Hi, I would be interested in seeing what you received in the 1753s from Germany and/or England. I don't have much information in the late 1880s but I do have information from 1750 until 1850 which I will share with you. Also I live in Dallas and I go to the Dallas Library in downtown Dallas. It is great for information but not too much on the Dimmicks. I am into the Gilgers and their daughters who married Frederick and Peter Dimmick, Dimig, Demick, Dumick, etc.

Nancy Hyden
nancyhyden@verizon.net
Nancy Hyden

I am a decendant of Martial and Oshea (Smith) Dimmick. I have heard that Martial wrote some essays or a journal. I have not been able to find it anywhere, only excerpts from it. Does anyone know where this might be or if it even exists. I am related through his daughter Peninah who married Elias Green Terrill. Thier daughter, Ermina, married Byron Dimmick. Both Ermina and Byron Dimmick were decendants of Edward Dimmick Sr, who emigrated to Pa. from Ct. in 1807.

Hi Laura -

You mention Gideon and Mary Lee Dimmick. Is there any information on Gideon? Phoebe's father was a lawyer.

There are lots of Dimmicks in the area we are talking about - bet most of them are related. The question is, how closely? Hope we can sort this out.

Kathleen

I have Dimmicks in my family lines. I've just learned of a Phoebe A. Dimmick who married Benjamin Spicer in 1845. He was from Middletown, Delaware Co., NY, so she may have been from there, too. They married in Trumansburg, Tompkins Co. She died in 1878 and is buried in Grove Cemetery, Trumansburg, Town of Ulysses. Her father was Lawyer Dimmick.

Is there any connection?

Kathleen

I am looking for confirmation and source information on some of the published Dimmick lines I have run into. One of them is my line:
(1)Shuebel Dimmock and Joanna Burlsey
(2)Timothy Dimmock and Abigail Doane
(3)Ebenezar Dimmick and Mary Keyes
(4)Solomon Dimmick and Electa Hull
(5)William Beebe Dimmick and Pamela Kellogg
(6)Delia Marie Dimmick and Holly Crawford
(7)Augusta P. Crawford and Solomon Harris
(8)Ida Harris and James E. Gillespie
(9)Cecile Gillespie and Samuel Stephan
(10)Carl Stephan and Betty Jane Coyle
(11)My mother
(12)Me

Of note, some of the information out there on this line is flawed and undocumented... In one case, I discovered an outright false genealogy in the Sedgwick line connected to the Kellogg family. I am in search of more solid evidence of the above line... Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

srimell@chartercom.com

I am looking for an ancestry that is truthful for Holly CRAWFORD b.1796, NY; d.1879, Gibson Co., IN and his wife Della Maria DIMMICK/DIMMIK b.1803, MA; d.1881, Gibson Co., IN.

I have seen several group sheets and LDS ancestral files on these two families, but I am suspicious of the connections that are being asserted and would like to work with someone on finding the truth.

Several ancestral files have Della M. Dimmick Crawford as daughter of William Beebe Dimmick and Pamela Kellogg. The Kellogg line ascends to a distant claim that one of the forefathers of the family was Myles Standish-- I found this to be not only untrue, but also widely known as a made-up genealogy.

I am very particular about accuracy and documentation and would like to either prove or disprove the notes I am working off of, but I need some help from someone else who may have been researching these families. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

srimell@chartercom.com

I don't have enough information on this family to know if there is a connection. Phoebe looks like she might have been a contemporary of Sarah Dimmick (my family)- who was born in Middletown, Delaware Co. NY and married in 1838. She had at least 7 siblings (but I don't know any names). Her parent's names where Gideon and Mary Lee Dimmick. So, Phoebe and Sarah could be cousins ... or Phoebe could be Sarah's niece - Sarah is the second youngest child born over a 25 year period, which means that she may have had nieces and nephews who were close to her in age. Looks like we'd need more information to know anything for sure : )

They lived in Middletown, Delaware Co, NY and he is listed as working in agriculture on the 1820 census. On the 1830 census Gideon is living next to two other Dimmick families - one headed by Joseph and one by Ira, but I don't know what the relationship is. Gideon and Mary had a least 3 boys and 5 girls. Sarah Dimmick was the 7th child and married James Lee. I am looking for more information on Gideon's ancestory.

