Hey Georgette,

I found some more records from someone on the Mormon site and they had a Jacques Diemer in Duntzenheim. This may be the town. A lot of the names seem to match the brothers and sisters that we had originally. The only exception was an Emma that they had as another name starting with E.

Jay

I live in Newark California, I was born in Windsor Ontario Canada, 2/16/54. Pauline Chauvin is my birth mother and Ray Diemer is my birth father.I was adopted by a wonderful family in Michigan. I have a good life. I want nothing but information. I believe I may still have a genetic paternal aunt (Rays sister)who would be aware of my existence and willing to talk to me.I appreciate your reply. It would mean a great deal to me to hook up with my genetic roots. Thanks, Cindy Lynn Chauvin Tremblay Shipway

Boston Globe reporter searching for Jean Diemer

I'm a reporter with The Boston Globe trying to track down a series of women who worked for Consolidated Vultee (Convair) building and modifying B-24 bombers during World War II in San Diego, CA, and Tucson, AZ. One of them was named Jean Diemer.

We're doing a series of stories at the Globe about the military's Joint POW/MIA Accounting Command (JPAC), which recovers, identifies, and returns for burial the remains of missing US soldiers, sailors, and airmen from past wars. JPAC also recovers artifacts, and twice in New Guinea it has uncovered fragments of B-24 bombers that contained the signatures of women who worked at Convair. If possible, I'm trying to track down these women or their relatives to tell the stories of their service and sacrifice on the homefront during the war.

The first fragment contains the printed names of four women from Tucson:
**Mary Sasso
**Florence Valine
**Bess Flemming
**Jean Diemer

The second fragment bears six signatures from San Diego, though only four are legible. These are my best guesses at those names:
**Iris Wallace
**Doris Willison or Williamson
**Grace McNough or McNoughton
**Dorothy Henderson or Hernandez

If anyone could help me track down these women or their relatives, I would really appreciate it. I can be reached at 781-860-5560 or at emoskowitz@globe.com. Thanks for your help!

Sincerely,
Eric

Eric Moskowitz
Reporter / The Boston Globe
Phone: 781-860-5560
emoskowitz@globe.com

Do you have these people in your tree?

I am researching the surname Diemert. I have hit several brickwalls but I came across someone who had a database of Name origins.

Diemert was a baptismal name of German origin. The name was also spelt Dieman, Diem, and Diener. This would probably explain why I can not find a certain family in the passenger manifests. It is spelt wrong, which is what I assumed all along.

Does anyone have these people in your tree with a different variation of the name Diemert?

Father: Fredrick/Frederick/Friederick born 1858, Germany
Mother: Barbara born 1859, Germany --- believed she died in 1919 in Pennsylvania near Pittsburgh

Daughter: Margaret
Son: Jacob born 09 Jul 1883, Alsace-Lorraine; Germany (France)
Son: Friederick Heinerich/Fredrick Henry born 18 Feb 1887, Ratzwiller, Alsace-Lorraine, Germany (France)
Son: John born abt 1890, Merzweiler, Alsace-Lorraine; Germany (France)
Daughter: Anna born 24 Nov 1890, Alsace-Lorraine; Germany (France)
Son: Philip Christian born 14 Nov 1897, Alsace-Lorraine; Germany (France)
Daughter: Selma born 05 Oct 1899, Alsace-Lorraine; Germany (France)

They immigrated to Alleghany Co, Pennsylvania between 1902 and 1904.

We now seem to have links that our "1837" Mathias was from Wattenheim, Rheinland-Pfalz, Germany. Can also go back to his grandfather in same village to 1700. Location is near other known villages where relatives and other 1837 ship's passengers were from. Also near village, castle and national forest that I visited in 1999, all having name of Diemerstein. In process of verification and may do visit to village in April 2004. Any fellow travelers? Please note my other email address is lenschossler@aol.com, which some of you don't have. He was born in 1816 and came to America in 1830 with his father Mathias Diemer, mother Elizabeth and 5 siblings.
Catherines Father was Jacob Vain(?) and mother Elizabeth.
I have a picture of John Peter with his son, my grandfather John August and John August wife, Helena Ensman Diemer and her father Frederic Ensman. I would be glad to e-mail a copy of this picture to J.C if I can get his e-mail address.

