Frank L Dietrich/ Tonawanda, NY

I am looking for information concerning my gg-grandfather Frank L. Dietrich (1864-sometime after 1930) I know he was born in Germany, perhaps near Berlin. His wife was named Minnie C Dunker, and they resided only a few houses away from her parents and family. [Grove st, Tonawanda]

I know that he became reasonably successful, Eventually becoming VP of Tonawanda Underwriters.

About his family:
At least one sister: Mrs. Otto Ruthe of Berlin, whose only son was a German soldier (Paul) killed in WWI.

He had several Children:

Fred C Dietrich
1884 – (m. Clara L ? )

Mary Dietrich (m. Charles Metzloff)
1889 – 1978

Laura W Dietrich (m. George Summers)
1894 – 1981

Clarence Frank Edward Dietrich
1897 – 1959 {m. Loretta Strassel, my g-grandmother)

Alfred F Dietrich (m. Mildred A. ?)
1903 – 1981

It is possible he is a relation to former Tonawanda Chief of Police Charles Dietrich [Diedrich]. I have 2 reasons to believe this, besides the names: Frank was a pallbearer at Charles' funeral; Charles' daughter Ada was an attendant [bridesmaid] at Laura's wedding.

I cannot, currently prove their relationship, but I believe them to be no closer than first cousins.

If anyone has information that could connect them, or just add'l information in general(his sister's given name, his parents names, etc. ), I would greatly appreciate it.

I have much more info; largely concerning the descendants of Frank.

I'm looking for Clarance Dietrich Sr. Or more accurately I'm looking for his parents.

What I know: He was born in 1897. He Married Loretta Strassel (also born 1897) (I found her parents, and About 8 generations worth of great grandparents)

The Census Misspelled his last name as Deitrich. And says his father was from Germany. His WWI draft registration card States his nearest Kin was Frank L Dietrich, and that Frank was also his employer. I cannot find any evidence that Frank was a father, brother, uncle or other relation.

Nor have I been able to prove that Frank and Clarence were members of the same household. (If you can help me with that question, I would be grateful).

Clarence Sr had 4 children, Donald, Stewart, Clarance Jr and Sue.

Clarence Jr married Betty Donner, and they Adopted 2 children, Michael (My father), And Patricia, Who married Joesph Burngasser, they had 3 kids, Joseph Jr., Mary Kate, and Michael. Michael recently had a child.

Stuart moved to Germany, and married Sonja (Unknown maiden name)

This part is a bit uncertian:
Donald married Marge and had at least 3 children. Danny, David and Doug.

Sue married a Shoenfeldt (FIRST name uncertian), she had 4 children: Carol, Jane, Kyle (a FEmale), and Keith.

Searching for information on Ernest Dietrich, b. 1877 - he was found guilty of bigamy around 1920. First wife was Emma and had five children - lived in Ottawa County. Searching for info on second wife and children - not certain of their names, but I think they were in Sandusky (Erie County). Also, does anyway know where I might find court records from that time period (1920)? I found an Ernest and Louise Dietrich in the 1930 census living in Lucas County, but not sure if it's the same one, although he is listed as living in Toledo in a couple of his sibling's obits. Thanks for any help!

It is believed he came over from Germany in 1950 with at least one older brother. I believe his brother's name was William and this also may have been his father's name. He married Anna/Annie Bridges in 1866, she was born in 1844 in Kentucky and died in 1927 in Texas. I would like if anyone could give me information on any of these people and help me figure out why he came to America and who he came with. Thanks

My brother-in-law (RICHARD DIETRICH TELLS ME THE TWO FAMILIES WHERE STILL IN TOUCH UP TO 1920S)

Can anyone help please

She was raised in Nebraska and moved to Moses Lake in the early 1950s with her husband Don and daughter Deena, where she worked as a dental assistant and then later in real estate. In 1968 she moved with her family to San Jose, Calif. and later to Aptos, where she was co-owner and broker for Aptos Associates Realtors until she retired.

Arline's favorite pastime was cruising the U.S. in the family motorhome. She was a great cook and hostess, and was good at whatever she set her mind to. During the course of the past nine months her emphysema kept her pretty much housebound. With assistance from hospice, she was able to remain at home until her fall a week ago when she broke her hip and shoulder. These complications, in addition to her emphysema, were too much for her frail body.

In lieu of flowers, the family would request a donation be made to hospice, an organization providing wonderful care to families dealing with terminal illness. Donations can be sent to Hospice Caring Project in memory of Arline Dietrich, 940 Disc Drive, Scotts Valley, CA 95066.
Dietrich Cemetery Lot in Pittsburgh, Deed dated 1881

I have some Dietrich ancestors in Pittsburgh. The only one I know by name is Henry Dietrich who bought a cemetery plot at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery on Mt. Oliver (formerly Lower St. Clair region, now known as the South Side). The cemetery deed is dated 18 April, 1881. I've been to the cemetery, but there are no Dietrich headstones in the deeded lot. Instead I found surnames of Dietrich descendants and their allied families (STOERKEL, FROELICH, SCHOLLENBERGER). I have written to the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Pgh for burial data for this lot. There are probably several unmarked burials, and I am curious about the names and dates. I think there will also be FORGER and DIETRICH burials here. Will be happy to share what I know about the Dietrich and allied families in exchange for information about your Dietrichs in Pgh.

