Hi Ed,
Thanks for the info, they are the first Dynan possibilities earlier than 1800 that I have so it could be really useful, even if it's not actually them I should be able to access their family line that way. Thank you so much for helping. If I find out anything interesting I'll update it here.
Thanks again and Best Wishes,
Lindyloo

Hi Malcolm,
I do hope this is still active! Reading all the DINAN threads Debbi said you're a geneology 'genius'and I do need help!
I'm seeking help with my Irish Dinan ancestor who moved (possibly from Cork) to Manchester sometime before 1828,he may have chosen Manchester due to other relations living there but I have no details other than John DINAN was born in Ireland and was married in Manchester to Ann Griffith Parry in 1829 with their son John (born @1830, on 1841 census with his maternal grandparents in Anglesey) and second son Charles (@1832) being born there.
They later moved to Liverpool and had two more children, then sometime after 1845 John went to America with a relation of his (could have been a cousin, could he possibly be from your Dinan side?). They boarded a ship in Liverpool and sailed to New York I believe, possibly on the Ship 'Franklin'.
Sadly John died fighting in the Civil War sometime between 1861-65 at Bull Run/ Manassas. His 'cousin' may have lived and established a family line in the USA afterwards.
I would love any help, with finding his parents, his cousin who went to America with him or especially their family in Ireland. If anyone could tell me how to find their Civil War Records (the 'cousin's' name is not known- he could be a Dinan or a different name) it would be great.
Thanks for reading and best wishes.

Yes, Mary Dinan Campbell was the daughter of Timothy & Celia Moyles. My mother, Doris, was Mary's daughter. Mary had five daughters and one son, my Aunt Edna is the only surviving Dinan that I know of in the Valley. I recently spoke with a Dinan in Washington State (Tom??) who is 93 yrs old and said he would copy some info for me.
My Brother, Tim, has Timothy & Cecilia's family bible. He recently found it after my father passed & he went through some things. He's going page by page to try and retrieve info.
I'd like to send my email address, but not sure I want it broadcast in this forum. What do you think??
Pat
ps--by the way, what's your name and where are you from??

Patricia, was your grandmother Mary the daughter of Tim Dinan? Tim was one of my 2nd-great-grandfathers. In any case, Tim's parents were Patrick and Margaret, so we have a connection. About a month ago I spoke to Tom Dinan who is the great-grandson of John Dinan of Northampton County, Pennsylvania (John and Tim were brothers and worked as foremen for the Lehigh Valley Railroad). Let's compare notes!

John DINAN or DYNAN born @1806 ?Cork Ireland

Hello,
I'd love any help possible with my elusive John DINAN born @1806 in Ireland, possibly the Cork area.We believe one of his relatives worked as/with the Harbourmasters of Cork.
All we know is John DINAN moved to England before @1835,lived in Manchester with his wife(Ann ?Griffiths, born in Holyhead Wales) for a while and his first ?two children were born there. On 1841 census he is living with family in Liverpool and by 1851 census he has disappeared. He suddanly went with his ?brother/cousin to USA ?New York from Liverpool between 1842-1851 and fought and ?died in the American Civil War (however the dates of Civil War are later than him emmigrating so why he went initially I'm not sure).
I've tried everything I can think of so now I'm wondering if anyone with DINAN family in Ireland in the late 1700 or early 1800's could please help. If you have a DINAN family that has a son or sibling called John born @1806 please could you see if he could possibly be mine...please.
I have been told there was a DINAN family in the Queenstown/Cobh area of Cork at the right time who were associated with the Harbour board of directors/commissioners and had something to do with being Timber merchants if this could help anyone think of connections.
I'd love to hear anything that might help. Thanks

I have all the same names in my family from Ireland. The males in my family were always named William until me. My GGGrandfather was named William Thomas Dinan/Dining/Dynan. Not sure what name he used but he was born 1839 and just seemed to arrived in Illinois. It shows his parents to be Patrick Dinan and Bridget Davit but again, it could have been the German Priests in Ill that spelled her name Davit. If you have anything to share that I might try to tie to my line, I would appreciate it. You can email it to jdining@sbcglobal.net. You may be a cousin for sure. I will share anything I have also.

James Dining

Hi,
I'm still looking for my elusive John DINAN born @1806 in Ireland, then living in Liverpool in 1841 with wife and children.
Once again I've tried everything I can think of incase more records are now available (never did get a reply from the Cork Harbourmasters). His wife was Ann ?GRIFFITH and born according to the 1851 census in Anglesey, Holyhead, Wales. They had their first child in Rochdale in @1835-7 ages on census dont correlate exactly. His birth was found for me by the manchester records office years ago, but I cannot find it since. Cant find a marriage or anything that could help get further back. Believed to have fought in American Civil War, went suddenly with his ?cousin?brother leaving family behind, guesstimate between 1842-51. PLEASE can someone think of anything that I can do to find out more, would love to find his parents ?from around Cork, Ireland-John DINAN is my brick wall on this line!!
Heres hoping, Thanks Lindyloo

Hi,
Thank you for responding to this, although there are similarities I think, unfortunatly, they aren't the same person. I know that my John Dinan was in the Liverpool/Manchester area on the 1841 Census and I know from family 'tales' that he died in the American Civil War at Bull Run, Manassas (?spelling) as his uniform and a few belongings were shipped back to the family. However the uniform was actually from the opposing side to the one they thought he had joined!!
I suspect there may be a common link somewhere as it appears that lots of Dinans (later to sometimes become Dynan) came over from Ireland and they may well be related. If you have any further info that may fit in with my line I'd be delighted to hear more. John is the furthest I've got back to on the Dinan side. The only other piece of vague info I have is some 'tale' of them being related to the Harbour-master of Cork somehow-?cousin ?brother etc.I have emailed the present Harbourmaster's there to see if there are any records available, but I've had no reply as yet. So if that 'rings a bell' with you it would be wonderful to hear more. Thanks very much and good luck with your searching.

Hi,
I'd love some help to track down John Dinan born in Ireland estimated @1806, he's married to Anne on the 1841 England census, but he's not around on any later ones. Believed to have sailed to USA and fought in the American Civil War with his cousin. Apparently he just went and left wife and children behind! I've tried all the ways I can think of to find out more but to no avail! No idea who his parents were, or where he came from in Ireland-he just shows up on the 1841 census with wife born in Holyhead, Wales and has a daughter in 1843 present on 1851 census but he isn't!! I'd be overjoyed to have some help please.
Thanks
