German Solider Obgefr Diehl Died after 8/1944

A friend recently discovered several items belonging to a WWII German solider, possibly a aviator/officer.

The hat has a handwritten tag with the name Diehl Obgefr or Obgefe. Handwriting isn't very clear but that is what they think it says.

A newspaper dated Aug. 2, 1944 is used to hold the hat sides up. A picture was found in the belt pouch of a burial of 3 soliders surrounded by a dozen other soliders. The burial has 3 helmets atop a mound w/ the nazi swastika outlined in rocks or some other material.

I am attempting to locate anyone with knowledge of this family name-I realize I possibly have Diehl as a first name and probably should be the surname. Possibly a return of the hat and some other items can be made if a direct family member is available.

Thanks for any help.

Pennsylvania Diehls from Alsace-Lorraine, Germany

I was told growing up that my family is from Alsace-Lorraine, Germany. Some time around the American Civil War, an unknown amount of Diehl brothers immigrated to the US from Germany. The family in Germany sent the brothers over to keep them from getting caught up in the war between France and Germany over the home territory. The brothers arrived in NY, moved to Pennsylvania and then were drafted into the Union Army. We have no clue how many brothers were actually there to begin with and then how many survived. I believe I have researched back to one of the brothers, John Diehl (Deihl) b. abt 1843 and m. to Olive Diehl. Their children a plenty, but one in particular would be my great-grandfather, Harry Diehl m. to Kathryn Kiesele. One of their sons was Charles Kiesele Diehl b. Nov 1918 and m. to Dorothea Burgess (Burggie) Diehl and d. Jun 1976 is my father's father. If any of this information is similar to yours please email me.

CDiehl87@hotmail.com

Also please note a subject that I can easily identify you as; try Diehl Family Info

Thank you for you time.

I have found out that my Dale ancestors were Diehl's in Northumberland county. In the 1850 Fed Census there is a John Diehl and family. He is aged 61 born in Pa. Wife is 35 yr old Sarah (his second wife I believe). Children at home are:
George 25 PA Farmer
Mary 23 PA
Elizabeth 20 PA
Leah 17 PA
Franklin 15 PA

near him are two of his married sons Samuel 35 and William 29. Samuel is who I descend thru. He along with his brothers George, William, Henry and Jacob migrate to Iowa. Henry and Jacob migrating to Ohio first. They all are in Monroe Co., Iowa by 1860. And going by Dale in records then.

CONRAD & JOHN DIEHL - SCHWALBACH, GERMANY

Likely brothers CONRAD & JOHN DIEHL settled in Howard, Centre Co., PA in the mid-1800s. JOHN is found on an 1840 passenger list entering the US at Baltimore and listing his German hometown as Schwalbach. An anonymous undocumented (as are too many posts) post on Ancestry.com lists CONRAD DIEHL as born 17 AUG 1827 in Schwalbach. From that post and the US Census his wife was b. Baltimore, suggesting he also entered the US via that port. Seek confirmation of their relationship and origins in Schwalbach. Did other family members also emigrate to Centre Co?

The Diehls of Philadelphia

I have papers on the Diehl's of Philadelphia from "The Warren S. and Josephine I. Ely Memorial Collection" of the Genealogical Society of Pennsylvania. They start out to say:

"The German family of Diehl, of which the Diehl family of Philadelphia and vicinity is a branch, is of record on the heraldric tables at Vienna amongst the nobility of Augsburg, in which locality they had their residence for many generations. The rank of the family as nobility is very ancient; the first known ancestor being one Julius who about A.D. 500 offered his services to Hlofwig or Clevis, King of the Franks, and attained such distinction in that monarch's wars against the remnant of the Roman power, as well as against the other Teutonic nations which at that time divided Gaul......."These papers go on to describe the family crests over the generations, leading up to them arriving in America.
Nicholas Diehl was the one to come to America. He arrived in Philadelphia at about 20 years of age in 1761, in the Snow Squirrel, from Rotterdam, via Portsmouth, England. My papers go on to list his descendants. Anyone interested in this line "The Philadelphia Diehls", just e-mail me. My papers are 9 pages long (typed on legal paper).

Misty

Diehl>Kaiserslantern, Germany>Philadelphia>Connecticut>New York

I am researching the family of Carl/Karl/Charles Diehl b. 1857 Kaiserslantern, Germany d.1923 N.Y m.Katherina/e Herr b. 1858 d. 1901 NY(?). He also may have married a Mary sometime before his death in 1923.

I've kept my reseacrh to New York but recently found Carl's passport info, death cert that gave me more info into where he had lived when he immigrated in 1892 from Germany. Until now I didn't think my Diehl line was connected to any of the lines in any other state. From these new documents I find that he immigrated into Phildelphia instead of New York and spent a short time in Connecticut but moved to NYC by 1900. From 1900 until his death he lived in Queens County, LI, NY. His fathers name was Carl August Diehl.

I was wondering if anyone was researching any Diehls in these areas? Anyone have any Diehls from Kaiserslantern in their familt tree??

Arlene

Hezekiah Diehl b. abt 1840 Pennsylvania

I am searching for information on who the Hezekiah Diehl, age 20, listed in the 1860 Colerain Township, Bedford County, Pennsylvania might be...This Hezekiah is found in this census living with David Diehl, son of John and Mary Magdalena (Koontz) Diehl, and his wife, Eve Ann (Ritchey) Diehl and their children. He is listed as "farm labor". I would like to match him up with his correct parents in my records, but I cannot figure out who his parents are. I have looked at all of my regular sources and none of them show a person by this name. If there is anyone out there who can identify Hezekiah, I would appreciate your help. I wonder if this might be his middle name..but that is just a guess on my part. Thank you for your help.

