I'm looking to solve a family mystery. Who were the parents of Sarah Ann Diggs b.September 09, 1834, in NC, married John Peter Yates September 21, 1850, in Richmond Co., NC, d. October 30, 1890 in Richmond Co., NC (buried in Mizpah cemetery).

Sarah and John Peter's children were:
1. Lucy Catherine Yates Dawkins b 1851
2/3. Twins James D. and O.D. Yates b 1853
4. William Edward? Yates b.1855
5. John Wesley Yates b. 1857 (my line)
6. Isaac Douglas Yates b 1860
7. Richmond A. Yates b 1862
8. and possibly a Jack D. Yates b. abt 1860

Sarah Ann was living with Hyam Pratt and Sarah McRae Pratt in 1850 census. Sarah's McRae's sister Catherine McRae Diggs, had died before May 1841. Catherine was married to Dudley Diggs. According to Catherine father's will (Daniel McRae), Catherine and Dudley had 4 known children including daughters named Lucy and Margaret (plus Dudly and Celia).

In 1860 census Sarah Ann Diggs Yates and her husband John lived next to a Marcus Cole and Margaret Diggs Cole. Sarah and Margaret are both listed as age 25.

My theory is that Sarah Ann Diggs was the daughter of Dudley Diggs and Catherine McRae. She is not listed in Daniel (Red) McRae's will but there are a lot of coincidences to dismiss. Sarah Ann's first born just happend to be named Lucy Catherine (Dudley's 1st wife and daughter with 2nd wife Catherine were named Lucy), Sarah Ann just happened to live with dead Catherine's sister in 1850. Sarah Ann just happened to live next to a Margaret Diggs (name of one of Catherine and Dudley's daughters).

Can anyone shed light on the parents of Sarah Ann Diggs? Or parents of John Peter Yates?
