George Henry DIECK was a German man (a "steamer" on the MS River) who m. 13 May 1907 Miss Ida Ewing SEYMOUR d/o CAPT Franklin Monroe SEYMOUR & Augustine Palmyra CHAMPAGNE in Plaquemine Iberville Parish LA. His family origin is unknown to me at this time. He d.10 January 1941 (presumed in) New Orleans LA as that is where they were living at the time. Grand Aunt Ida never remarried. They had children: 1. Madaline (Madeleine) b. 1908 m. "Eddie" Elmire Elmess and had one child Carolyn Ann Elmess b. 1945;2. & 3. twins Margaret M. and Marjorie M. b. 1910. Marjorie d. 1911 and Margaret never married. The F. M. SEYMOUR Bible shows H.T. Dieck d. 18 May 1917...he is presumed to be a son of George Henry & Ida Ewing Seymour DIECK.There is a connection to the Mississipi River, the Ohio River and the state of Illinois for the SEYMOUR family. Captain Seymour was a "steamer" for sixteen years on Bayou Plaquemine and the Mississippi. Two German brothers from Grand Chene (Chain) Illinois, George W. and Ishmal Lee STROHM,who worked for him on his boat married two of his daughters Mamie Ellen Seymour m. 1899 and Lillian Tennessee Seymour m. 1900 respectively in PlaquemineIberville Parish LA. Ida Ewing Seymour m. George Henry Dieck was his third dau. I find no record of an earlier DIECK or DEICK family in Louisiana; I presume that George Henry DIECK came from another area upriver. At some point George Henry DIECK may have been connected in Illinois to your DIECK family from Germany. I have found one George DEICK who was a stowaway on a ship from Germany. I am currently researching the STROHM/SEYMOUR family which includes Ida Ewing Seymour & George Henry DIECK (Rosalyn Strohm Gay is my double second cousin...she is a granddaughter of Mamie E. Seymour & George W. Strohm; I am a granddaughter of Lillian T. Seymour & Ishmal L. Strohm). Lee STROHM Harrell Jacksonville Florida