I am seeking information on John Peter and Catherine (or Cathrine) Diemer, who were pioneer residents of Henry County, Ohio. Does anyone know if any photographs exist of John and Catherine and their family? When did they move to Henry County? Were they married in Germany or in the United States? When were they married?

I know John died in 1890, and I've gathered the following information about Catherine:

1900 Census - Pleasant Township, Henry Co., Ohio; Page 220A, Enumerated June 13, 1900

- Frank Diemer, farmer, own farm; children, Nick, Mat, Elizabeth, Fannie, Louisa, and Sylvester; mother Cathrine Diemer (81 years old, born in May 1819; cannot speak English)

Death Certificate of Cathrine Diemer, file # 23258, State of Ohio Bureau of Vital Statistics)

- Died April 21, 1910 in Palmer Township, Putnam Co., Ohio at 12 (noon?); Age, 92 yrs., 11 mo., 17 days
- Born May 4, 1817 in Germany
- Name of father: Wayne (last name?)
- Maiden name of mother: "Do Not Know"
- Cause of death: "Heart failure and old age. Died at the dinner table suddenly."
- Informant: John Zenz of Miller City, Ohio

I sincerely appreciate any information anyone can provide. Thanks!

I've been told that Henry's father was named Michael and came from Germany. Tradition has the family coming from Alsace Lorraine area. Most of this family seem to be butchers or grocery store owners. There is a small bisque statue supposedly brought from "the old country" which depicts a young boy holding a tattered umbrella over a little girl. This was about 12-14" high. Anyone else have something of this nature in their family?

The Origin of the Name DIEMER

Hello!

My Name is Peter Diemer and I was born in Rheinland-Pfalz, Germany in a little Village named Rodenbach, where most of the Inhabitants are named Diemer. This Family lives here for more than 300 Years. I searched once for the origins of our name and this is what I found:

DIEMER means "Dietmar" and this is a gothic name. The Goths called themselves "famous People": the syllable "diet" comes from "thiut" which means "Volk" (the people), the Word "Deutsch" (german) comes from gothic "thiudisc". The syllable "mar" means "Famous" and we find it also in the German Word "Märchen" (fairy tale, which is - a little famous story....)

So this is the origin of our Name.

If you got some further questions, do not hesitate to ask.

Sorry for my horrible english!

Peter Diemer

We don't really know exactly. My ancestor came to New York, without his parents and at a young age. Later in life he applied for an increased pension and recalled the name of the town as "Dumpster" in his legal papers, but he stated that he wasn't too sure of the name.

My family tree has four PERCEVAL children being born between 1895 and 1906. There were two brothers and two sisters. It maybe possible one of their offspring used PERCEVAL as a middle name. The family was mainly in New York City from 1895 to 1915 and then moved upstate to the Hudson River valley area (New York). Do you have any additional information? There was talk of a couple of uncles back in the 1880's, one may have "moved?" to California and the other to Long Island, NY from 1910 t0 1980. // JL..

Hi Joe, first off, as to my fathers birth, he was born in 1893 in Pa. and the P stands for Percifor not percevalmaybe you are not spelling it right. Also I have his original traveling papers dated from 7/9/l7 travel orders from naval air Station Rockaway Beach to travel from Naval Air Station Rockaway Beach N.Y. to Naval Air Station Halifax Nova Scotia, and I found a match in the military search I made. As for the age limit to go to war, My husband enlisted when he was 16, he lied about his age and his parents signed for him. My cousin did the same thing both did it in ww2. So you can never be sure about anything that happened back then. Young men were anxious to serve their country.I found my fathers record in the military search and also in the SSDI search. My Grandfathers name was either Edgar or John. I'm pretty sure it is Edgar Diemer and he could have been one of the four children.
