George Digby - Born in Ireland 1844 (Parents?)

I know a few of you are looking for more info on this guy. He was born Dublin and was of english descent. His father was posted there to work in post office. He subsequently immigrated to Canada and was harness maker and hotel owner. He was a mason as was his son William Wilson Digby. He later immigrated to Buffalo/Dunkirk, New York. He is buried in Forest Lawn Cemetery. I'm looking for his parents and have hit a road block. I have ordered his genealogical records from the cemetery. I will update my profile if new info comes to light. Does anyone know more?

He also had Henry Digby witness his wedding according to our bible and served the 34th Battalion with Henry Digby. We don't know if its a brother or a friend
Is William Thomas a brother of Walter Warren Digby, who emmigrated in 1912? Walter Warren's family has for decades, believed Thomas died during the war years! Anyway, there were, I think, 6 or 8 siblings...? Not all came to America; one supposedly went to Union of So Africa or India.

Any info appreciated!
Jeanette

Blanche Ada and Walter Warren are my great-grandparents. I have a copy of their marriage certificate. Everyone came over together - I even have the Windsor chair that MaryAnn Green Kibbler insisted on bringing with her! The infant son was is Walter JOHN - my grandfather, b)1911. In my Dad's formative years, he was raised by Mary Ann & remembers her running out of the house every time a plane flew overhead :-) (she lived to over 100).
Walter warren did NOT die "in the war"; he died in 1960 in New Haven, CT. One of the sisters married a Van Wycke - as in the Van Wycke Expressway in NYC.
Family history says something about a train wreck separating them from a Digby brother, Thomas. I'd love to learn more.....

PLEASE feel free - anyone - to contact me outside this forum! I have all info my grandfather could provide prior to his death.
DiggerJL@yahoo.com
Jeanette Ligouri (nee Digby)
Atkinson, New Hampshire
I believe the Digby family you mention is related to the BORON family I am looking for.

In the 1880 Census, Wheeling, Ohio County, WV, James W. H. Boron and wife, Mary A. Boron, 28, have daughters, Bessie, Bertha and Gracie and a son Weston. Also in the home is GEORGE DIGBY, 22, Brother-in-law, who is probably the brother of Mary. George was a clerk in a store. George and Mary were both born PA and their parents born England.

I am actually looking for BERTHA BORON. I have a photo that was taken of her in 1893 in St. Louis. She had sent it to a childhood friend from Wheeling who had moved to Minnesota. Did Bertha marry?

Hi Ken - my name is Keith Walker and I live in Brentwood Essex which is about 12 miles from Great Leighs - my Mum's ashes are buried along with my Nan's ashes in my Great Grandad's and Grandma's grave at Terling Essex which is very close to Great Leighs - my Mum was born in Great Leighs and my Gt Grandad was William Digby and Gt Gran was Sarah Digby. William was farm Director for Lord Rayleigh who's ancestral home Terling Place is just behind the church at Terling - my Gt Grandad's grave is in the corner of the graveyard with The graves of the Baron Rayleigh's and the Honorable Strutt graves ! the reason for this and why my mums and Nans ashes are buried there also is because he held such a a respected position with the Lord. In fact my Gt grandad was given Ridley Hall in Terling as his residence by Lord Rayleigh ! William Digby was born in Great Leighs so I guess you and I must be distant relations ! If you need any further info I have plenty I can help with to give you some background - you can call me on my work number in the UK if you wish on 01277 374254 (UK) - Im not sure what code you would need to use to get through to the UK but you may know that anyway - look forward to hearing from you - you can mail me if you want on keith1954@live.co.uk - all the best Keith.