In 1900 and 1918 he was living in Kato, Centre County, PA, where he was the mine foreman of the Kato Coal Company. Charles Edgar Diehl married a woman named Elizabeth, born in August, 1873 in Ohio of parents who were both born in Ohio. Charles Edgar Diehl and Elizabeth Diehl had at least four children as follows: Flora Diehl, born April, 1895, wife of Rex Smith, and a schoolteacher in Kato; Wilburt Diehl, born in December, 1896; Charles Raymond Diehl, born Oct. 31, 1899 and died in 1958 in Tonawanda, NY; and Una Diehl, wife of Thomas Morgan of Philipsburg, PA. Does anyone know the parents of Charles Edgar Diehl? Does anyone know the maiden name of Elizabeth Diehl?

Joseph, Heinrich, Catherine Diehl in VA,PA, or TN

I am searching for Diehls from Loudon Co, Virginia who migrated through Blount, Tennessee. I have just started looking into them a short while ago, so all that I have is unsubstantiated info from online family tress. They have my ancestors as:

Joseph Diehl(b. Rheinland Pfalz? d.1785 Cotocton Manor, Loudon, VA),
his son, Heinrich Tiel Diehl(b.1748 Cotocton Manor, Loudon, VA d. 1812 Blount,,TN)
his granddaughter, Catherine Tiel Diehl (b. 1770 Loudon, VA d. Martinsville, Clark, Ill 1868).

I have had people suggest that they (or part of their family) may have migrated through PA, but have nothing concrete to suggest that.

I also wonder whether the Tiel or Teel middle name may just be an alternate spelling of Diehl. The Teel name is still in use in today.

Hello. elizabeth diehl (married Leopold Klingler, children Anna Marie, Katherine and Emma Elizabeth) is my gg grandmother. I was told that her brother "henry" came to the U.S. a couple of years before she did. Elizabeth is listed as being Hessian in the census. She was born around 1849 and I was told she came to the U.S. when she was "quite young". I'm trying to find a starting point for researching this part of the family in Germany, as I can't find a town or their parents so far. I'm also trying to pin down more information on Henry.

I think he divorced his first wife. His father was either Simon Jacob or Frederick. He was born in 1769 or 1770. He died in 1852, 1854 or 1855. I have no idea where he is buried.

I descend from his daughter Lena (Magdalena) who married Henry Knecht.

Does someone know for certain anything about this Jacob. There were many Jacob Diehl's born around the same time and who die around the same time.

I am searching for the names of the parents of C. Raymond Diehl. C. Raymond was born circa 1900. In 1920 he married Elizabeth "Betty" Hoskinson. C. Raymond Diehl's father was the superintendant of the coal mine in the vanished town of Kato, Centre County, PA. C. Raymond's sister Flora, wife of Rex Smith taught school in Kato, and C. Raymond's other sister Una, wife of Thomas Morgan lived in Philipsburg, PA. Does anyone have this Diehl family in their family tree? Does anyone know the parents of C. Raymond, Flora, and Una Diehl?

My great, great, great, great, great, great-grandfather was Wilhelm Deal, born abt. 1719. His wife is unknown to me at this time, however I have all 10 of his children listed on my PAF. I have been investigating German records, and it is perhaps possible that Wilhelm's father was Jacob Diehl. I can find no other information on Jacob, but that he was born in 1700.
If anyone knows Wilhelm's wife's name, or if Jacob is of certainty, his father, PLEASE contact me via my e-mail.
I am from the Deals that were located in Catawba Co., Newton, NC. I would be happy to share my information with you!
kirkdeb98@earthlink.net
John and Dorothy (Bender) Diehl in Cedarburg Wisconsin

I am looking for more information about John (1822-1900) and Dorothy Diehl (1825-1897) while they were living in the Cedarburg Area. They were there from about 1855-1868. They had 4 children (Frederick, Elizabeth, Catherina, and Wilhelmina) when they moved to the area and one (Ida) after they moved to MN. There were 4 children that I know of that were born in the area Lotta, Adolph, Mary Ann and John Henry. There are a couple of gaps that suggest there could have been children that were born and died while in Ozaukee County. The oldest child Frederick also married in the area and had a few kids before moving to Minnesota. If you have any information on this family please let me know.

I am looking for information about my husband's great-grandfather, Charles Augustus Diehl, Sr. of Mount Clemens, Michigan. We know that he was married in 1911 to Margaret Lamade in Williamsport, PA, and following a six month honeymoon, they returned to Mount Clemens, where Mr. Diehl owned some downtown property, including a men's clothing store. ANY information on his parents, date of birth, or siblings would be helpful. M. DIEHL. They had said nothing about it until yesterday afternoon, when they called at the home of their son and demanded a supper prepared for the occasion. A phone message was then sent to their daughter, MRS. JOHNSON, who lives in the country, but she did not then have time to come. There was no ceremony pronounced but the families spent an enjoyable evening. The News hopes Mr. and Mrs. DIEHL will live celebrate many more anniversaries of a happy marriage that occurred 50 years ago
