Catherine (Nelson) Harrison. The parents of Allen Harrison were the English sea captain Abraham Harrison & Mrs. Courtney (Allison) Harrison.

It could be that the Dicks family ancestry may contain stories related to the Harrison ancestry traced backward through Guilford and Randolph counties, North Carolina; through Virginia; and originating from England.

Any details would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I am looking for information on the Dicks family that resided in Adams County, PA. Those located in Reading Township, particularly. I am researching the history of a small village there, Hampton, wherein the Dicks lived throughout the 19th century. In fact, they were a prominent family there. I can't seem to tie into these Dicks from the One World Tree, so I'm hoping a Dicks researcher may be able to help me. If you have *any* information, no matter how small, could you please reply here or contact me via e-mail? Thanks so much,

John

COURT OF EQUITY RECORDS,
BARNWELL DISTRICT, S.C.

JOHN A. GREEN & WIFE - VS - THOMAS DICKS, et.al.
Bill ( or petition ) to require payment of Legacy.
Filed Dec. 17, 1852.

Petitioner John S. GREEN and wife Jane alleged that her father Josias DICKS died in said District on ( blank date ) 1850, and left a Will by which he bequeathed his estate to his wife Sarah and to their four sons Thomas, Joseph, James and William, they to pay testator's five daughters, Mary, Martha,
Ann, Sarah and Jane $100.00 each annually for five years.
The Will was duly probated. Petitioners allege that no part of the cash legacy coming to the said Jane has been paid, and
prayed that the defendants be required to pay same in terms of the Will.
No other papers in this case are in the file, evidently being lost.

Second Book Pages 51-110
Compiled by Folks Huxford

* I have no connection to any of these surnames, just trying to help. :)

Tom lived from Sept 17, 1839 to June 17, 1905, and Mary Ann lived from 1839 to 1914. They immigrated to Canada from Essex, England in 1872. I would appreciate any info on ancestors of these people. The only link that the LDS has is a baptismal certificate for Harry, and it tells me nothing I do not already know. Thank you for anything you can tell me

Paul Dicks

I am interested in sharing any information on Jesse & Rachel Dicks (Dix) --they appear on p. 300 in the 1850 census in Parke County IN (ages 42 & 42), and on censuses in 1860 and later in Hutsonville Twp, Crawford Co. IL.
Children listed in 1850 include Angeline (age 23), Deborah (21), William (19), Peter (18), Henry (12), Robert (5), and Mary(2). They were all born in NC, except last 3 were born in IN.
In 1860 children with them in Hutsonville twp (p.435B) were Henry, Mary, Robert, and also Rachel (age 5).
Peter E. Dicks married Nancy A. Lamb 2-8-1870 (first of 3 wives), and Henry married Rhoda Ann Rubottom 10-31-1863. Peter was in Co. C. 155 IL Vol Inf in Civil War. Both Peter and Henry lived in Brightwater Twp, Benton County AR later. Robert Dix married Mary Ann Sheets 5-12-1867. (All these marriages in Crawford Co.)
I believe I am descended from William (b. 23 Sep 1831 in Guilford Co. NC) who was married in Warren Co. IL in 1856 to Eunice White. I would like very much to correspond with anyone willing to share information on this family.
Sam Dicks, 1019 West St. Emporia KS 66801 samdicks@yahoo.com

Dicks Family from Ohio to SE Iowa

Hi!

I am interested in any Dicks family from Ohio, particularly Delaware, Harrison and Tuscarawas Counties.

I also have extensive info on the Dicks family of Monroe County, Iowa, mainly the Sylvester J. and Ellen Bell Molesworth Dicks family.

I am trying to link Sylvester J. Dicks to the Joseph and Anna Smith Dicks family of the 1850 Delaware County, Ohio, Census. Joseph and Anna were married in 1826 in Harrison County, Ohio. I think they may be Sylvester's grandparents through a son William who married Caroline Steffe in 1851 in Tuscarawas County, Ohio.

Any help would be appreciated.

Sincerely,
Sue R.

Dicks family in Elwood Indiana

I am looking for information about my father's side of the family. His name is Charles Willard Dicks. He was born in Elwood Indiana on dec 23 1918. He had polio when he was 7 years old and walked with crutches all his life from that point. His parents were Charles Clifford Dicks(Cliff),and Edith Margaret nee LaRue Dicks. Cliff was born in 1886 and died in weirton in 1953. Edith was born oct 31 1890 and died in weirton on sept 21 1973. My father had two siblings: brother John Calvin Dicks b.apr 20 1911 d.may29 1955, served as a WT3 USNR in WWII,and sister Helen Jennette nee dicks Crago b.1913 d.1982. The family lived in the Elwood area until my father was about five years old, and then move to Warren Ohio for a few years. When my father was about eight or nine the family moved again to Weirton WV,and finally setteled in New Cumberland WV.
My grandfather Cliff was a steelworker as was my Dad and Uncle John(all were employed at Weirton Steel). I also had a uncle Orrin LaRue(grandma's brother) who also move out to WV and worked at Weirton steel. I wish to find out any information about my grandparents and their ancestors. I know from oral history from my grandma Dicks'family(LaRue)that four brothers came over from France. Also to further help out any reletives of my father,he was Known as Bill to the family and not Charles. I also know that my father, grandfather, and uncle were members of the Independant Order of Odd Fellows(as am I),and would like to find out if other ancesters were Odd Fellows. I can be contacted Via E-mail at kurioskaos@hotmail.com. Any information will be appreciated. He was married to Lorain Banks. She preceeded him in death. Their children that I know of are; Ruby (my mother), Jane, Eleanor, Leah, Cecile and Donald. I know there are others but I don't know who they are. I would like to find information on my family origins.

I have some letters to Lena Dicks (unrelated to me) from the very early 1900's and I am trying to find out more about this person. I believe she is the same Lena Dicks born Mar 6, 1893 and died May,1977. The letters I have appear to have been written by a girl about 11-12 at the time which would put Lena at about the same age in 1904-1906. Any information you have on her ancestry would be helpful.
