I am a descendant of Wilheim Emanuel Dietrich. I was wondering if I could get a copy of the baptism record of Jost Dietrich and a copy of the Diploma of Novility. If you want I would gladly pay if it isn't too expensive or please tell me how to obtain these records. Icome from Wilheins son Elias from his first wife I think. My relatives settled in Northampton County PA. My gg grandfather was Alfred F. Dietrich son of Elias. My Elias died in Towanda,PA and is buried there with his wife Mary Alice Elizabeth Fretz. I have Alfred's civil war records. Thanks for any help. gjcrnc

Re: Dietrich/Dietrick – Emanuel, Franklin, John -> Luzerne County, PA

According to my notes, Emanuel C. Dietrich (7 Feb 1859 - 14 Aug 1880) is buried in the Old Stair Cemetery, Stairville, Dorrance Twp., Luzerne Co., PA. Sarah (nee Stair) is also buried in the Stairville Cemetery.

I have the parents of Emanuel as David Dietrich (June 1827 - 26 May 1899) and Elizabeth Zeiser (b. 16 Jun 1832). David's second wife was Rachel Rinehimer (abt 1843 - 31 May 1898). You can find Emanuel listed with his father in the following census data:

David Detrick, 1860 census for Union Twp., Luzerne Co., PA
David Deiterick, 1870 census for Dorrance, Luzerne Co., PA

Emanuel's father did have a brother John. John (10 Dec 1822 - 25 Sept 1889) is buried in the Pine Hill Cemetery, Shickshinny, Luzerne Co., PA. John was married to Louisa Yohe (8 Jan 1832 - 26 Jan 1914). Louisa is also buried in the Pine Hill Cemetery.

The parents of David and John were Johannes Dietrich (9 Jan 1782 - aft 11 Jun 1860) and Anna Maria Fannichefs (11 May 1785 - 25 Sept 1849). Both Johannes and Anna Maria are buried in the old cemetery near Wapwallopen, Luzerne Co., PA. Some researchers have reported Anna Maria's last name as "Backus." I have a baptism certificate for one of their children that clearly reports her surname as "Fannichefs."

The parents of Johannes Dietrich were Johann Jacob Dietrich (4 Sept 1749 - 9 Nov 1819) and Maria Elizabeth Minier (31 Mar 1751 - 9 Dec 1842). Both are buried in the Christ Church Cemetery, Centerville, Upper Mt. Bethel Twp., Northampton Co., PA.

The parents of Johann Jacob Dietrich were Elias Dietrich (1713 - 1 Nov 1759) and his second wife Anna Elizabeth Stroud (d. 24 Aug 1776).

Elias Dietrich landed in Philadelphia in December 1744 on the ship Muscliffe Galley. Elias signed his name on the Oath of Abjuration on 22 Dec 1744 as "Elias Dieterich."

I am a descendant of Elias and his first wife Sara. Sara died in Germany in 1743 and shortly thereafter Elias emigrated to North America.

The father of Elias was Wilhelm Emanuel. Wilhelm's parents were Johann Peter Dietrich & Sophia Ofener. Johann Peter's parents were Johann Jost Dietrich & Anna Maria Stunz. Johann Jost's parents were Jost Dietrich & Elisabeth Stolzenbach.

I have the church record recording the baptism of Johann Jost Dietrich (1638). I also have a copy of the Diploma of Nobility that was granted to Johann Peter and his two sons, Wilhelm Emanuel and Felix Ernst, on 15 October 1700 at Castle Hirschingen.

I hope this helps.

Lester

I’m looking for any information on Emanuel Dietrich (b: abt 1860 d: abt 1880) and his ancestors. Emanuel was married to Sarah Jane Stair and they had one child Ada May Dietrich before he died. I’ve been told that Emanuel’s father was Franklin and that he may have had a brother, John. Other than the 1880 census data on Emanuel and Sarah that puts them in Luzerne Co, Pa, I can find nothing on the ancestors.

