Hi, Gordon:

I see that you have been immersed in the Dinnie family for many years and thought you might like this information related to the John Dinnie/Mary Gow family from Williamsburg, ON. You may already have this info, but just in case... I recently visited the Colquhoun Cemetery near Williamsburg and took photos of 3 Dinnie tombstones. Here are the transcriptions (I will send the photos to you if you are interested):

John Dinnie
Died
Mar. 4, 1900
Aged 75 years & 10 days

Mary
Wife of
John Dinnie
Died
Oct. 20, 1869
AE 43 y's 5 m's 7 d's

[There is a poem at the bottom but it is illegible]

Margaret
Dau'r of
John & Mary
Dinnie
Died
Feb. 5, 1869
AE 15 y'rs 11 m's 12 d's

[There is a poem at the bottom but it is illegible]

These stones are side-by-side in the Colquhoun Cemetery, located on Beckstead Road, Williamsburg Township, Dundas County, Ontario.

At one point, there was some suggestion that we had Dinnies in our family, but this has since been disproved. I took the photos because I am related to many Colquhouns buried in this cemetery and the "Dinnie" name rang a bell.

Hope this helps someone.

Kathryn

Dinnie/Coutts

Gordon
I hope you can give me the benefit of your years of research. My grandfather was William Henry Coutts. He lived in Shevington, Lancs. He had a brother called Alexander who emigrated to New Zealand. He also possibly had another brother called Andrew who died at Wigan Swimming Baths. My greatgrandfather was called William Coutts who also had a brother called Alexander. My father thinks Alexander had a daughter called Jean and a son Andrew. Alexander and William had a sister called Margaret who married a Dinnie. They lived in Lower Ince, Wigan, Lancs, and had a son called Lawrence. Although I have the dates for William's marriage and birth, I believe his father was Alexander, I am unsure as to who he was married to, his birthdate and wife's name as well as his parentage. I have been on familysearch org. but haven't enough information to really narrow it down. The family have gradually moved down from Aberdeenshire to Barrow to Wigan to Somerset. Can you help? Please email me at
jas@zoom.co.uk. Thanks, Jenn.
