I am also doing research into my the Dinzey side of my family in St. Barths. I have read that Charles Stewart Carstairs Dinzey had a child, James Dinzey, with a colored lady whose name was Eleanor Skatelborough. I know that my great grandfather, Charles Culpepper Dinzey was of mixed race. His father was William Dinzey, a mariner but I haven't been successful in going further back.. Have you found any information relating to this branch of the Dinzey family?

Wow Phyllis I spoke to you many years ago i was about 14 years old at the time but didn't know much info. i a now 29 years old!

Anna Beatrice Dinzey is my great great great aunt. Her Brother was Richard Burton dinzey. They were both John Keithley Dinzey's children. John is my great great great grandfather.

As of recent we had no idea that Anna had children. What were there names?

Richard Burton Dinzey had two children. John Richard dinzey and Edward Dinzey. He had them with a woman of color and sent his two sons to a boarding school in the Dominican Republic so that they would not face racism since some islands were more tolerant of color at the time.

This is some info I have:

Dinzey Family Info (Domingo A Dinzey)

This is a description of the ancestors and descendents of John Richard Dinzey, born in Saint Christopher Island (Saint Kitts & Nevis) in the year of 1887, and who lived in the Dominican Republic until his death in March 3, 1981.

1. Thomas Dinzey (whose people came from England by way of Barbados and St. Kitts to Saba) was Vice-Commander of Saba from 1778-1801, Commander from 1801-1803 and Vice-Governor from 1803-1809 during Dutch rule and occupation by British and French.

2. Sir Richard Dinzey, Knight, is Thomas Dinzey's son, who was born on Saba in 1796 and died in St. Barths on August 15th, 1860. He married Eliza Peterson whose family came from Denmark. She was born in 1802 and died in St. Barth’s in 1886. He was made a knight of the Royal Order of Wasa by King Oscar I for fidelity to his sovereign and devotion to the interest of his adopted country. He was a faithful friend of Protestant Episcopacy to him. As a faithful tribute and in gratitude a tablet was erected by his devoted wife and children. This plaque is on the interior wall of the first Anglican Church on the Island of St. Barth’s.

3. Sir Richard Dinzey had several children, a daughter Roberta Dinzey, Peter Dinzey, Joseph Dinzey, and Dr. John Knightly Dinzey (John K Dinzey). Dr. John K Dinzey was the medical officer at St. Kitts. He graduated from Jefferson Medical School, Pennsylvania, United States of America. He innovated the technique for the treatment of tetanus with great success.

4. Roberta Dinzey married on June 15th, 1850 a Swedish nobleman, Carl John Ridderhjerta. They had a daughter Augusta Gabrielle Robertina Ridderhjerta Dinzey. Augusta Gabrielle married Axel Victor Emanuel Dolman, also Swedish nobleman, on February 24th, 1873. Axel died in 1926 and Augusta passed away on May 17, 1922. They had no children.

5. Peter Dinzey was born in 1839 (don't know the month and day) and died on November 14, 1919 due to an automobile accident in Brooklyn, New York. He was pronounced death at Jewish Hospital, and is buried at Greenwood Cementary. I obtained copy of the Certificate of Death at City Hall, New York, NY, registered No. 21896, issued by the Department of Health of The City of New York, Bureau of Records.

6. Joseph Dinzey, another of Richard's sons, at the age of fourteen was sent to Burlington College in New Jersey, U. S. A., to complete his preparatory education. This was an Anglican boy's boarding school and he remained at the school for four years. In 1853 he entered St. Augustine's College, Canterbury, England to prepare for the Ministry. He return to St. Kitts (West Indies) and was nominated assistant curate of St. George's Church. He was ordained priest on August 19th, 1858 and one year later received his license as Curator of Christ Church, Nicola Town and St. Mary's Church, Cayon on the island of St. Kitts. Then, one year later moved to St. John's Church, Antigua as curate of St. Lukes Chapel. The Reverend Joseph Dinzey is now remembered as the founder of the Compton Anglican Girls College in Compton County, Quebec (1874-1884).

