William George Dike

I am looking for information about the parents of William George Dike, born December 31, 1809 in Henry county, Kentucky. William married Susan Teeters and had 5 children: Joseph, Reason, William, Samuel Clarkston, and Franklin. Since Kentucky did not keep birth records until 1852 (William's birthdate came from the 1810 census) I am at a standstill. Help?!

Dike--Dyke Owen ATTN; FRANCIS DIKE

This is for Francis Dike. I have new info for your family tree. #l is an error in my first letter to you. Harry Walton Dyke died in 1958 not 1978. Now the big mystery I cannot solve. RE: Owen Bingley Dyke. Clara Wands was definatly his first wife. Have no idea what happened to her. Have found in 1910 Federal Census Owen B. Dyke and owen B. Dyke Jr. who was born 1907. Ther was no record of Clara there and I have not found anything else on Jr. I have reconnected with a cousin Jerald Mc Cracken who Owen lived with until his death. He knew nothing about Clara Wands. He has all documents on our grandmother as being Mable Johnston who was born 4/4/1889 and died on Nov. 7,1918. I have copy of death certificate. They were married in 1912. Jerry told me that all he knows of Owens early years is that sometime around 1908 he left the area and went to Michigan. He says Owen changed his name and stayed in Mich for 3 or 4 years. He does not know why he did this. There have been family rumors for years that he was a member of the KKK in NY state but all there activities were about the Catholic religion. Jerry said this is a fact and not a rumor. so maybe his exile had something to do with this bad activity. I have more additions that were recently given to me and will get them to you at a later date. want to make corrections on what you have first. If you ever have the opportunity to make copies of the tree will you please let me know. I have 2 great great grandchildren now and they are the l4th generation since the first Anthony and would love to have copies for them.Thjanks again the other Frances
Wands Family Elmira NY

Looking for any information on the Wands family in Elmira, Chemung Co., NY. This is what I have so far:

Edith Grace Wands b. 1885 d. Feb. 1915 in Avoca NY. M. William R. Austin. Father of Edith was William Burgess Wands. I believe he is buried in Bath National Cemetery, Bath NY and that his wife was Estella. The last name I was given for her was De Voe but this may not be accurate. There were 4 brothers, Garrand, Sherman, Sheridan and Phillip and a sister Clara. I was told one of the brothers went to Philidelphia, PA and another to Waterbury CT. William B., Estella, Clara, Garrand and Phillip were listed in a 1923 Elmira NY Directory. There appears to have been more then one Clara, possibly an aunt that married and lived in Canada. Not sure if she was on the paternal or maternal side of the family. I've also been told that Garrand lived in E. Rochester, NY and drove an ice truck and had at least one daughter, Martha who married Paul Fatarusso. This may have been a second marriage for her. There was a Charles Wands that died about 1982 in Elmira NY that I believe to be a relation, cousin or nephew to Edith. In 2000 a Phillip Wands left a message on one of the boards. He appeared to be inquiring about the same family. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The History Of Belmont & Jefferson Counties, Ohio
author - J. A. Caldwell
pub. in - 1880
page - 440

NATHANIEL DIKE, a cultured gentleman of the old school, was born in Beverly, Vermont, about A.D. 1790 ; graduated at Yale College, and came to Steubenville, Ohio in 1816. He read law in the office of John M. Goodenow and was admitted to the bar, but practiced law but a short time, when he embarked on the dry goods business , at that time offering the inducements of a very profitable trade. He was successful in this for a number of years, and later in life engaged successively in the wool and wholesale grocery business, occupying the Andrews building near the court house. For a number of years he occupied the position of Associate Judge of the Common Pleas, along with Wilson and McDonald, and was president of the council when the population of the town numbered only 3,300. He was also a representative in the forty-first General Assembly of Ohio, which convened December 5, 1842. In November 1819, he was married to Miss Anna, daughter of George Woods of Bedford, Pa., and a grand-daughter of Dr. John McDowell, of Steubenville, Ohio. He died in April, 1867.

I am not related, just hope it helps.

Thanks, Pam.

Hi...we are the Dorset Dikes..(England) most of the Dikes in these parts are spelled with a 'y' ....Are there any more ditchdwellers out there? The 'y' Dikes had a tannery business in Milborne Port Somerset whilst the Dorset 'i' Dikes have been in the grocery, provisions business in Stalbridge, Portsmouth,..possibly Crewkerne for many years...I have married into the family and have two sons..Oliver and Benjamin plus two daughters to carry on the name...The girls don't like it because of the names' Lesbian connotations and intend to lose it....Anyway..... contact me at gameseed 2000 @yahoo.co.uk and we'll discuss...Happy Easter....A.J.D....P.S. My husband John is a violin restorer in Sherborne Dorset

I'm searching for a lost great-grand-uncle. Thomas DIKE (born England 1841) emigrated around 1860 and has been traced via Ontario, Canada to Michigan (Detroit area) and later to Ohio - believed ended his days in Toledo. Wife's name Mary Ann, children include Thomas (b. Michigan 1865), Susan (1866) Mary Ann (1868) and George (1875). Any descendants of any of these people? ..... you have a cousin in Madrid, Spain! Contact me! Richard Oliver.