DIETRICK & DEITRICK in Henry county Ohio

I'm looking for info on both Dietrick and Deitrick families in Henry county Ohio, 1870s onward. One of my Laubenthal grand-aunts married a Mathias Dietrick, and one of their daughters married a Cletus Deitrick. I always heard it referred to as "a German Dietrick marrying a French Deitrick". There are at least 4 other spellings for D??tric? in the county. In the 1870 census, some English enumerator even spelled it 'Deitrig'.

If this hits any cousins out there, please let me know.

Kenneth Thompson (kth0mpsn at yahoo dot com)
Moline Acres (north StLouis County) MO

Dear Les,

Thank you for your informative post. I checked John's funeral card (attached) and can confirm that he was born in 1822, not 1838.

You mention 4 generations of Dietricks. Is Elias the ggfather of John?

You indicated Elias immigrated in 1744? Do you know where he came from? Do you have documentation you would share?

Thanks so much for responding to our posts. Together with Kathleen's abundant info, a much more complete picture is emerging of the Dietrick family's genealogy.

Cordially,

Charles

Charles Dietrick,
Cambridge, MA

Somewhere along the line the army switched the two names and it wasnt until 1938 when Grandpa went to claim his bonus from WWI (yes, it took that long!) that he discovered the mistake. He had to have his mother go with him the county recorders office where they changed his name legally to Harold Charles so he could receive his bonus.

So there it is! I also have a great photo of dad at 15 with his first car, and Austin he paid 20 dollars for! he still has the $3.80 registration receipt from 1941!

Take Care

Kathi (Dietrick) Carney

Hello again Charles,

Who are your parents? How do you fit in the Dietrick clan? I know I met your Uncle Don, whom my father still refers to as "Donald Dean", and his family back in the early seventies. We have visited Wichita several times and my Aunt Jane (Dietrick) Rice still lives there.
I have visited Cowtown! Yay!

My dad's birthday is Sunday and we are all getting together so I will get more information then. One thing I did share with him was the fact that Charles Edward wrote that Harold Charles Dietrick (my grandpa) died young as a result of bring gassed in WWI.
If there is any more information about this we would love to know about it. Dad always said "It was like dad knew his time was coming, he got everything in order two weeks before he died"

So we may have cleared up a mystery in the Dietrick family!
It certainly has made quite an impression on all of us!!

I can't believe how much Charles Edward resembles my dad as a young man, the family resemblance is amazing! Same hariline!!!

At any rate, thanks again and I will get back to you with more info as I receive it!

Kathi (Dietrick) Carney

I'm looking forward to the details from your dad. My uncle Don also remembers fondly the donuts for sale Charles and Sarah used to make in their basement before dawn most days.

Hi Charles

I would love to have info on Charles Parker, my dad remembers the donuts his grandma and grandpa made. I have almost no other information on them.

His father was Harold Charles Dietrick, he changed his name from Charles Harold due to a clerical error I forget where. I'll ask dad and let you know.

I live in Northern California as do my dad Harold and my brother James. I am trying to find any information on the Dietrick family that I can, any information will be most appreciated!

Very nice to hear from you!!!

California. We're all from Kansas. My dad grew up in Winfield. Rex and I grew up in Wichita and Salina.

I understood that Charles Parker Dietrick son's name was Harold Charles rather than Charles Harold. Are you sure?

Cheers,

Charles

Please tell us more about your FREAS family: where did they live, and when did they live?

I am beginning on John FREAS Jr. & Sarah Amelia HIDLEY, both of Briar Creek Township, Columbia Co, Pennsylvania. Both were born about 1800. Their son John Andrew was born in 1824. He married Susannah CAMPBELL and lived in Ringgold Twp, Jefferson Co, PA.

Does anyone know these people? Thanks!
Marsha Allen
Tempe, AZ
