John Dinges, father of Peter Henry Dinges

OK, I have a little additional information. My ggrandfather is John Dinges m. Catherine (surname unknown). John was born in Germany Feb, 1846 and Catherine was born in Germany Nov 1845. Both of their families came to the U.S. in 1854. Their eldest son as far as I can tell is Joe Dinges born Dec, 1869 in Illinois and their youngest child, dau. Catherine born 1884 in Iowa. From my records it appears that all of their children were born in Illinois except the youngest Catherine. I know of one other child, Godfrey Joseph born Oct 1879. The 1900 census states she had 8 children and that 7 are living. So there are 3 children unaccounted for. In the 1900 Census they are living in Odebolt, SAC cnty, Iowa. Please contact me if you have any info to add.

I am looking for anyone who has any knowledge of my gggrandparents - Georg(e) & Eva (Nee: Eckel) Dinges. They grew up near Frankfort-on-the-Main, Germany and emigrated to the United States about 1854. They settled in Waterloo, Il.

They had 6 children, 3 boys & 3 girls. At least 4 (and possibly 5 of the children were born in Germany. Their youngest son, Heinrich Amandus (my great grandfather) was born in Waterloo in 1855.

Their oldest son (George, Jr.) fought in the Civil War (on the Union side) . He was in an Illinois Calvary Unit and fought under the command of General Sigel. I believe he attained the rank of sargent. He died of Yellow Fever in Mississippi after the siege of Vicksburg.

Their youngest son (Heinrich Amandus) was a doctor in Waterloo & Red Bud, Ill. in 1914.

I would appreciate hearing from anyone who has any knowledge of this side of my family.

I do not have an email address at this time but I can be contacted through my friend, Pat, at the above email address.

Ann Gallagher

DINGES from DOENGES?

While checking for the surname DOENGES, I came across
a posting made to this DINGES Board which suggests that
the name Dinges itself may have been spelled DOENGES
(actually the O is an Umlaut :O or like we spell it here OE)
in Germany. Your subscriber rightly pointed out that it
would sound the same.
Well now, I just posted a message about a Hessian soldier
to the DOENGES Board, and if you are looking for roots
in Germany, it would be a good idea to check for DOENGES.
To my knowledge there were two Hessian soldiers of the
American Revolution by the name of DOENGES who did
remain here after the war was over, one down in Maryland,
and one in Canada, you can check that out on the other
board.
Happy hunting,
John Helmut Merz,
I also have Doenges in my tree, but not related to the
soldiers.

Peter Henry Dinges m. Mary Agnes Langin

Looking for info on the parents of Peter Henry Dinges born 1/31/1874 in Sublette, Il. He married Mary Agnes Langin (b. 1878) in 1897 in Odebolt, Iowa. In 1927 they moved to Carroll, Iowa. They had 15 children.

Peter had at least one sister and one brother from info I have gathered. I don't have his sister's given name but found her listed as Mrs. Tony Reis of Storm Lake (IA or SD?) in a newspaper article. The brother I know less about and have not actually proven his existence via documents. If you have any information on this lineage of Dinges, please contact me. I am very interested in the names of my ggrandparents (Peter's mother and father). Thankyou. Deveron
deverondee@earthlink.net
