My great-great-grandmother was Phoebe Disharoon, who would have been born in about 1800 (don't know where) and was the second wife of William Hannon, a Baptist preacher born in 1775 in what is now Polk County, NC.
William Hannon was a year old in 1776 when he and two older children survived the Hannon family massacre on the Pacolet River near what is now Columbus, NC. That large family was all killed in a Cherokee raid, except for these three children, who were raised by (we believe) an aunt and uncle, John Earle and his wife, downriver a couple of miles near Landrum, SC. William preached in the Landrum area most of his life. He first married his adopted Earle sister; after her death he married Phoebe Disharoon but we have no record of where she was from. The name was so unfamiliar in that area that she was recorded a couple of places as "Dickerson" -- I wonder if that didn't happen fairly commonly, complicating our search? Anyway she and William had several children, one of whom was my great-grandmother Mary Ann Hannon, b. 1832.
Does anyone see Phoebe anywhere on a family tree?
Thanks -- Dot
