Hi, and first I apologize for this lengthy post...
I have been beating my head against the wall on this one. I live in Cundy's Harbor, Maine...about 500 feet from our little cemetery. The line I had started researching on was my Eastman ancestors. My great great grandfather is Levi Dingley Eastman (1834-1913). Well, we have a Dingley Island here about a mile down the road. But I couldn't find any connection and never really knew how Dingley Island got its name. Then, one day I was walking through the cemetery and found Captain Levi Dingley's (1756-1845?)tombstone. Now, I was really getting puzzled as to why, perhaps, my ancestor might be named after Levi Dingley. Through more research, I found there is a Nancy Dingley in my family...my 4th great grandmother...Levi Dingley Eastman's grandmother. I don't have any dates or parents for her. The date I do have is her marriage date to Nathaniel Eastman-April 12, 1803, and their two children. John (Levi Dingley Eastman's father was b. May 10, 1803 in Lewiston, Maine, d. June 6, 1892, m. Abigail Rich). Hannah b. October 1, 1804, m. David Lee of Woolwich, Maine June 9, 1827 (Levi Dingley's wife is Hannah Peterson). They in turn had a son, John who married Abigail Rich...the parents of Levi Dingley Eastman. Captain Levi Dingley was in the Revolution (I think the Captain is a mariner status though). I understand he is Jacob's son from Duxbury?!?! I am trying to establish some relationship between Nancy and Levi. I am hoping you might know or be able to point me in a direction to find out. I am also curious as to why they moved from Duxbury to our little community of Cundy's Harbor. Any help at all would greatly be appreciated!!Thank you in advance!!
