YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Maggie Maria Mitchell, 89, a loving mother, was called home on Nov. 14, 2011.
Ms. Mitchell was born on April 28, 1922, in Twinsburg, W.Va. as the second child of the late Samuel William Harper and Mary Diggs.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John R. Mitchell; a brother, Leon; a daughter, Senora; and a son, James.
Ms. Mitchell graduated from Ben’s Fashion Center with a certificate in tailoring, specializing in men’s and women’s clothing.
She was a member of the Bethel Church of God in Christ and served for many years as assistant mother of its Mother’s Board and as a church mother at the Abundant Love Outreach Ministries Inc., where she helped provide for the less fortunate residents of the Youngstown community by collecting and distributing food, clothing and toys.
Ms. Mitchell was active in her community and was president of the Block Watch Club of Fairview Avenue. She was employed in the Dietary Department of St. Elizabeth’s Hospital and served as a supervisor at Goodwill Industries, from where she retired in 1984.
Ms. Mitchell is survived by her children, a daughter, Mary (Bishop James Kitchen) of Youngstown; sons Curtiss Ariah Minnifield Sr. (Cedelia) of California, Eugene Minnifield Sr. (Kimberley) of Ohio and Byron Keith Mitchell (Virginia) of Virginia; her adopted daughter, Julie Buggs of Ohio; two sisters, Thelma Ingram of New Jersey and Katherine Tony of Tennessee; 14 grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Services will be held Friday, Nov. 18, at 11 a.m. at the Abundant Love Outreach Ministries Incs., at 93 E. Myrtle Ave.
