I have nothing on him, but so little on the Dingman's that I really can't rule him in or out. Apparently, Henry and Rachel had a son John Law, then Henry remarried and had 2 more children, but I have seen the names of Luis/Luisa and
Julia/Julian - so I never determined whether they were male or female. Henry and Rachel also had a daughter, but we don't know if there were other children or not, and I can't find anything else on them. There might be others with more info, but I don't have it.

Dingmans and Acute Porphyria

I apologize in advance for this question, but I'm not sure there's any better place on the web to ask it than here. I know this is not a medical board... however, since it IS the place where I can "survey" a whole bunch of people related to the Dingman family, I have a general question.

Many of my family in the Dingman line have been diagnosed with one or another form of Acute Porphyria. I am wondering how many other "Dingmans" out there have this rare disease and if so, what type they have. The Acute Porphyrias are a gene mutation that cause severe neurological issues. Sometimes life threatening.

Porphyria was brought to South Africa by dutch immigrants in the mid 1600's. The Dingmans have been in the USA that long or longer. I'm thinking that there is a relationship between this disease and the dutch of this time period that is not a coincidence.

If anyone is interested in this or has pertinent information, feel free to respond or contact me off list at colleen-at-greenandcompany-dot-net.

Thanks in advance for your understanding. (I am in the middle of being diagnosed with this disease and doing tons of research on it. Your info and input is appreciated.)

You can write me at cherimandrell@yahoo.com for more info but I now have records that prove that Sarah Long's marriage to S. Dingman was illegal as he was still married to another. This is why she reverted back to "Long" & received Edmund Long's death benefits. I also have Edmunds' death records which states he was shot through the head & died instantly on picket. Yes, Vienna Case is the daughter Frances Long. I have a picture of the Orphan Home where Samuel lived & more info. Cheri

Please forward picture of Vernon Dingman. Not sure of direct link yet, but I am descended from Isaac Dingman who settled in Wellington Co, Ontario, Canada, b abt 1800. He was born in Northumberland Co or Lennox Co, Ontario. Many Dingmans came to Canada as Loyalists from New York, but also crossed the border quite freely looking for work in later years.
I am a Dingman descendant on my mother's side. Thank you for your information on Adam Dingman. My grandfather was Herbert Dingman, born in Toronto, Canada in 1870. He had no sons so that is a far as the family name goes. He died in the state of Washington in 1935. I'm from Everett, Washington. Really appreciate any stories as I've recently become involved in geneology.

I have traced the Dingman line to 1540 with no native Indian blood lines. Earliest I can find is Adam born in Antwerp Belgium in 1540. His son Adam moved to Holland and married J. Gerrits. They had a son born 1604 in Holland named Gerrit. He married Janneke Teeuwese. They had a son named Adam born in 1631 in Holland He married Aeltie Gardenier. They had a son named Jacob born 1675 in New York he married Eva Swartout(b.1671).They had a son named Rudolphus. They had a son named Rudolphus he married A. Landt. They had a son named Jacob(b1788 in New York). Each couple had a large number of children and many were named Jacob. Google Adam Dingman Kinderhook New York and you should get many answers. Also, by typing these names into your tree hundreds of more names will show up.

WRONG Jacob m. Phobe Tripp?

Hello Again,

I Dont think that Jacob Dingman who m. Phobe Tripp is the son of Peter Dingman and Margaret Gardinier.

DOES ANYONE HAVE PROOF OF THIS LINE?

To see the will of Peter Dingman, go to GOOGLE and type in Peter Dingman Will. The site I found was http://files.usgwarchive.org.

In the will it clearly states Jacob is the OLDEST son and leaves him $50.00. As OLDEST son the birthdate of ca 1788 would be very likely but never the 1805 estimated birthdate of OUR Jacob Dingman who married Phobe Tripp. That is a HUGE age difference of 17 years!

Our birthdate for Jacob who married Phobe is based on the 1850 Census record of Niles Township, Cook County, Ill which lists Jacob, husband of Phobe as 45 years of age in 1850 making his approx. birthdate 1805.

I think the folks who made the leap to Peter and Margaret knew that many residents of Percy Northumberland, Ontario came from the Mowhawk Valley in New York, including Montgomery County. I think they then found that Peter and Margaret Dingman of that New York area had a son named Jacob and jumped to conclusions without checking the dates. I asked them if they had any reason to believe the 1850 census was wrong and they said, No, they hadn't even known of that source for the birthdate of Jacob who married Phobe Tripp.

To date Jacob is a mystery and his parents are unknown. I have found SEVERAL Dingman families of New York who had sons Jacob in the general time period, but no proof as to which may or may not be OUR particular Jacob.