Hi there,

I'm a great granddaughter of these two.
Albert and Ethel were married 15th March 1911 in Te Aroha - Ida Gladys Digby and John Charles Angus were witnesses
At the time Albert was aged 24 and Ethel aged 20 both living in the Te Aroha/Karangahake areas.
Albert was born in Roxburgh to John Stringer and Mary Ann Lambert - hope this is correct
Ethel was born in NSW Australia.
A decree Absolute/divorce was granted 25th June 1925
Ethel then remarried a John Russell. Died in Takapuna, Akl 16/12/1965. On her death cert it had her married to a Bert Stringer when she was 18, even through marriage cert has 20 - guess they lied as she was pregnant at the time they married - my grandmother who was then given/adopted out and then returned - no one has been able to find out what.
The son Lenoard whoever, died with no issue. Served in the war and is buried in Glenfield Akl.
Rosaline how we knew to be spelt, died 13yrs ago, married twice as well. 1st married resulting in 12 children, 9 currenlty still living - you have lots of relatives :)
My of my cousins and I are looking at getting onto this side of the family tree, so would love to keep in touch etc.
Any information on Albert and the rest of the family, I'd love to hear about.
My home email is cassin@clear.net.nz
Hello,

I came across your post on the Ancestry website from over 10 years ago when you were 16 years old and about to enter the Royal Navy and supplied your email address for any Digby's out there to contact you. I'm currently researching and building my family tree and found your post in one of my tireless searches and thought I'd drop a line to say "Hello". While I haven't found any Naval past as of yet my searches keep finding stuff and you never know?

I'm Alan Digby in Niagara Falls, Ontario. Canada (34 yrs old). My family came from the Hammersmith, London area in the early 1950's. The furthest I've gone back is 1795 in Branton, Norfolk, England.

Maybe a distant connection? I'll let you know of any interesting finds. It's been a pleasure.

Take Care,

Alan Digby
adigby@cogeco.ca

Hi Sarah-Jane,
me again lol,,,,just a thought, on the marriage certificate between Ethel and Albert does it state their place of birth or parents names etc.?? I know they do in Australia which makes it much easier to trace but I also know in the UK they don't put much on their certificates. Just an idea because if you have that information on their certificate of marriage or any subsequent certificates (child's birth cert etc) then you will have a rough idea of where to start your search.

good luck once again

Karen

Hi Sarah-Jane,
Have you tried searching records in Australia and England?? Ethel may have been born elsewhere and migrated to New Zealand. I have Digby family here in Australia who came out from England but that was back in the 1860's. Many still migrate out here for various reasons. Try checking shipping records to see if you can find her listed on ships from Australia or England as most Digby's originated from England.
Good luck, hope this is of some help.
Karen

Does anyone have any information on Ethel Grace Digby. She married my great great grandmothers brother Albert Stringer in New Zealand in 1911.

In 1931 Albert married Jessie Camelia Lewis however, I can find no record of Ethel. I searched New Zealand Births, Deaths and Marriages - I have found a record of Albert and Ethel marrying but no record of her being born in NZ or dying here. Its possible she remarried and died under that name but I also cannot find any record of her remarrying.

I was also told that Albert had two children - I am not sure whether these were with Ethel or Jessie but find no mention of them in Albert or Jessies death notice in the Otago Daily Times newspaper.

Any information would be interesting to hear as it's very intriguing.

Thanks
Sarah-Jane

Will do and thanks, although I didn't know we had relo's in NSW as Daniel's son Frederick (my g.g.grandfather) is our connection to the family and as far as we understood he was the only one of his family to come out to Australia although there is mention of him accompanying an Aunt and cousin here which is why he did the trip - never intending to settle - so maybe that Aunt was the connection as I have not been able to find anything much on her or her family and from the info I have she was not a Digby unless it was her maiden name!!! Have to delve deeper into that one hmmmmm interestinger, and interestinger lol

Karen

Also, if you check the LDS site, you can get 1881 census records for Ontario Canada, http://www.familysearch.org/

I also use Automated Geneology for the Canadian Census records 1901 and 1911 which provides location and birth dates

I do not think I am related, I am researching people from the Uxbridge Pickering area as well

Hi, I am unsure where Albert Digby is in my tree. I do have a Bert/Bertie Digby born 1902, but his father was William Digby born 1870.

I am the GGGG grandaughter of James Digby born 1811 in Wandsworth, his wife being Elizabeth Gilbert 1816.

Hope this helps.
