I just saw your message on the message board posted a long, long time ago. My Dies family lived in Catskill,Greene,NY and John Dies built one of the first 3 houses there which used to be called "The Old Stone Jug." I have access to a copy of a book on the History of Greene County. John Dies was a very interesting character. At least 2 of his sons were Loyalists and went to Canada and served the British during the Revolution.
The old house was demolished about 1900 I believe. My ancestor, Matthew Dies, built the first sawmill in Gilboa. I would bet since you live in that area you are probably a descendant of this family. I would be interested in helping you trace your family and try to connect with mine if interested.
