Hi Dolores, I think it is another family. I have a John the son and a Mary-mother and daughter-they came to the US and settled in Hoboken, NJ. They are related to Richard Densmer-who died in Naas, Ire in 1849 and his wife Anna Mary Giltrap- co. Wicklow-who brought the children to the US-maybe by way of Canada-the oldest daughter Anna "Maria" married Wm Early Oldfield and had her first two children there. The name is misspelled in the 1860 census as Densmore. Later info says they came over around 1852-I haven't been able to find the arrival.
Onita

Onita:

I saw your post and decided to give you a shout out. I have been trying to track a family of Dinsmore's - John & Mary from County Donegal. According to their daughter's, Mary J Death Certificate - John was from Co. Donegal and Mary was from Glencovet, Drumhome, Donegal. John & Mary would have been born early 1800's.

The daughter, Mary J arrived in the US around mid 1850's and married and settled in So NJ.

Please let me know if any of this info matches.

Thanks,
Dolores

Mary Elizabeth Dinsmore m. Norman Thomas Sandborn

I am searching for the family of Mary Elizabeth Dinsmore, the first wife of Norman Thomas Sanborn/Sandborn.

She was born 01 March 1842, location unknown - likely Ionia County, Michigan or Allen Co, New York.

She married Norman Thomas Sandborn (b. 28 Jan 1841, Allen Co, NY) on 01 March 1859, presumably in Ionia County, Michigan. It is also possible that they married in New York.

She died on 12 November 1862 at the age of 20 in Michigan. She is buried in the Portland Cemetery, Portland, Ionia Co, Michigan.

I have no further information. I am unable to locate any birth, death, or marriage records for Mary Elizabeth.

Please let me know if you have any information that might help me in my search. Your help is greatly appreciated! I will reciprocate with any information that I have which you might be looking for.

Thanks in advance!

I am descended from a sister of theirs, Sarah Jane Densmer-spelled this way in Ireland and spelled differently on every US census. I have recently been able to trace the family back one more generation in Ireland. There are several other people online researching the family who are very nice and have interesting things to share-photos, letters and a map. If you are still looking, let me know.

Re: Ross H. Dinsmore

You might want to check out the names Dunmore and Dunsmuir.

See "Lindores Abbey and its burgh of Newburgh: their history and annuls, pp 433 to 436."

In the process of being anglicized from a celtic language, Dunmore has been spelt many different ways. The addition of an "s" to Dinsmore and Dunsmore comes from the anglicisation of the possessive "'s". In records of the 12th, 13th and 14th century, the name is often spelt Dundemore, which again is a frenchification of the possessive "de".

The name appears in the Ragman Roll as Dundemore.

The Dunsmores, Dunmores and Dinsmores appear to have been relieved of their lands in Fife by the Catholic Church and later by the Scottish Crown. This would account for their flight westward.

I've written some of this up in the wiki page under Dunsmore.

By the way, the names Samual, Robert, John, James and Richard are also in my family. My great-great-grandfather Robert immigrated from Donegal (Antrim) Ireland in 1823. My Dad always told me he was a Scot, and my relatives appeared to have only married Scottish Protestants, so for sure, they're from Scotland and their Protestants.

By the way, Thomas of Dun[de]more was Bishop of Ross, circa 1309, so that might be the source for the first name Ross.

Charles Dinsmore, born abt1848, son of Stephen/Charlotte, lived DuPage Co.,IL & Clinton Co., IA

I have an original framed tintype photograph described in handwriting as being of “Charles Dinsmore – son of Charlotte Eames Dinsmore (sister of Grandma ‘Lurcley’ who was Cornelia Eames)”. The name “Linsey” is unclear and could be Lurcley or Liucsey(?). I’d like to get this photo, which was taken about 1864-1865, back to descendants or family members. Charles looks to be about 16 years old or so, but there is no photographer’s location given on the paper frame, although I suspect it was taken in or near Dupage Co., IL.

I found Charles in the 1860 census for Bloomingdale, Dupage Co., IL, as age 12, born in Illinois. He was son of Stephen I. Dinsmore (age 37) and wife Charlotte (40, born NY), Living in the home were Stephen & Charlotte’s daughter Mary (4), and a Sarah “Emes”, (age 35, born NY). Illinois Marriage database shows that Stephen H. Dinsmore and Charlotte Eames were married in Dupage Co. on 3 Jan 1846. In 1850 Dupage Co., IL census, the name is spelled Dinsmoor, and with Stephen (38) and Charlotte (30) were Charles (4) and Sarah Eames (age 69, born Connecticut).

