My father Nestor Dimick (Demick or Dimitri) came through Ellis Island on the SS NY out of Cherbourg France around 1911. He was born Sept 14 1893 according to naturaliation papers...I thought he was born in Florina Greece, but have other other information he was born in Bulgaria. and lived in Erie PA. I think Sophia. He moved with his father to Criova Romania when he was about 10 or 12 years old..He used to get letters addressed to him from a niece in Greece
I have no idea how to get birth certificates. We probably are not related, but you mentioned Macedonia and he was a Macedonian and spoke it and many languages. I thought he may have come from Florina Greece under the name Naoum Dimitri. This is information I have from the SS NY manifest.
Perhaps we can exchange information

Emanuel Dimitri

Hi! I'm so happy to see this board. I'm looking for information on Emanuel DIMITRI. As far as I know, this was his name when he came to America from Greece. Upon coming here, he changed his named to DIMOS. From the stories my husband's grandmother told us before passing away, Emanuel was a stoaway. He was born around 1892 and died in Feb 1971. I'm not sure when he came over. He married Bertha HALVAJAS, b. 1904 (?) and d. 1928. She died from Teburculosis at age 24. They had two children. Allie DIMOS b. 1 Nov 1923, d. 2 Sept 2001. And a son Robert James DIMOS 10 Nov 1926.
Bertha had an uncle named Emil Pascalaskis who was a Greek Minster. (Greek Orthdox Church
Any information anybody might have would be helpful. Thanks in advance!!!!!!!!!

My grandfather was Nikolai Dimitre, but his name probably was changed at Ellis Island upon his entry into the US. We believe it was Dimitrieviche or similar name from Austria-Hungary. He had brothers Thomas and George who arrived in the US at New York in the early part of the 20th Century. I believe though that 1925 would have been too late to be a relative.
Hi Liz:

Your question is can I give you some more names of brothers of my grandfather Nicolai Dimitrievicie (Dimitri). The brothers names that I have are the following: Michael, George, and Joseph. All lived in New York as far as we know. The only other twist I can think of is that another spelling of the last name is Dimitre. Regards Glen
