HUBER HEIGHTS, Ohio – Ernest “Son,” Diggins, 77, died unexpectedly at his home on Saturday, Dec. 11, 2010.
Ernest lived and worked for several years in Youngstown, Ohio before moving to Huber Heights, Ohio in 1984.
He was born on Nov. 12, 1933, in Bessemer, Alabama (Jefferson County) to Frank and Ethel Diggins.
After graduating from high school, he served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Ernest retired from ABF Freight Systems, Inc. in 1997, after more than 25 years with the company.
He leaves behind to mourn him, the love of his life, his devoted wife, Gussie; sisters, Jessie Duncan of Youngstown, Ohio and Lois Gilmore of Birmingham, Alabama; grandchildren, Angelique Clinkscale and Ernest (Nicole) Clinkscale, both of Columbus, Ohio; daughter-in-law, Carol Clinkscale of Youngstown; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
Ernest was preceded in death by parents, Frank and Ethel Diggins; brother, Albert Diggins and sister, Aris Paige, all of Bessemer, Alabama; sisters, Louella Fields and Juanita Franklin; mother-in-law, Johnnie Mae Graham; and stepson, Harold Clinkscale, all of Youngstown, Ohio.
His beloved sister, Rosie Wilson of Bessemer, Alabama joined him in Heaven on Tuesday, Dec. 14, 2010.
Ernest enjoyed spending time with his family, discussing politics and watching sports. He spent many enjoyable afternoons watching local Little League softball games. Ernest was known as a good neighbor who would lend a hand to family and friends in need.
Son will be deeply missed by family and friends.
Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2010, at noon at Dayton National Cemetery, Dayton, Ohio.
