A friend recently discovered several items belonging to a WWII German solider, possibly a aviator/officer.
The hat has a handwritten tag with the name Diehl Obgefr or Obgefe. Handwriting isn't very clear but that is what they think it says.
A newspaper dated Aug. 2, 1944 is used to hold the hat sides up. A picture was found in the belt pouch of a burial of 3 soliders surrounded by a dozen other soliders. The burial has 3 helmets atop a mound w/ the nazi swastika outlined in rocks or some other material.
I am attempting to locate anyone with knowledge of this family name-I realize I possibly have Diehl as a first name and probably should be the surname. Possibly a return of the hat and some other items can be made if a direct family member is available.
Thanks for any help.