7. Dr. John Knightly Dinzey (John K. Dinzey, M. D.) had a son and a daughter. His son's name was Richard B Dinzey and Anna Beatrice Dinzey. Richard B. Dinzey was born in Philadelphia in 1862 when his parents were by there for a while. Anna Beatriz was born in 1866 on St. Kitts (St. Christopher Island). Richard Burton Dinzey entered to New York City in a boat from Jamaica, in the Caribbean, through Ellis Island in 1910. Richard Burton Dinzey met his son John Richard Dinzey in Panama Peninsula in 1910. (Copy of the boat's documents is in Ellis Island Museum. Domingo A Dinzey has a printed copy of the landing of John B Dinzey in Ellis Island, NY). On April 23rd, 1910, Richard wrote a letter to his son John, who was living in the Dominican Republic with his brother Edward. The letter introduces in this way, quote: "I sent a postcard which I hope you have received safely. I received your letter and was very glad to hear of your safe arrival in St. Domingo...etc." (Dominican Republic). The original of this letter is in a safe place in Bronx, New York, at the house of one the John Richard Dinzey's daughter (Beatriz Dinzey), copy of which is on the hands of Domingo A Dinzey, in Bronx, New York, as of today, May 19, 2004. The letter finalizes, quote: "Your affectionate father, John B. Dinzey".

8. Anna Beatrice Dinzey, Dr. John K Dinzey's daughter, married Lewis Webster Harvey in 1898 on the County of Brooklyn, New York. No further information is supplied as of May 19, 2004.

9. Richard Burton Dinzey (Richard B. Dinzey) had two children and a daughter, John Richard Dinzey and Edward B Dinzey. John Richard Dinzey was born on September 2nd, 1887 in the Parish of St. John in the Island of St. Christopher, in the Federation of St. Christopher & Nevis (St. Kitts & Nevis), as per Certificate of Birth No. 256452, page 157, issued by the Registrar General in the Island of St. Kitts on December 7th, 1993. John Richard and Edward B Dinzey's mother was Louisa Carey as per the same certificate. No further information is available about Louisa Carey.

9. John Richard Dinzey and Edward Dinzey, Richard B Dinzey’s sons, lived in the Dominican Republic since 1901 and died in 1981 in the city of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.

Edward Dinzey did not have any children and died in 1968 at the age of 74.

John Richard Dinzey had several children born in the Dominican Republic.

John Richard Dinzey had about 57 children in the dominican republic and puerto rico included.

Are you related to any Dinzey from Curacao? I understand that all Dinzey's are related. This a very unusual name. We are from Trinidad, however our Grandfather Francis Dinzey was from Curacao, his familiy is in a history book from a small island off of Curacao (I cannot remember the name of the book). From what I understand our name is French Creole. We have family throughout the world including Italy, Canada and USA.

Hello Domingo, My grandmother, Anna Dinzey, was born on St. Christopher 1866. Her father's name was Dr. John K. Dinzey. His father was Sir Richard Dinzey. I think we may be 2nd or 3rd cousins.
You can reach me at> harveypa@hotmail.com.
I have lots of information.
Regards,
Phyllis Harvey

Thank you for your answer. We surely are family, because my father John Richard Dinzey was born in St. Christopher Island on Sept. 2, 1887; his father was John B. Dinzey and his Grand Father was Sir Richard Dinzey. We have two originals letters from him to my father, but we really don't know where he is bared. We would like to know the Dinzeys familiy, because we are a few and most of my brothers have died. As far as I know there are still some Dinzeys in the USA from the original familiy that came from West Indies in the 1850s.

My e-mail is kdinzey@hotmail.com. My son e-mail is tdinzey@hotmail.com

Please, reply.

Origin of the Dinzey name!!!

Is it Norman or Anglo? I found that the first Dinzey recorded in History was one who came with William the Conqueror in 1066 to England.
But there are not records that indicate that the name was actually French.
Well, I'll like to find out more detailed information.

Let me know if we're related! I'll like to meet you!
sincerely,
rebeca dinzey
ps: if you live in SC and you're a Dinzey let me know, so we can meet!:O)
