Have you found "The Dickson Letters" which give family information on these early Dicksons? THE Dickson PAPERS are a series of letters written by William Dickson in the late 1700's. I found a copy of THE Dickson PAPERS, written for publication in 1901, in the vertical files of the TN State
Library in Nashville, TN. These papers actually give the names of the family going WAY back.
James O. Carr surmises in his introduction to "The Dickson Letters" that William Dickson was the father of General Joseph Dickson of Lincoln County, "who rendered valuable service in the Revolution and was Congressman about 1800."
