Below is a CA death record for an individual named "Harvey E. Dingley," who I first thought was the son of Harvey Dingley [1797-1829] and Henrietta Besse [1798-1863] of ME. The Dingley was them spelled "Dinneley". The debate is whter or not such a true aristocratic landedfamily would truly leave everything of whelth behind to come to the us without land ownership,

Captain Nelson Dingley, USA

I found an old photograph within my families photos of a young gentlemen in uniform facing a woman of rather smart dress while holding hands. On the back is says: Captain Nelson Dingley 3rd, Coast Artillery, U.S.A. & his mother, upon his return from the World War. May 1919. Taken at house in So. (can't read) Briartree(?), Wash. March 1919. I have had difficulty in locating him him in genealogy sources, but am sure someone would like this photo for their family genealogy research. Any help information would be helpful.

John Dingley and Sarah Chillingworth

Jonh Dingley came to America in the mid 1630's from England. Two of his daughters( Hannah and Sarah) are ancestors of mine. I find there is much confusion as to what Sarahs last name really is and who their parents are. I find sources that show Sarah Chilling(s)worth as the wife of John but others state that this cannot be so because Sarah Chilling(s)worth married Thomas Sprague. Is it possible there are 2 Sarah Chilling(s)worth's? Or was Sarah not a Chilling(s)worth? Even more remotely possible was Sarah a widow of a Chilling(s)worth?
Most sources show Johns father as Francis Dingley does anyone have any firm or concrete proof of this? If you can answer any of these questions please email me. thanks
Kendall
clkghill@midmaine.com
Captain Levi Dingley and Nancy Dingley of Massachusetts and Maine

Hi, and first I apologize for this lengthy post...

I have been beating my head against the wall on this one. I live in Cundy's Harbor, Maine...about 500 feet from our little cemetery. The line I had started researching on was my Eastman ancestors. My great great grandfather is Levi Dingley Eastman (1834-1913). Well, we have a Dingley Island here about a mile down the road. But I couldn't find any connection and never really knew how Dingley Island got its name. Then, one day I was walking through the cemetery and found Captain Levi Dingley's (1756-1845?)tombstone. Now, I was really getting puzzled as to why, perhaps, my ancestor might be named after Levi Dingley. Through more research, I found there is a Nancy Dingley in my family...my 4th great grandmother...Levi Dingley Eastman's grandmother. I don't have any dates or parents for her. The date I do have is her marriage date to Nathaniel Eastman-April 12, 1803, and their two children. John (Levi Dingley Eastman's father was b. May 10, 1803 in Lewiston, Maine, d. June 6, 1892, m. Abigail Rich). Hannah b. October 1, 1804, m. David Lee of Woolwich, Maine June 9, 1827 (Levi Dingley's wife is Hannah Peterson). They in turn had a son, John who married Abigail Rich...the parents of Levi Dingley Eastman. Captain Levi Dingley was in the Revolution (I think the Captain is a mariner status though). I understand he is Jacob's son from Duxbury?!?! I am trying to establish some relationship between Nancy and Levi. I am hoping you might know or be able to point me in a direction to find out. I am also curious as to why they moved from Duxbury to our little community of Cundy's Harbor. Any help at all would greatly be appreciated!!Thank you in advance!!

Lori York
