Hello,

This may be odd but I am trying to find my husband's biological parent(s). My husband's adopted name is Mark Pitts-DOB 3-6-66, born in New Orleans. The story we received is there was a Dill family menmber involved with a private adoption. I have many pictures of a James or Jimmy Dill that looks just like my husband. I also have a business card & yellow page of Dill oil drilling. Dark hair, brown eyes and thick dark eyebrows. Please contact us if anybody knows anything. He also has a 1/2 sister. He is a good and successful man and would like to find his family. My e-mail address is pittshd01@AOL.Com (number 01-not Ol) Thank you!

As you can see by my name I am also a Dill and have traced my ancestors to the early Dill families of Murderkill Hundred of Delaware. I have also seen some of the posts that say our ancestors came to America from Ireland but I do not find any actual proof of this claim. I also read that you were traveling to Ireland. Were you able to find any information about the Dill family while you were there? I would be happy to hear any news that you have about our family ancestors.

I have a published biography (1878) that says that my gg grandfather (Benjamin Dill, born about 1776) migrated from Delaware to Kentucky with his family when he was young. I have also found the will of Solomon Dill (born about 1755) who is the father of Benjamin Dill. I am having dificulty connecting this Solomon Dill through which of the sons of John Dill and Sarah who were the first Dill family to settle in Murderkill Hundred of Delaware. Can you help or do you know hwo may be able to help me in this? Thanks.

With love in Christ,

George

Mary Turner Dill (1785-1884)

Mary is my GGG-Grandmother. If anyone has any information on this family I would love to exchange infomration with you. In particular I only have 6 of her 11 childrens names and would love to learn what the other 5 children's names were.

Butler County Democrat Thursday 21 Feb 1884 p4:5
Mrs. Mary Dill departed this life on the 7th day of February, 1884, at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. Wadleigh [Rebecca] in Oxford, Ohio. She was born in 1785 in Baltimore County, Maryland. She moved to Muskingum County Ohio, near the site where Zanesville now stands. Many thrilling events of frontier life she could relate as well as Indian encounters, hardships and struggles to endure in order to make a comfortable home, in the wild forests along the Muskingum. Her maiden name was Turner, a descendant of John Turner, who was one of the party that came over to this country in the “Mayflower” 263 years ago. She was the mother of eleven children, of whom three survive her, B. F. Dill, of Chicago, Mrs. Gibson, of Cambridge, Ohio, and Mrs. [Rebecca] [Charles M.]Wadleigh of Oxford, and one sister and brother at Rushville, Ohio vis., Mrs. Ann Stults and John Turner. She was grandmother of 23 children, and some of those children are grand parents. Her husband [Solomon A. Dill 1790-1848] was a private in the war of 1812. She has enjoyed good health until within the last few years, when her health began to fail, and on February 2d she left the house to enjoy the bright sunshine, after a long and severe winter, to walk around in the yard when she fell and dislocated her hip, which caused her death. Her spirit took its flight at 3 o’clock a. m. February 7, 1884, through the dark valley reaching the golden shore, beckoning others to follow. Her mortal remains were laid at rest in the cemetery vault at Oxford until the weather is more favorable for burial, in this connection we may appropriately say, “Life is a mystery, a dark, deep mystery, and man’s boasted knowledge thereof is small.”
possible Dill connection to Lydia Barrett 1790's

Some years ago I obtained a copy of the publication “New Light on Old Barratt’s” copyright 1984 written by Allen B. Clark and Jane Herson. In addition to a lot of history about the structure and the Methodist Church there is quite a bit of information on the Barrett and Sipple families. My line is with the youngest of the children of Philip Barrett, Jr. and Miriam Sipple, Lydia Barrett, who married Matthew Patton, Sr. Lydia’s birth is recorded, July the 6th 1780, in the family bible now on display in the Museum at Barratt’s. On page 47 a reference is made to Lydia during the Civil War when she was then an aged widow. “Aunt Lydia made her home with different relatives and in the course of yearly peregrinations; she arrived for a visit with a relative in the neighborhood of Barratt’s Chapel.” More details followed concerning her visit at the Chapel. This piece of information, or folklore, was footnoted: page 48, footnote 23. This tale has passed down to modern times from Mrs. Joseph Roop, who was the great-great niece of Lydia Barratt Patton, and was told to Jane Herson in July, 1983 by Mr. Millis Hurley, Milford Historian and a friend of Mrs. Roop’s daughter. I have always wondered if someone in this family may have other information to share about Lydia Barratt, information that would not have been included in the book about the Church history. If anyone is in contact with this Roop family or others that might know something about this I would love to get more information. Perhaps something more might have been archived in another location. I know that Lydia lived with each of her two sons, Matthew Patton, Jr. and Barrett Patton during some of the years after she was widowed in 1829 in Maryland. Evidently she must have spent time with some of her Delaware relatives too.

I believe Matthew Patten was married previously to Sally ? . There is a tombstone at Barratt’s Chapel for her: Sally, wife of Matthew Patton who departed this life Sept. 30th 1790, age 25 years and 9 months. Another researcher once shared with me that she had seen information somewhere that this was Sally Dill, but didn’t recall where she’d gotten that information. Does anyone out there have this connection, perhaps a Dill researcher?

The next piece of information that I have on Matthew Patton Sr. is a recorded sale of personal property in Caroline Co. MD. dated Dec.3, 1799. Matthew Patten to Benjamin Dill, of Kent Co. Delaware. In consideration 55 pounds bill of sale for furniture, 12 pairs of shoes, a carriage body and top. Acknowledged by John Bennett and Joshua Clark. Another Dill connection. I’m hoping that someone might have some knowledge of this Dill Family that might give me some more clues on this couple, Matthew Patten/Patton and wife Lydia Barrett.

Thanks, Patti

The dates given for Elizabeths marriage and John's birth are not consistant with normal ages. If Elizabeth really married in 1644 she was probably 14 to 19 years of ae at that time and would have been born between 1630 and 1634. If John was Elizabeth's brother then he would have been born betwen 1620 and 1640 and their father Robert would have been born about 1590 to 1610. Do you a source for the dates that you have listed? I would love to hear more about these people. With love in Christ,

George

I just read your message about a John Dill born about 1603 in Cornwall, England. I have information about my ancestor John Dill who came to America in 1659. However I have not been able to find any ship records of where in Europe he came. If your John Dill had a child named John Dill who was born about 1630 to 1640 then I think that there may be a connection. I am highly interested in what ever information that you may be willing to share. Thank you. With love in Christ,

George

Searching for a Jacob Dill

I recently found a marriage record showing a Jacob Dill married to an Lettishia or Letitia Jane O'Bryan or Obryan in 1880 in Arkansas, Crawford Co. I do not know where Jacob was born, but there are suggestions that it could be Ohio or Arkansas. Jacob was born about 1853. The marriage was in 1880. Could Dill also be spelled Diehl? Just looking for some help, thanking you in advance, Anna Herrera

Re: Dill Family in Oklahoma and Texas

I am trying to discover how William Edward Dill, married to "Bertie" Snellings, died in 1905, for he left 4 children as orphans, one being my husband's grandmother Maud Dill. The family story is that he died during a bank robbery, either as one of the robbers or one of the lawmen. The descendents are very curious to know which! All we know is that he is buried in Elmore City cemetery, Garvin County, Oklahoma. Thanks for any enlightenment on his death.
