You are correct about L. P. Dinsdale and Martha Birch marrying in Burnsall Chapelry in Conistone in Yorkshire, Eng.
And yes, the descendants you also have correct. I don't know any more about Martha (also Mary) Birch. I have her birthdate as 1816 in Yorkshire. L. P. was born in Hubberholm, Yorkshire. They had a total of 7 children: Jane, Elizabeth, James, Mary, John, Ellen and Alice. James is the father of George James Dinsdale.

Hi! I sure wish I knew more about Thomas and his family. All I really do know for sure is what he had written on his tombstone, which was that he was born in Pocklington January 10, 1829. Not 100% sure beyond that to be honest. I know he arrived in the US (Wisconsin) before 1848, as he appeared on tax records at that time (in Portage Co WI).

Did any of your Iveson immigrate to Canada? I think Thomas had a brother who settled in Quebec sometime around the same time Thomas came to Wisconsin. I wish I knew more! It is very possible that our families may be connected, but it will take some digging to find out for sure.

Elise, MN

John also had a brother called Thomas who I think married Eleanor Dinsdale abt Dec 1787. they had several children between the years 1789 to 1799 and also two children including a James who were christened before their marriage date.
Regards Margaret

Dinsdales from Durham

Do you have any information on Dinsdales from the Durham area. My Dad John Dinsdale was born around this area - his dad John (James) Dinsdale died when he was 4 - his mum (Hannah Margaret Craggs) married again to Bob (Robert) Middleton and they settled in Ingelton with dad's sister Peggy. He also had an uncle called Wilson Dinsdale he died in his 30's.I think John James Dinsdale's father was William John Dinsdale who married Alice Scarr? (spelling unknown) again I think from Durham Area and I also think Hannahs father was called Thomas Craggs and her mother died very young. Can anyone help me trace this side of the Dinsdale family as I don't seem to have any Dinsdale relations left now except a brother Bernard.

From "History of Grant County, Wisconsin", 1881, p. 984.

TOWN OF FENNIMORE

JOHN DINSDALE, farmer, Sec. 25; P. O. Fennimore; born in Yorkshire, England, in November, 1825, where he was married to Tirzah Chapman. They emigrated to Wisconsin via New Orleans, and up the Mississippi River to Galena, and thence to Grant Co.; left Liverpool Feb. 22, 1849, and reached Grant Co. on the 7th of May. In May, 1850, he entered 80 acres in Sec. 36, town of Fennimore, which is a part of his present farm of 400 acres; he built a log house on his first 80 acres, where he lived eighteen years, when he built his present residence; he is engaged in general farming and stock-raising. His present wife was Miss Grace M. Eddy. He had twelve children by first wife, eleven of whom are living - Elizabeth, James, Isabella M., Zipporah, B. C., Dorothy, Alice, Hattie, Abbie, Matthew E. (deceased), Mary A. and Tirzah C. By present wife - Eddy (deceased), Ella T. and Grace A. His son James met with rather a singular incident about 1860, when he was 12 years of age. A bald eagle of immense size came down upon his father's farm and attacked a flock of geese. After a severe contest with a plucky gander, the eagle was finally dispatched by James with a club. James graduated at Rush Medical College, Chicago; is now practicing medicine at Soldiers' Grove, Crawford Co.

[I am not related to this family.

I had to hunt up where Garsdale and Gayle were. <g>

The limited research that I have been able to do on my DINSDALEs has two brothers, John and Peter, born c. early 1800s in Leyburn, YKS (interpretation required of place of birth). Which I have determined is a little to the east of your two villages.

Both these brothers married in Cumberland, West Riding, in mid 1820s and I pretty certain to two sisters HAYWOOD, before both moving to Witton-le-Wear, DUR to work in the mines there.

Tracing the Dinsdales is not one of my better success stories. :(

My fuller information available at
http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=SHOW&amp...
Hi Frank, Don't know if this is any help to you. I have been researching my family tree. My surname is DISDALE. So far I have established that we originated from Suffolk/ Norfolk in the UK. However picked up your comment re WGC (Welwyn Garden City. Herts.
I lived there in the 60 70's 80's 90's and 2 of my children where born there. My parents also lived in Hatfield which is about 3 miles away,on the same registration, they also appear on the Civil Registration, well their deaths anyway. The reason I am contacting you is that during my research I have found a family that on the 1841 Census UK begun as Disdale. Its very clear to see the spelling as DISDALE By the time we get to 1851,the spelling of the surname has changed to DINSDALE. I have yet to confirm by certificates what the correct spelling shoud be, although wonder is this would help as it would be recorded as it was told I expect. However as far as I can make out they were watchmakers/ jewellers. This indeed was the profession of my fathers ancestors and indeed brothers. I can remember as a child being at my Uncles Jewellers shop(He was also a Diamond Merchant and Watchmaker) . An eldery gentleman who I think was a cousin of theres. Also a Diamond Merchant, would visit on many occasions.
Hope this may be of some help

Ann

My great-grandmother was Margaret Dinsdale born in Darlington England in 1839. Her mother was Mary (Burnside) her father was Francis Dinsdale, born 1813. Margaret Dinsdale married Thomas Bulshey (changed to Bulch). In Colleen's message, she mentions the name Metcalfe. There is a Metcalfe in my great-grandfather's ancestry - Dorothy Metcalfe was my great-great-grandmother and her father was Jeremiah Metcalfe and her mother was Elizabeth Emerson. My grandfather was Christopher Bulch (later changed to Balch) and he was one of 13 children born to Margaret Dinsdale and Thomas Bulshey in New Shildon, Durham, England about 1873.
