This is supposedly my ancestors. I have Jacob Dimit Married to Sidney Buckey. My line desends from James Bell Dimit. His Daughter Lelia Permalia Dimit Married Fredrick W Thompson in Washington. Then moved to Oregon where they had a son Jack Smith Thompson - My Grandfather. So Jacob Dimit would be my 3rd Great Grandfather. I'm stuck on Jacob Dimit and can not go back in the generations any further. Do you have any info on his parents? I found several of the census images for Jacob Dimit and James Dimit. The last name is wrong in the search sometimes it's Dimmet, Dimitt, Dewit. I am guess Jacob Dimit must have passed between 1860 and 1870 probably in Virginia since I am not findint him on any of the census for 1870.