Looking for connections to Wilhilma Adelina Dietrich, Posen, Prussia -> MN

Hi. Wilhilma Adelina Dietrich is my Great Grandmother who was
born in Posen (Prussia?) and immigrated to the US and eventually
settled in Holyoke, MN with her husband Herman Fredrick.

I believer her father's name was "Deterick" but that sounds too much
like "Dietrich" to me which means that the death certificate for
which I have a copy might just have listed an Americanization
of his last name. (or maybe his first name really was Deterick).

Her sons were Fritz H. and Ervin R., and her daughter was Gertrude M. -- all surname Fredrick.

Wilhilma was born January 17, 1882, died June 27, 1941 in
Holyoke, MN. She was naturalized in 1905.

Thanks in advance,

--Tim Fredrick (fredrick@ucar.edu)

HEINRICH DIETRICH: Hessen, Germany>Etna, Allegheny Co., PA

Looking for descendants or extended family members of HEINRICH DIETRICH (Diderich), son of Johann Claus Dietrich and Elizabeth geb. Rock, b.1828 in Hitzerod, Amt. Abderode in Kurhessen, Germany. Heinrich emigrated to Etna, Allegheny Co., PA in the 1840's along with many relatives and other Evangelical (Protestant) German families from Hessen. In 1856 he married my g g grandmother, ANNA MARGARETHA SPERBER BRILL, a widow with a baby, my g grandfather Ernst Heinrich Brill, whom he raised. Heinrich and Anna had at least 6 other children including Henry, Marie, Susan, Louis and Emma Dietrich born between 1858 and 1869, my g grandfather's half-sibs. In 1870 Heinrich was working as a "puddler" in a steel mill and was a member of The Independant German United Evangelical Church Of Etna. Many members of this family are buried in the Etna Cemetery. Ernest H. Brill lived his entire life in Etna and Sharpsburg, Allegheny County, PA, and, possibly, at least the first American born generation of this Dietrich family did so, as well. Any help appreciated.

Dietrich Genealogy

Hi Jennifer

I have recently started on my husband's side of our genealogy and it has proven to be quite a chore. His Grand-father was Charles Augustus Dietrich and I'm about 90% sure that his great-grandfather had the same name. I do know that the grand-father was born in 1864 and died 1954. He is buried in Manchester, Ohio (I have a picture of his grave). During his married life he would appear and disappear at various times making it difficult to keep track of him. Him and his wife are not buried together. She was Myrtle Cowan Dietrich. She was born in 1880 and died n 1973. I have their married license and also her death certificate, but cannot find any info on him, as to death certificate or social security records. Any help you have would be great.

Thanks

Ann

John Dietrich's father was also named John and was born in 1892. John's mother was Anna Dienesch born in 1895. John's paternal grandmother was Susanna Dietrich born in 1876. I don't know her maiden name. My husband's paternal grandmother was Susanne Rehner born in 1927. Her parents were John Rehner born in 1903 and Susanna Lepprich or Leprich born in 1907. All these people were born in Birk and came to Canada in the 1920s and 1930s. If anyone has any info about this family from their days in Birk, let me know please.

My Dietrichs are from Alsace (Haut Rhin) France:

My great great great grandfather Joseph Offner married Anna Maria Dietrich 7/18/1808 in Goldbach.
Anna Maria was born 4/10/1780 in Willer.
Her parents were Nicholas Dietrich (born 5/13/1740 in Willer) and Catherine Horny (born 1/11/1748 or 1749 in Willer).
Nicholas' parents were Joannes Theobald Dietrich, and Magdalena Walter. I haven't found birthdates for them, but I am told they married in Willer on 11/6/1724.

I got most of this from a distant cousin's research I found posted in the World Family Tree on genealogy.com. I am hoping to look them all up myself to check dates and find more information.

Dietrich in Nebraska

I'm looking for information and ancestry for an Amanda Dietrich (not sure of spelling of her last name) who was born in Nebraska in 1904. We think she came from the vicinity of Norfolk, NE. She married Russell B. Welch about 1925, and they lived in Woonsocket, SD, then Big Timber, MT. Russell died in 1939 and apparently was buried near Norfolk, NE. Amanda remarried to a Mr. Rutledge. She died in Montana in 1988.

To The Editor of the Sacramento Bee- Sir: I learned through the Constable here, that the party that was fould dead between Sacramento and Davisvlle was discharged from the Sacramento Couthy Hospital on the way from Sacramento to San Francisco, and in trying to get out of the way of some train on a trestle, fell and bruised himself considerably. He came to Davisville, found Judge Ludington and asked for assistance. Luddington gave him supper, bed and breakfast; he was here on Sunday evening. I do not know how he got down to where he was when he was found. He was German and could not speak very plainly, and said he had been out of the hospital for about four weeks. Dr. Noble sad the man was named Caspar Dietrich.

Sacramento Bee, 7/5/1893
