OBITUARY NOTES

Shuback Dimock died at Windsor, N.S. on Thursday last, after a short illness, in the seventy-second year of his age. He was one of the leading ship builders and ship owners of Nova Scotia and was well known in maritime circles here.

From the New York Herald of Tuesday, January 13, 1891 (page 5)...There is also a short obit in the New York Herald Tribune of Jan 13, 1891 (page 7) which correctly calls him SHUBAEL DIMOCK

.....(NOTE: so he died Jan 8, 1891).

Hi Kim,

If you go back one generation to Asa 7-65 you'll find he was married twice. His first wife was Amy Rockwell, but it looks like the children are incorrectly listed with each wife based on the death cert you have.

Thank you for pointing me in the right direction, Tim. I found him listed in the website you provided me. My William M. is William Mason son of Asa Dimock III. and Amy Rockwell. It has on the website that William Mason's mother's name was McPhee, but I know for certain from William's death certificate that his mother's last name was Rockwell. :-)

Hi Malinda,

I am also related to a Dimock from Hants County, Nova Scotia. My great great grandfather was William M Dimock b. 28 Jul 1850 in Nova Scotia, Canada and married to Jennie H. McGee. I'm not sure if our families are connected in anyway, but I figured introducing myself and my family couldn't hurt. :-)

I am the great great granddaughter of William M. Dimock b 28 Jul 1850 in Nova Scotia Canada and married to Jennie H. McGee also from Canada. I don't know if my ancestor is connected to yours in any way, but I noticed your post heading of Nova Scotia; Dimock. The Department of Defense announced today the death of a soldier who was supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.

Spc. Joseph W. Dimock II, 21, of Wildwood, Ill, died July 10 in Salerno, Afghanistan, of injuries sustained from a non-combat related incident when an explosion occurred in an ammunition holding facility during an inventory. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment, Hunter Army Airfield, Ga.

Your Shubael probably descends from Shubael Dimmock (1644-1732) of Barnstable MA. A later Shubael was a planter in NS, so you probably descend from him, too. See

Thanks - i've got a Herbert Dimock, who was born around the same time, who married a Margaret Yale DOUGLASS and ended up in Ca too - I was getting the Herberts mixed up. Now I know mine is the one from Mass!

I am trying to find any information on Scott Dimock and I believe his daughter, Pauline. He was born around 1887 to Joseph H. Dimock and Lydia Jane Vaughan.

I have traced the Dimock side back, but cannot find descendants or lineage of Scott.

Looking for any information on James Whitman Dimock. He was the son of Joseph Dimock who was the son of Joseph Dimock Who was the son of Daniel Dimock who was the sun of Shubael Dimock of the famous "Marster's Genealogy, 1899". James Whitman was my great, great grandfather. I do believe he was born in either Yarmouth or Halifax, NS. His son Albert Prescott Dimock and my grandfather Fred P. Dimock Sr. came back to America in the early 1900's. Albert and Fred along with many of my line of Dimocks are buried in the Trinty Churchyard in Woodbridge, NJ. The Alan Dimmick genealogy is also incorrect- having Albert dying before my grandfather was born. Anything anyone can offer would be wonderful.

Ira Dimock born Tolland, CT 1/15/1827 d. 5/1917 in Hartford. Was the son of Otis Dimock. Brother: Lucius. Family moved to South Willington, CT. Ira later moved to Rockville, CT, later Leeds, MA, then Mansfield, and Hartford, Ct. Children: Stanley K., Harold E. (both of Hartford, CT), Mrs. William Glackens and Mrs. Florence Fitzgerald (both of NY). Another son, Irving, died in the Spanish-American War.