In 1870 census, “Steven” (48), Charlotte (50), Charles (22) and Mary (14) lived in the same place in Dupage Co. By 1885, the family is found in the Iowa 1885 census, living in Clinton Co., showing Stephen (62), Charlotte (65), Charles E. (36) and Mary E. (28). I found Stephen H. in DeWitt (Clinton Co.) IA in the 1895 Iowa census, indicating he was age 72, born in Maryland. By 1900, I found S. A. Dinsmore living with daughter Mary, in Clinton Co., IA showing Stephen’s birthdate Dec 1822 in Maine, and Mary’s Oct 1856.

Get back to me at margerice@prodigy.net if you are related to this Dinsmore family.

I am a direct descendant of the two Samuel Dinsmoors who were governors of NH in 1835 and 1855. I was told in Edinburgh back in 1969 that Dunsmuir is an origin for Dinsmoor and Dinsmore.

Do you have any info on the locations the Dinsmoors came from in Scotland? I am stymied by Duns, in the Borders, and by locations near Blair in Perthshire. Laird Dinsmoor was suppsoed to have orginated from near the river Tweed in the Borders.

Any help would be appreciated.

Dinny White

Capt. Elijah Dinsmore Was originally Elijah Denbow. He was disgusted with his Salathiel Denbow's colorful exploits so he changed his name and moved north. There he founded what is now known as the 1785 Inn in Intervale (I believe it was actually 1783, but don't have the records at hand). He and his descendants (for a couple of generations) are buried out on the edge of the ridge behind the Inn.

My mother did the genealogical lines 20 years ago, but they are all packed away in boxes in Jackson.

My father, Joe Dinsmore Jr, and his father, Joe Dinsmore Sr., migrated to McMinn Co, TN from Greeneville, TN. In fact, there is a Dinsmore reunion in Greeneville the last Sun of June. Most of those attending are descendants of one of my Grandfather's brother, Samuel Greeley Dinsmore. Do any of these names ring a bell to you?

Harold Pattey Dinsmore b. 1903 in Philadelphia m. Hilda Heath

Searching for ANY info on Harold Pattey Dinsmore b. 1903 in Philadelphia and his wife Hilda Heath b. abt 1911 in Maryland. It is my belief that Hilda Heath is the grand-daughter of my great-grandfather, David Weeks', 2nd wife, Sarah Tooley (also spelled as Toole in some records). I can trace Hilda through the 1930 census but I cannot verify that she is THE Hilda Heath who married Harold Pattey Dinsmore (there were 2 born at about the same time, in the same area). IF my Hilda IS the one who married Harold Dinsmore, then she might have remarried after his death - and may have married a man by the last name of Gratz.

I am looking to confirm any and all of this information...but it has not been easy. ANY and ALL help is greatly appreciated. My main goal in all of this is to try to find out about my great-grandfather - and my hope is to find out if there are any records from Hilda that might help me to know more about him.

Thank you very much for your help!!

Hilda Heath Dinsmore b. 1911 Maryland - living in Bellefonte, Delaware in 1944

I am searching for any information regarding Hilda (Heath) Dinsmore known to be living in Bellefonte, Delaware in October 1944. She was the wife of Harold Pattey Dinsmore and the daughter of Oscar Cleveland Heath and Ethel Tooley.

The reason for my search is very strange...but I will try to explain...Hilda's mother, Ethel, is the daughter of Sarah Tooley. Sarah was married twice...first to Mr. Tooley and then to David Weeks. David Weeks is my great-grandfather. I know absolutely nothing about him, except what I have found online. Just recently, I was able to locate his obituary but it contains little information about his life and nothing about his first wife - my great grandmother. My hope is to find something, somewhere, about this family and hopefully, this will lead to finding information about my family.

I have recently found that Hilda's husband, Harold, was apparently murdered in North Carolina...and I have a copy of his death certificate. I know virtually nothing else - except for what is contained in census records.

If anyone can provide any additional information, I would greatly appreciate it!! Thank you very much!

NOTE: I am also posting this on the New Castle County, Delaware message board.

Not sure about his death date. I have only work of mouth for this. Liste as a resident in a boarding house at 226 Phelps Street, Jacksonville, Florida.
