Have you gotten info for your Dina family tree? I am looking for information for the family of Elizabeth Jane Dina, who was born in the Detroit area in 1933. I know her heritage is Czech but can't find much about her extended familly. I would appreciate any information that would help identify for sure people in her family tree. I have some info about her and it would have to be the same lady for me to add data to what I have.

As far as I know, the correct spelling of my great-grandfather's last name is Dina (the spelling you provide is Dinya). However, some of the facts you list about your great-grandfather align with the details I know about my great-grandfather. So, I am wondering if we are talking about the same family!

My maternal great-grandfather was Joseph Dina, married to Sophia Dina. As far as I know, they were born in Austria, but were ethnically Slovakian. They emigrated to the US in 1909. They had 6 children (Joseph, Anna, Susan, Mary, Mitro, Verna). Mary Dina was my grandmother. They lived in Paint, PA...about 5 miles away from Johnstown. Susan, Mary, and Verna eventually moved to NY. I do not know anything else about the other siblings. I also do not know what my great-grandmother's maiden name was.

Are we talking about the same family? Did you manage to find out any further information about your great-grandfather?

Dear Catherine, My grandmother was Rose Marie Alongo Piriano Manfre. I know she had relatives on 38th street. She lived in New Brunswick, NJ. I know she had a brother either Maury or Mario Alongo who was killed in a barber shop in NY many years ago. She had a couple of real sisters no one knows their names. They lost contact. Her mother was Fortunata Alongo. She remarried and had Sons, Frank Piriano, Catherine Cali, and Frances Tedesco. Any chance we are related? Please respond.

Michael,
My grandfather was Andrew John Dina. He was a barber. He was married to Catherine Piriano (Prine). They had 10 children. They lived on Prospect Avenue, Brooklyn. Then at 278 East 38th Street.

He had at least one brother we called "Uncle." He had a son John Dina. John Dina was married to Stella. Of their children, (my cousins) I remember most Lorraine and Stella, their daughters. I know they had sons, but they were younger. I believe there was Joe and John. They lived near JFK in Flushing.

I'm still in contact with Lorraine and Stella who live in that area. I'm up in Rochester, NY area.

My Dad was a Dina and my grandfather immigrated from Turin, Italy. my background on this side of the family is Jewish. Do the Sicilian Dinas also share Jewish family history? I know many Dinas have identified with Catholicism over the years. Has yours? If so, do you know when it might have changed from Judism to Catholicism? Or how has it played out in your family?

Hi, Mary. I know we are related! Who's daughter are you?

All the Dina's are in Holy Cross Cemetery. Frank Prine was one of my favorite cousins, along with his sister Dorothy Prine Boscarello. Dot is in Florida and we always correspond.

Lucrezia Piraino was my great-grandmother. I remember visiting her on Troy Avenue. I was young, but I can remember sitting by the window and looking down at all the people and cars. My grandmother Catherine lived with us. She had a sister Margaret. Margaret's daughter (Margaret, too) is living in Florida.

Send me your address so we can correspond directly.

Best wishes! and what a nice surprise!

Cathy
DINA

My grandfather was Andrew John Dina. He was born in Palermo, Sicily. He settled in Brooklyn, NY. He married Catharine Piarino. They had 10 children, five of whom survived and had children of their own: Genevieve, Marie, Grace, Edward, Catherine, and Andrew, Jr. Andrew Jr. was my father.

As a child I do remember going to Pennsylvania to visit relatives. They lived in an area that had marble steps on the front of row houses. The women would all wash those steps every Sunday morning!

I am trying to complete a geneology and most of those who would know are no longer with us.
