I think that definitely makes us cousins. Pretty neat. My grandmother Minnie married John Franklin Harvey. My father is one of the two sons that they had, James Harvey. Now, his brother Kenneth did some family research a while back. Mom thinks there is possibly Dillinger information with his information that has since been passed to one of his children. I will send an email to see if they have anything. This is truly fascinating! Okay, I'll let you know when I hear anything. Can't wait to view the Sanborn tree. My mom has a ton of pictures of the Sanborns. We have been trying to put names and faces together. Take care - your cousin, Jill

William Dillinger/Dellinger from Pittsburgh?

I have a Sarah Ann Dillinger, b. 1826 in Pennsylvania, whose father, in a bio sketch of Sarah's son Andrew Gregg published in 1902, is claimed to be William Dillinger, a farmer from the outskirts of Pittsburgh. I can find no William Dillinger (including all related spellings of that name) in census records from 1820 or 1830 in western Pennsylvania, nor have I found any other records with this name. (There was a William Dillinger in the eastern part of Pennsylvania at the time.) Does anyone have information that could be relevant to a William Dillinger in the Pittsburgh area?

I'm also interested in this connection. Solomon Dillinger was my g-g-g-grandfather (born in Pennsylvania), and I've wondered if Sarah Ann was his sister. I've been unable so far to find how Solomon was connected to any Dillinger families in PA. I'm told that another descendant of his had this information, though that man has now passed away, and I'm trying to find out whether any of his children may know. I'll post anything I learn.

Philip Dillinger was my gr-gr-grandfather by his first wife. I have extensive info on this family. We have never proven a connection to John Dillinger. My grandmother said he was a cousin, but her information was incorrect. I had information that Lawrence was told John Dillinger was his third cousin, but Philip's Dillinger family arrived in US many years before John Dillinger's family. You would have to trace records back to Europe to prove.

While looking through my father's side of the family, I have discovered that my 3rd great aunt married a Dillinger. I am trying to figure out if this Dillinger is somehow directly related to John Dillinger. Here is what I have so far:

Phillip Dillinger (1852-1934) married Henrietta "Etta" [Smith] Harbrecht (1862-1938) on October 16, 1894. They had 4 children: Ethel, Lawrence, Leona, and Sylvester.

Although this relatives shares the name Dillinger, it may or may not be a match. Please help.

My great grand father, Wallis Monroe Dillinger died just after Grant took Vicksburg--he was with the Mississippi Marine Brigade, and must have died of malaria. His older brother died in Atlanta, which suggests he was with the army that ravaged through Georgia and then up the coast.

Sorry, I have no data on the person about whom you'd like more information. I think I've traced a Dillinger, a greeat grandfather of my grandfather, who's name was Henry. Butthat's more or less a guess. Won2sic3

If anyone is interest I will try to get a picture or rubbing. It's very worn, of course. Let me know and I'll do the best I can. Doris Direnzo

Re: Mary K. Dilinger (Dillinger) born in Indiana

I am curious about Mary K Dillinger that you have posted about here, born in Indiana, married in KY. What part of Indiana is she suppose to be from? My great great grandparents were Nicholas and Keziah McIntosh Dillinger, but Nicholas was married before Keziah to a Margaret Mayall in Floyd Co, IN in 1825. They had 9 children before Margaret died between 1840-1845. I have been unable to find a marriage record for Nicholas and Keziah but their first child was born about 1846. I only know this because I found a death record in the 1850 Mortality Census in White Co, IL where they migrated and Nicholas was rewarded bounty land for his participation in the Black Hawk Indian War. A Louisa Dillinger 3 yrs, and brother Thomas Dillinger age 2 mo. died within a month of each other in 1849. They were the only Dillinger family in that area at that time. They went on to have at least 5 more children. Rumor has it that Nicholas' first family did not want him to remarry and so he and Keziah ran off in the middle of the night and a note was left for them. He still had 2 young children at the time who the older children became guardians of. At least 2 of his first sons died in the Civil War and it is unclear whether he even ever heard from his first family again. Nicholas and Keziah's son Benjamin Franklin Dillinger is my great grandfather. If you wish to know any more or can share anything with me, feel free to contact me through my Terry family tree on Ancestry. Thanks, Carrie

The first names are right, but the spelling of the last name for all the persons listed should be DILLINGER--the parents were my maternal grandparents, and the children were my aunts and uncles, except for my mother, Arlena Dillinger. Some of the dates are a bit off; I have a complete FTM file of the Dillingers, from William Riley's grandfather on down; Riley had one brother, Stephen, and there is quite a family of Steve Dillinger's family--for which I have data on his children and grandchildren.

James Kuhn, jkuhn1917@aol.com

My maternal parents were Dillingers; my grandfather, William Riley Dillinger was born in 1861, & his father, Wallis, died at age 23, a member of the Mississippi Marine Brigade, on the Mississippi, just south of Vicksburg, 1863.

Riley Dillinger had four sons, Arthur, Winfield, William & Roy, as well as 5 daughters, one of which was my Mother.

I think your Dilinger family is another branch, about which I have no information.
By any chance do any of you have info on a Sarah Dillinger (Date of birth unknown, but I suspect around 1860's). She had an illigitimate son in 1886 by an indian man and then later married my Great-Great Grandfather Grover Cleveland Roberts who adopted Sarah's son and gave him his name. They worked on a railroad and Sarah robbed $10,000 off a Doctor while on a train. She later purchased land near Little Rock, Arkansas with the money. She was later brought up on charges and executed for the crime. I am unable to find any trace of her but was told she was a first cousin to John H. Dillinger. Any info you have would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Dillinger
b in 1887 or 1898 in the state of New York

Believe to have been married their in 1921, probley not very long. information gotten off 1930 fed census.
2nd Marriage in 1925 to my grandmother Veler Bunton in Arkansas. My father was said to have been born in New York but his delayed birth certificate states Arkansas.
That information was supplied by Veler Bunton's Father, whom raised my dad and only uncle. The boy's mother was incapable to care for the boys after William died in 1934/35. We do not know much about grandpa William except he was gone alot. He is rumored to have been struck by lightening in an oilfield in texas or oklahoma. We've also heard that he was shot by revenuers for bootlegging. We just do not know the truth and probley never will. But would love to know where he is buried.
Any help would be appreciated.
Celia's parents are Andrew J. Dellinger and Elizabeth J. Sitzes. I am not sure if Andrew J. and Jacob Dellinger were brothers or what. I have not been able to find any NC connections to Simson (or Simeon). I am wondering if Simson is Andrew J Dellingers Father.
