I see why you are confused. My name for my files is "Diddle
confusion'. I hope you can follow this: First was John (Aduddle) Diddle b 1703 Shropshire, England and wf Jeanette Roberts. This Wm died in Merion, Philadelphia Co., Pa; they had a son, John Adam Diddle and wf Eleanor Hanse b Wales. John Adam d 8 Apr 1837 and Eleanor had died 1835. When they died their children moved in with Benjamin 'Berry' Franklin Diddle in Wirt Co and wf Sarah Offlighter. Berry s/o Jack Diddle; s/o John Adam and Eleanor; b 17 Apr 1816 Augusta Co. Va and d 7 Aug 1882. (John Adam s/o William and
Jeanette) John Adam and Jack Diddle were brothers, making Berry and those living with him in 1850 census were cousins. William 1777 Pa (may not have marrieed but some think he married a Catherine Lane) and Charity b 1786 Rockbridge, Va never married and Sarah 'Sallie' Elizabeth Diddle b 1766 Augusta Co., Va. (who was a cripple and also never married) were all brother and sisters and children of John Adam and Eleanor. Now the Benjamin Franklin Diddle living there in 1850 was my gr gr grandfather. Several researchers have searched for years as to his parents. According to family bible and family notes I have seen, it is said that BF's father was Samuel brother of John Adam Diddle. It is possible that Samuel was not married to BF's mother as there are no marriage records for him and a first wife. Samuel later married (I think about 1825) to Nancy East.
Since BF was born in 1813 he was not the child of Samuel and Nancy East-Diddle. BF was already married to his first wife, Nancy Morehead, by 1825 and had his own children. He moved in then with cousin Berry when his first wife died in giving birth to their last son.
I hope this has answered your questions clear enough to be of help to you. My line is Benjamin Franklin "Frank" Diddle b 1813 d 1890 and his second wife, Sarah Wright.
LaVonne Bradshaw lavonnebr@yahoo.com

Thanks for the information! I am fairly new to this, so I'm still sorting everything out. Sounds like you've been at it a while.

Based on what I know, I was assuming that in the 1850 census, Ben Franklin Diddle was living with his brother, Berry and Berry's wife Sarah. Because of the proximity of William, Sarah, Charita, and Albert, as well as their ages, I also assumed them to be BF's grandfather, grandmother, mother and youngest brother.

Sorry I can't offer more. I'll let you know what I find as I keep researching.

Thanks again,
katherine

That's a little clearer now. Thanks again.
Who was the father of John (Jack) Diddle?
I would also like some info on the Benjamin Franklin Diddle b. 1812/13. Who were his parents and siblings?
I also have a William Diddle b. 1777, do you know where he fits in?
I have info on the Offlighter line, although it is a little unclear about the parents of an Elizabeth C "Kate" Offlighter b. 1846 who mrd. James W Baber. I have her as possibly being the d/o John Thomas Jr. Offlighter and Mary Margaret Harris OR possibly the d/o Harrison Offlighter and Sarah A Whitesell. Do you have any more info in that area?
I look forward to your reply. Thanks, Christy

Good Sunday afternoon to you. My name is Christy, I am researching my family lines on Offlighter, Diddle and many others. I read the threads on the message boards and thought you might be able to share some of your Diddle knowledge.
Do you have any info on a Mrs. Nancy Diddle b. abt 1797 VA? She was living in Augusta Co., Va in 1840 & 1850 with her children Elizabeth, John, Franklin, Charity and William. Her daughter Charity Ann Diddle m. Elijah Gerard Balsley 1858 VA. I'd really like to know who Nancy's husband was. Do you have any info on a Berry Diddle who married a Sarah Offlighter abt 1842 VA? I'd like to know who his siblings were. His parents are supposedly John Diddle and Charity King.
If you can help me out, I'd really appreciate it. Look forward to your reply.

All these names sound familiar but they're not part of my immediate family. I'm sure if we go back far enough we would find some connection(s). I also have cousins(some through marriage) with the lastnames Galloro and Marchese among others. San Nicola Da Crissa is such a small town I'm bound to come across something. I have family there so I'll ask around and will let you know if I find out anything. Have you ever visited San Nicola?

It has been some time since your query at RootsWeb. Your interest in Flo - I have a picture of Flo Diddle that is over 100 yrs old. It was made in Newton Ks. On the back it says, "Dads cousine." Since it was in the possession of my uncle Oran Diddle it probably makes "Dad" Delno Edson Diddle. He is my Grandfather. Edson was son of Franklin Diddle who was brother of John White Diddle. They were sons of Samuel Diddle of Augusta County, VA. Samuel was a son of John Diddle. John Diddle was a Rev War soldier. I did the research and proof records for membership in the Sons of the American Revolution. John was a son of William Aduddell. I have never seen Williams name change. John Diddle's name changed after he moved to Augusta Co, VA. If this helps and you want more use passociates654@earthlink.net. John W and Franklin lived in Grayville, Ill

Dear Sir or madame,
While searching for Addidles, Diddles or A'diddles , I ran across your posted message. This is my fathers geneology and I have done extensive research, although like many I keep hitting brick walls. The Name was originally a French Heugonot name. The family fled from France in or around 1633-37 to escape persecution by CArdinal Richeliu. I do not know where in France, they came from, but they settled in Northern Ireland in and around Belfast. During the 1700's the name was spelled A'diddle. Three of my ancesters,Michael; Isabel and Adam are buried in one of the Belfast churches. These graves date from the 1700's hope this helps good luck!

Diddle-Aduddell

Barbara! If the name is Diddle or any of the twenty variations of the spelling, that is the one I am researching. Yes I have William
(Adiddle) Diddle b Jan 28, 1702 or 1703 Astly Abbott, Shropshire, England. He mrd Jennett Roberts b July 21, 1709. I know they had seven children but only have data on John (either Adam or L) Diddle. This William and Jennett came to the Philadelphia area abt 1740 and purchased land from the grnadsons of William Penn. I would love to hear from you and exchange information. I strongly believe this John (Adam or L) Diddle is the ggg grandfather I have been searching for for forty years. I feel This John may have been mrd prior to Eleanor 'Helen' Hauntz (Americanized to Hense)in Dec 1769 Pa. Please do respond.
lavonneb@ncp.net THANKS FOR ANSWERING!!!

According to my sister, our gr-gr-gr-gr grandfather was William Auddell, born circa 1715, died circa 1768, married to Letitia _____. We are descended from their son, John Adam Adiddle and his wife Eleanor Hanse (Hense, Hantz), through John and Eleanor's son David Wesley Diddle. Barbara, how are you related to them? Would like to hear from any "cousins". My email is lawre37036@aol.com.

LaVonne,
My line is descended from William Diddle/Aduddel who in 1744 was living near Philadelphia with his young family. His will was probated 1768. His 1st son was named Thomas.
Your Thomas and my William are probably related. Have you found immigration records for your Thomas?
