My grandfather's name is Russell Sylvanus Diefenderfer. His mother's name is Helen M. Diefenderfer. Her father's name is Sylvanus Diefenderfer, her mother's name is Maria. Sylvanus Diefenderfer's father is A. Diefenderfer.

It appears my grandfather may have been born out of wedlock then my great-grandmother married an Edelman. (The Edelman family lived next door to Sylvanus and Maria Diefenderfer).

Any help you can give in determining who "A. Diefenderfer" is would help in connecting us with the ancestry family tree.

Please email me at rdiefenderfer@windstream.net

Thank you for your help.

Gottried Diefenderfer was my 3rd gr grandfather with my line coming down through Charity to Alexander Locke. I would be interested in this project. I have the book that Dr. John Philip Diefenderfer wrote in 1983 so know something about the history.
Nancy Murdock
nancymurdock28@yahoo.com

Duebendoerfer documentation project

Several of us have begun the project of documenting the entire Duebendoerffer family tree. This includes all family lines, no matter what their current spelling, that emigrated from Bassersdorf in the 1600s-1700s.

We are collecting any relevant record on any individual - birth, baptism, death, land, tax, estate, etc., as well as appropriate photos.

The goal is to eventually place all these resources on a website where a descendant can access them without having to search individual public records, courthouses, archives and the like.

Obviously, this is a multi-year project. If you would like to contribute or be a part of this work, please e-mail me here at Ancestry with your private e-mail and I will respond back to you.

Thank you for any help you can give.

All best wishes,

Margaret Diefenderfer
Mildred Defendorf

Hi Kenneth,

I believe we're related through a common ancestor in Switzerland. Your 13th great-grandfather, Peter Diebendorffer, was born in Bassersdorf at about the same time that my 13th great Grandfather, Peter Dubendorfer, was born in the same place. Bassersdorf is about 3 miles from Dubendorf, which is where the family originated. The variant spellings were common, and they sound almost identical in German. Its very unlikely that they were not related in some way.

I'm working towards getting the entire US Dubendorfer line, with all its variants, on one family tree. Hence my inclusion of your grandmother, Mildred. Feel free to look it over and let me know if I have missed anything on your part of the tree.

Best regards,

Margaret

Thanks Brian. I also have a copy of John Philip Diefenderfer's book; my parents bought several when they did some genealogical work a number of years ago. I also have a txt file of Frank Reid Diffenderffer's book from the early 1900s. My question was actually a bit broader than that - I was wondering if anyone has created a complete family tree connecting all the different Duebendorfer lines here in the US. If not, I'm thinking of doing it myself.

Regards,

Margaret

Margaret -

Hello. I have some info (for my branch) dating back to Johann Alexander Dubenforfer (b. 1702).

Also, please take a look for the book entitled "The Dubendorfer-Diefenderfer Origins" by John Philip Diefenderfer. It was published in 1983. You can find a copy through Interlibrary Loan. It has much detail on the family from the Palentine area but mostly traces John's family branch in the US.

Hope this helps.

Brian Diefenderfer

Well Jeff, I'm a descendant of the Diffendaffer's that settled in Deer Ridge, MO. Alexander is buried there. My great grandmother Phebe Diffendaffer married Sidney Fuller. When very young, I got to meet Great Uncle "Pon" Diffendaffer. My father and my youngest brother's daughters took a road down memory lane and went to the Mt Salem Cemetery where they are buried. Have a great zip file of the trip if you're interested. I'd love any data you would be willing to share also. My niece Katie, she would always get the Diffendaffer name mixed up and call them Daffodils. They love knowing about the Diffendaffer relationship.
I believe I can help you. The pioneers that settled in NE MO Diffendaffer's are also my ancestors. In fact, they are buried in Deer Ridge, MO in the Mt. Salem Cemetery on property that was given by the Diffendaffer family. There's still a living Diffendaffer that gave me a tree that she had put together plus photos. I've yet to get the photos scanned, but, plan to do so. I'm a tenth generation Mason lineage and my father's grandmother was Phebe Diffendaffer that married Sidney Fuller. I have scanned photos of our visit there last Memorial Day.

I have several Diefenderfer's from that area in my tree, but so far no Russell. Do you happen to have any information on anyone else or births and deaths to help out? I could then see if there is a tie somewhere in the one I have.

I received a nice package of information from my grandmother this year on my ancestry. It traces back to Alexander and as well to Dübendorf. I'm working on compiling what I've received and republishing it out to a site as well as updating our tree on here.

Difenderfer and one of his son Frank both of Erie, PEnn. I would love to share these with other Diefenderfer's. I am also trying to figure out how my grandparent's are connected as we have two albums of this family.

Re: Diffenderfer by many spellings.

I am looking for information on my 3rd great grandfather Alexander Diefenderfer (later changed to Diffendaffer). The information that I have on him is that he is reportedly born in Maryland about 1786 and married a Lucinda. I am not sure of this information on location of birth. He and his wife had a son James Alexander born in Maryland 10 June 1831. I understand that Alexander Diefenderfer was a blacksmith by trade . He had been married previously, but his wife and child died in a fire when his blacksmith shop caught fire. I am trying to make the connection as to hwere this all fits with the two brothers that came over from Germany / Switzerland. any help would greatly be appreciated.
Thank you,
Sallye Johnston
