My daughter replied to your previous posting and I would like to clarify. First, we do not have definite proof that John Loftis came from Ulster. If you do, bless you for any help you can pass along! You may already know this, but just in case...all but 3 counties of Ulster province (formerly part of Ireland) are now Northern Ireland. Those 3 counties and the remaining provinces became the Republic of Ireland. I ran into problems trying to find any records of the Loftis family in Ireland. It was like a brick wall. However, I did find records of both the Dill and Loftis families (mostly Dill) in Ulster (Northern Ireland). So many of the Scots-Irish families in Delaware were Protestants from Ulster province, it seemed logical that the Dill-Loftis families might be also. The PRONI (Public Record Office of Northern Ireland) website is a good place for info. I have not yet been able to establish a definite birth place for John Loftis. Part of the problem may be due to changes in the spelling of Loftis and I am not giving up. My interest in the Dill family is due to the connections by marriage of several Dill & Loftis ancestors. Have you found any references that might indicate these two families were linked prior to emigration from Ireland to America? There seems to be connections in NI between Dill and "Loftus" families, but I'm out on a limb here. My thinking is that if they were linked in some way prior to emigration, I might be better able to find actual documents on the John Loftis who was born in 1715. Point of note, is Archibald a recurring "family" name for the Dills? There are references to more than one Archibald Dill in the Ulster records. C. Laurin
