At the Laurel County or Knox County Circuit Court Clerk office is a family tree that Thomas Balton Dizney wrote and had recorded showing his ancestry. The Circuit Cort Clerk has it on file and is open to the public. I have a copy but not sure where I put it at. Thomas Balton's father is buried at Knox County on 1304 at Hinkle at the Mooneyham/Payne Cemetery just off Hales Branch road. His wife Sallie Miller is buried beside him. The cemetery sets near where the Wilderness Trail Road came through from Cumberland Gap and the Salt Works Road from Manchester met.

Sorry to barge in. But I thought you might like this note. While at a cathedral in England or Scotland, can't remember name I walked to a large post in the cathedral, pulled a flag away from the post and saw a small brass plate that read Eliza Disney. Died 11/24/1825... Incidentally that date 11/24 is my birthday. Wrote it down but not the cathedral. I'll try to remember if it was in Scotland or England. Very odd, but then that's life.

Hi Valerie,
I'm doing research for a friend. Her aunt, Dorothy Eleanor Gildenfenney (born 9 Mar 1908 in Baltimore) married Gordon Henry Bryson then was widowed. She then married Preston Disney. There are two different Preston Disneys listed in the 1920 census index. I don't know which one belongs to Dorothy. Do you have any info on their marriage, by any chance? I would appreciate hearing from you.
Priscilla Maybury

But I'm trying to see where Eliza fits in the Disney clan, in particular what if any is the link between Eliza and a Catherine Disney (1806-53) who married Rev W Barlow.
The genealogy info I have doesn't have anything beyond the marriage of Dave/Sallie Dizney, so I can't help you beyond that...though I'm sure there are plenty of records extant for them (record-keeping was well established). Backwards I can go, but not forward. So I'm no help with your original query, but though if you could trace back a couple of generations there might be keys/clues there that would tie in with your question.

A point of clarification: it was Thomas Bolton Dizney's WIFE who legally had the name changed, not TBD himself, according to what I've got.

And yes, many relatives of mine were in the Knox Cty., KY, region, though you have to go back quite a ways.

Joseph Thomas Disney in the 1910 census says he was married twice.
Joe and America Hart had 2 children, a son and Sarah Francis Disney, born 7 Feb 1900 in Knox County Kentucky.
Sarah married Benjamin Franklin Helton and died Jan 1975 in Cawood, Harlan County Kentucky.

It seems that America most likely died soon after the birth of Sarah and Joe "Tom" Disney remarried Eliza A Fletcher.
Wes Hart

Jay; If your family was from any part of Knox/Whitley/Bell County Kentucky, or Hawkins County Tennessee then we are more then likely distant cousins several ways.

It all depends if the Jan 1, 1893 Knox County Kentucky marriage of J. T. Dizney and America Tuttle did take place, said to be at Sarah Anderson's (America Elizabeth Hart's Aunt).

My question is who was Joe's wife "Eliza"?
For what it is worth, America Elizabeth's mother Lydia Elizabeth Anderson Hart went by the name of Elizabeth.
Just maybe America did too.
Wes Hart
hart_wes@hotmail.com

The Dizney/Disney issue goes way back to George or Thomas Disney (1755 - 1853). Reportedly either the wife of George or Thomas changed the spelling in the family Bible; hence, there are both spellings for generations afterwards.

Insofar as dates/people go, many times there's a Joseph who has a son named Joseph, and Joseph's sister names her son Joseph....so it becomes very confusing because everyone's naming everyone else after relatives. That's why I mentioned the Elisha/Elijah twins thing -- not only was there a set of twins with the name, but each of them named their sons either Elisha/Elijah, and so on. A nightmare of names.

BTW, if you're related to JT Disney, then we're very VERY distant cousins. ;-)

Jay Disney

It all helps as I am also a Parker descendent from Winney Parker and William C Browning.
I did find David in the 1850 Knox County census and it does appear he and Sarah M Parker were Joe's parents.
Thanks for the info on the spelling from Disney to Dizney.
I was not aware Thomas Balton Dizney had the name changed. The 1880 census lists widow Sarah and family as Dizney, also Joe appears as Dizney in 1910 and 1920.
What I do wonder is if the 1881 DOB for "Eliza" Dizney/Disney is correct. If so, then she is not my grandfather's sister America Elizabeth Hart.
Thet said, census information has been known to be wrong and sometimes people did lie about thier age.

This isn't quite the answer you're looking for, but there is a David R. Dizney (1834) who married Sarah (Sallie) M. Parker March 17, 1855: they could be the parents of JT Dizney.

David's father was Elijah Dizney (a twin to Elisha), b. March 7, 1801. These twins had sons named Elisha/Elijah, so sorting them all out down the generations is a treat...

Thomas Balton Dizney (son of David/Sallie) married Rebecca Donaldson, who went to court to legally change the spelling of Disney to Dizney, so this differentiation of spelling is not insignificant.

In any event, I thought that this info might be helpful for tracing the family line backwards as well as forward -- all clues in the same hunt.