I think many searchers were anxious to "solve" the parentage of our Jacob and jumped at the chance to accept the Peter and Margaret story without checking the facts. This is a very good way to spread mis-information like wildfire. The same thing happened on Charles Tripp, Phobe's father. His parents are not known or proven at this point, yet some eople are making far fetched claims that don't add up. You have to weigh things very carefully.

Don't get me wrong, I'd LOVE to know the parents of OUR Jacob Dingman b. 1805 and also the parents of OUR Charles Tripp, but I want them to be the CORRECT families when we do find them.

I turned over most of my actual records and pictures to cousin Harold Anderson of Pinehurst Idaho. You may want to consult with him. We've been working on this for over 30 years, so you can imagine how difficult Jacob and Charles have been to find. A gentleman named Jan Tripp has also spent many years and much money on Charles Tripp but we still don't have the answers.

Someday!

Yours,

Julie Hendricks

Julie Hendricks

Thanks. I received some info. from someone in the last year or two, I believe it was Harold, and I thought it had the Gardinier's on it, but I'd have to check those records again as well. I could be remembering wrong or they may have had outdated information at the time without the corrections.

I appreciate the corrections. I've often wondered about the data that goes that far back.

The stories in our line and in others (I think perhaps you were one who said stories were also passed down your line, though I'd have to check past emails) was that there was Indian heritage and my great uncle thought his dad had said it was 1-2 generations before his grandfather or grandmother. He had thought it was his grandfather's *Sylvester Hendricks) mother or grandmother, but couldn't remember. He thought it could have been in his grandmother's (Anna Hartman) line. If it were Jacob Dingman, it would be the correct generation and perhaps explain the lack of records...and the appearance of non-European blood (in my opinion) in a photo of Louise Dingman while her mother's photo clearly shows she's European. It may be a mystery never solved, unfortunately.

Interesting. I found that in several places, though they probably all came from the same source.

Where did you find the correct information or what's your source. I'm not doubting it, I just want to make note of it in my records.

Also, do you know who Jacob's parents are then? Is it possible he is the location of the Indian ancestry? The photo I saw of Louise Dingman looked like she could possibly have some Indian ancestry, though certainly not full blood...and the photo I saw of her mother showed her mother was clearly European.

Also, could you send me the information generally that you have on this Dingman line as I have a feeling there's much to be corrected in my records now. Sources are appreciated.

Thanks!

Peter Dingman and Margaret Gardinier are NOT the parents of the Jacob Dingman who married Phobe Tripp! Jacob son of Peter and Margaret Dingman remained in Columbia County NY area lifelong and was mentioned in their will. This Jacob was about 20 years older than the Jacob Dingman who married Phobe Tripp. Dan Buchanan thought this was the correct line but it is NOT.

Yours,

Julie Hendricks

I met Carol Dingman in 1973 at his Son Wes' home in Lewiston, Idaho. He was a charming man. He was related through his father, (John Wesley Dingman, son of Peter Dingman, grandson of Philip Dingman & Barbara BOYD).

My line is Jacob Dingman.
Hi,
You mean JOHN Wesley Dingman. He was a son of Peter Dingman and Grandson of Philip Dingman.

A few years ago there was a huge problem because there was another John Dingman who married a Mary Dougherty and lived in nearby Iowa and the ages were also close. We searchers had a hard time sorting out these two couples. Also John Wesley Dingman married about 4 times so it wasn't easy.

I am related to the Jacob Dingman Family who also lived in Crow Wing County. (Louise, Mrs. John H. Hartman, Solomon Dingman, Schuyler J. Dingman) We think Jacob may have been a brother or cousin of Philip Dingman but we have no proof.

I wish I still had the information on John Wesley Dingman but I turned it over to members of that branch of family.

Best Wishes,

Julie Hendricks

The earliest "Dingman" I have found is Adam Dingemans/Dinghmans b.1540 in Antwerp, Belgium. His family moved to Amsterdam, and at the age of 31 married Janneke Gerrits (who was 21). Janneke was from Germany. After their marriage they moved to Haarlem in Netherlands. They had several children, one of which was Gerrit (Gerrart) Dingmans. 1629 Gerrit married Janneke Teeuwese. Gerrit and Janneke had a son Adam, born in 1831, who eventually emigrated to New Amsterdam (New York City) in North America. By 1655 he had moved up the Hudson River to Albany County, NY. In 1663 he was living in Greenbush in Albany County. In 1668 he married Aeltie Jacobson Gardinier.

I have more information if anyone believes they may have a connectin.

I am searching for Henry and Rachel Dingman of New York in 1800's. I e-mailed you for permission to access your site and did not get a return. I would like to see if there is a connection anywhere. vah_mom@hotmail.com Veronica
