I was told growing up that my family is from Alsace-Lorraine, Germany. Some time around the American Civil War, an unknown amount of Diehl brothers immigrated to the US from Germany. The family in Germany sent the brothers over to keep them from getting caught up in the war between France and Germany over the home territory. The brothers arrived in NY, moved to Pennsylvania and then were drafted into the Union Army. We have no clue how many brothers were actually there to begin with and then how many survived. I believe I have researched back to one of the brothers, John Diehl (Deihl) b. abt 1843 and m. to Olive Diehl. Their children a plenty, but one in particular would be my great-grandfather, Harry Diehl m. to Kathryn Kiesele. One of their sons was Charles Kiesele Diehl b. Nov 1918 and m. to Dorothea Burgess (Burggie) Diehl and d. Jun 1976 is my father's father. If any of this information is similar to yours please email me.