Roy Edward Disney,79. Born in Los Angeles ,son of,Roy and Edna Disney' **Walt Disney Company,**
Born in Los Angeles on Jan. 10, 1930, Roy Edward Disney was Roy and Edna Disney's only child.
LOS ANGELES (AP) —
Roy E. Disney, the son and nephew of The Walt Disney Co. founders who twice led shareholder revolts that shook up the family business, died Wednesday. He was 79.

The Walt Disney Co. announced that Disney died in Newport Beach, Calif., after a bout with stomach cancer.

Although he generally stayed out of the spotlight, Roy Disney didn't hesitate to lead a successful campaign in 1984 to oust Walt Disney's son-in-law after concluding he was leading the company in the wrong direction.

Nearly 20 years later, he launched another successful shareholders revolt, this time against Michael Eisner, the man he'd helped bring in after the previous ouster.

Disney, born in 1930, had practically grown up with the company. His uncle Walt Disney and his father, Roy O. Disney, had co-founded the Disney Brothers Cartoon Studio seven years before, later renaming it The Walt Disney Co.

Two years before he was born, the company gave birth to its iconic cartoon character, Mickey Mouse. While Walt was the company's creative genius, his brother was the one in charge of the company's finances.

Starting in the 1950s, the younger Roy Disney worked for years in the family business as an editor, screenwriter and producer. Two short films he worked on were nominated for Academy Awards: the 1959 "Mysteries of the Deep," which he wrote, was nominated as best live action short, and the 2003 film "Destino," which he co-produced, was nominated as best animated short.

Despite his heritage, Roy Disney never got the chance to lead the company as his father and uncle had. But as an investor who grew his Disney stock into a billion-dollar fortune, he ultimately had a huge impact on the company's destiny.

In 1984, dissatisfied with the leadership Walt's son-in-law Ron Miller was providing, Disney resigned from the company's board of directors and sought investors to back a bid to install new management. (Miller was the husband of Diane Disney Miller, Roy's cousin.)

His efforts resulted in the hiring of Eisner and Frank Wells, who led the company as a team until Wells died in 1994.

During that time, Disney rejoined the board and rose to become the company's vice chairman and chairman of its animation division, where he helped oversee the making of such hit films as 1994's "The Lion King."

He also became a savvy investor over the years, forming Shamrock Holdings with his friend and fellow Disney board member Stanley Gold in 1978. The fund grew to become a major investor in California real estate, the state of Israel and other entertainment and media companies.

In 2007, Forbes magazine ranked him as the 754th richest person in the world and estimated his fortune at $1.3 billion. He was not on the list in subsequent years.

In his spare time he bought a castle in Ireland and indulged his passion for yacht racing, setting several speed records. For years he was a fixture at the Transpacific Yacht Race between California and Hawaii.

After years of dissatisfaction with Eisner's leadership and the company's lagging stock price, Disney and Gold resigned their board seats in 2003 and launched a shareholder revolt.

In his resignation letter, Disney called for Eisner's ouster, complaining that on his watch the company's standards had declined, particularly at theme parks like California's Disneyland and Florida's Walt Disney World.

"The Walt Disney Company deserves fresh, energetic leadership at this challenging time in its history just as it did in 1984 when I headed a restructuring which resulted in your recruitment to the company," Disney wrote to Eisner.

Initially rebuffed, Disney rallied small investors and enthusiasts who responded to his folksy complaints about peeling paint at the theme parks and his anger at being told he would have to leave the board because he was too old.

"One of the reasons for my leaving, other than the fact that they fired me, was that I saw that quality slipping away from us," Disney told a 2004 meeting of memorabilia collectors.

Slowly, Disney built support for his cause, and at the company's annual shareholders meeting in 2004 he received a standing ovation.

Shareholders eventually delivered an unprecedented rebuke to Eisner, withholding 45 percent of votes cast for his re-election to the board.

The chief executive was later stripped of his role as board chairman and announced his retirement in 2005, a year before his contract was up.

Disney initially opposed Eisner's successor, Robert Iger, but they reconciled and in 2005 Iger named Disney a board member emeritus and welcomed him back to company events.

Born in Los Angeles on Jan. 10, 1930, Roy Edward Disney was Roy and Edna Disney's only child. As an adult, he often wore a mustache, which gave him a striking resemblance to his legendary uncle.

After graduating from Pomona College in 1951, he briefly worked at NBC as an assistant editor on the "Dragnet" TV series.

After joining Disney, he worked on a series of live action short features, including "The Living Desert" and "The Vanishing Prairie."

Disney was also an active philanthropist, supporting the California Institute of the Arts in Valencia, a school founded by his father and uncle.

In 1999, he matched a gift from The Walt Disney Co. to establish an experimental theater space as part of the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles. The theater was named the Roy and Edna Disney-CalArts Theater or Redcat.

In 2005, he pledged $10 million to establish the Roy and Patricia Disney Cancer Center at Providence St. Joseph Medical Center in Burbank.

Presumably Dora AARONS and Carl DISNEY can be found in the 1930 and previous census records. Finding living people is a different matter, however. For hints about finding living cousins and other relatives, see:

http://genweblog.blogspot.com/2006/02/finding-living-persons...

You don't state your relationship or why you seek Larry Disney?