I have a listing in my uncle's Dimick Family History for your John A. Dimick b. Sep 16, 1806 in Coventry or Mansfield, CT who married May 8, 1834 Caroline M. Dimmock of Mansfield, CT who was "perhaps the Caroline Matilda Moulton who first married Oliver Ward Dimick". John A. was also noted be "of Middle Smithfield, PA". I do not have any information on children of John A. Dimick.

If this is your John A. Dimick, he was descended from Elder Thomas Dimick of Barnstable, MA by Shubael, John, Timothy, Timothy and Mason (John A.'s father) Dimick.

John A.'s parents were Mason Dimick (b June 22, 1767 in Coventry, CT). He died May 1833 in Mansfield, CT. He married Jan 18, 1787 in Coventry, CT to Anne Robertson who was born in 1757 and died Jan 20, 1832.

You should know that Elder Thomas Dimick was descended from his great grandfather, Sir Edward Dymoke of Scrivelsby, Lincolnshire, England, who was the "King's Champion". This ceremonial title went back to Edward's ancestor, Sir Robert Marmion, who was Champion to William the Conqueror in Normandy.

I can provide you additional information from my uncle's "The Dimick Family: The Dymokes of England and some Descendants of Elder Thomas Dimick of Barnstable, Plymouth Colony"

It's possible these are the children of Joseph Washington Dimmick (German decent, born PA) and Hannah J Pruden Dimmick (born OH). My line goes through Joseph's first wife Sarah Jane Weeks, so I haven't done a lot of research on Hannah's children, but at some point I'd like to. If you decide there's a connection feel free to contact me, I have extensive information on Joseph's ancestry. Here's all I have on Joseph and Hannah's children, from the 1880 Census:

1880 Benton Co IN Census, pg 330B, says:
Joseph Demmick age 65 born PA Father PA Mother PA
Hanah age 45 born OH Father OH Mother OH
Richard M age 14 born IN Father PA Mother OH
Eavey age 9 born IN Father PA Mother OH
Era age 9 born IN Father PA Mother OH
William age 8 born IN Father PA Mother OH
Emery age 6 born IN Father PA Mother OH
Hubby age 3 born IN Father PA Mother OH (says "this child is a morpedite")

Thanks

GA
The Charles Dimmick you mentioned is most likely the son of Frederick Dimmick and Catharine Gilger. The two families were living next door to each other in the 1850 Census, after Frederick had died (26 Sep 1829) and all of Frederick and Catharine's children had moved out except Margaret. Then Margaret is living with Charles' family in the 1860 Census after Catharine passed away (3 Nov 1855). I have extensive information on all the children and Frederick and Catharine's ancestry if you're interested. I have also pasted the data I have on Charles below. Lastly, the extended family was definitely Lutheran as you mentioned - Frederick's parents worshiped at the "Blue Church" (St. Peter's) in Ralpho, formerly Shamokin, Northumberland county PA, and most of Frederick and Catharine's children were baptised there.

1850 Pottsville, Schuylkill co PA Census, says:
Charles Dummig (indexed under Dunning), Plasterer, age 22 born PA, Mary A age 21 born PA, Samuel age 2 born PA.
Listed three doors down from his Mother Catherine (listed under "Dummig") and sister Margaret.

1860 Pottsville, Schuylkill co PA Census, says:
Charles Dimmick age 36, Plasterer, born PA, Mary Ann, Seamstress, age 32 born PA, Samuel age 12 born PA, Ellen age 10 born PA, Mary age 4 born PA, Kate age 3 born PA, Margaret age 6mnths born PA, Margaet age 38, Tayloress, born PA.

1870 [listed twice - first entry] Pottsville N.W.
