My Great Grandfather was a Thomas N. Dison or Dyson. He came from Alabama. Was married to a Jane Meacham and had 7 children. Apparently she died and he moved to Texas...East of Dallas. Married a Minnie Belcher and had 3 more children. Between 1900 and 1905...he just disappeared. His last 3 children were raised by Minnie's parents. They lived up in Rains County, Hopkins County...and others near there. Children were: James Allen, George W., Bert, Carrie....and the last 3 were: Cora, Nora and Charles. Thank you. Looking for Dison/Dyson ancestors.

addie

My Great Grandfather moved from St. Claire County, Alabama to East Texas back in the middle or late 1890's. They settled in Rains County, Texas. His name was Thomas N. Dison....but my Grandfather, one of his sons....changed his last name to Dyson back in 1920's. So we all are Dyson now not Dison. It seems Thomas Dison disappeared after his last son, by his 2nd. wife, Minnie Belcher, was born...his son was born in 1901....and then nothing is heard from them again....would appreciate any help from anyone. His children by 2nd wife was: Cora Dison, who married a Oscar Mills; a Nora Dison, who married a Robert R. O'Neall, and a Charles Dison....who apparently is buried up in Silverton, Texas.

Thanks.

addie

Dale, I too am looking for information on the Dison's. I have located sources for Ed dison who is married to Myrtle Sapp. Where i'm stuck at is his Mother and Father. I have a source that list Missouri Harrison as his Mother and his father i also Edward dison. I have a census record (1870) that list Missouri Harrison at age 15 living with Thomas Harrison and Orra Harrison, Thomas being from NC. our family has always been told that Ed Disons mother was Cherokee indian which would explain the nc birth and later move to Al and arkansas as my father said when the indian tribes moved many relocated to Arkansas. If you have any info I would appreciate it, and if you need more info and dates i can get them too you.

Thanks any info is appreciated

I am looking for information on Thomas Dison (b. 1801 or 1802), whose mother was Sally Toombs. She married a Dawson around 1806 and had other Dawson children, but Thomas is listed as her firstborn son with last name Dison. Does anyone know if he had a different father from his siblings or perhaps changed his name from Dawson to Dison? All the records I can find indicate he was born before her marriage to R. Dawson. I am VERY new at this. Any help is appreciated!
B. Dison
Thanks for the heads up on "Sparkling Waters"! I will look at it. Most, but not all, of the Disons in St. Clair were from GA and are not from the same clan. My Disons came in from NC via TN. I will look anyway. They may all be from the same source of the MD/VA border area early in our colonial history. What is your interest in Daniel Dison and Wealthy Caroline Ginn? Good hunting.--Dale

Lafayette Dison/Dyson is my 3rd great grandfather. Some have incorrectly stated that he died in 1864 in Virginia. Careful research of those records from 1864 showed that the records did not refer to Lafayette. Lafayette died 30 April 1862 of the measles. His regiment was hit hard by a measles epidemic. My cousin, who is a great grand-daughter to Lafayette, confirmed this through stories told by her father. He said that his grandfather died of the measles.

Circumstantial evidence led me to believe that Lafayette was a sibling to James Dison. You provided more than I had found...the Sevier County birth and the sister-in-law to James in Pontotoc. Could you please tell me how you got the county of Lafayette's birth in Tennessee, and who the sister-in-law to James was in Pontotoc?

I really appreciate your help. I had kind of moved on from Lafayette because I couldn't prove anything, but you are giving me hope!

Hey,
It is good to hear from you. I am a little familiar with your family. I met Rick and his wife at the transmission shop on one of my genealogy trips. He did not know very much about his genealoty at the time; however, we felt there may have been a connection from Northern LA and Southern AR area. Many of my AL relatives ended up in that area. I will check my lists for Luther. Rick gave me a CD of the country music (I call it Texas Road House) band that he was a part of. I believe that he also had a daughter in the military (Army?). He and my brother talked about her. My brother was a Sgt Maj at the time. I will try to contact your sister after I look at some of my genealogy records. Thanks. --Dale

Hi...my father was Luther C. Dison. His father was Daniel D. David Dison. I never met either of my dad's parents as my grandmother passed before I was born. My grandfather died about the time I was a year or so old. I was born in 1951. I do know that my grandfather lived with my mom and dad for a while before he passed away. I will forward your information to one of my sisters, Sander who lives in Carthage, Texas. She knows much more of the Dison ancestry than I and will prove more helpful to you. My dad was born in Junction City, LA. I believe. He pipelined for years around La. but always was a "shade tree mechanic". He moved our family to Carthage when I was 6 years old and soon stopped pipelining and opened a gas station/mechanic shop there. He did this for years until he retired. I have an older brother, Rick who has had a transmission shop in Carthage for about 35 years or so. The name of his shop is Rick Dison transmissions on Hwy. 59 in Carthage. Feel free to contact him too. Hope this helps with some of your questions. My sister Sander (above mentioned) phone number is 903-693-3155. She works nights at a motel in Carthage, but if you call, please leave her a message as she does not have an answering machine. Hope to hear from you soon!

Several of those are not directly kin to me, however, they may be indirectly kin from the VA/MD state line area. Most of the Disons in St. Clair County came to Alabama from GA while my direct descendents came from NC via TN. They cam around the time of the Cherokee land distribution. Give me a specific name and I will check to see what I know. Merry Christmas! -Dale

All I know: N. Thomas Dison/Dyson DOB 1850, Alabama. Married a L. Jane Meacham, in Alabama: Children: Addie, Stella Louise, Ida, James Allen, George w., Bert and Carrie Dyson. All of the first 5 were born in Cooks Spring, St. Claire County, Alabama...the rest I think in Texas....cause in the 1900 census under a Tom N. Dison (or Dixon) they lived in Rains county, Texas.
Hello. My grandfather was Tennis Dison, born in Alabama in the 1920's. I'll ask my mom for the exact year, Nov 21. I don't know much about his parents. I do have a photo, and can see if anyone knows their names. He claimed to be part Cherokee. His nickname in later years was Alabama.

Hello Denise-
According to your note it has been about 20 years since you wrote it, so I certainly have only a small hope that you still will receive this. I am Jim Anderson, in Madison, Alabama. My mother's people are Dison's, and I can relate closely to your history. My great whatever came out of N,C. by way of Tennessee and then into Alabama as yours. My relatives are still around here near the Alabama/Tn line, but it's difficult finding info. Should you actually receive this after this lost decade, I will gladly give you what I have. I can probably give you some info on Louisiana and Texas Disons. I am at jimmyleeanderson72@yahoo.com, and you may reach me on my cell at 256-520-9553.

I have only Thomas B. Dison, son of Daniel and Wealthy Caroline Ginn, b. 12 Jan 1852 in that time period. Thomas married Nancy Isabella Monroe and they had 7 children. There are three more Thomases in the 1890's.

Allen Terry Dison, b. 1869 m. Ida B. Branam whose father was Thomas E. and mother Sarah Jane Dison, b.1871.

There is also another line of Dison that came to AL from GA rather than TN and they also had a Thomas B. in the same time period. I don't have info on them readily at hand.

If you have some specific quetion, let me know and I will try to answer it. --Dale

Hello judygosling
I'm very glad to find another person who is interested in Ellen Dison. The Gosling leads me to think that you are related to Juliet? When we were in London we met Anne and Elizabeth, who are my second cousins. We learned from another cousin that Christopher Gosling had been doing some research into the family, but I've never met him. Perhaps he is your father?
The Ellen Dison story is very confusing. She was born in Milbrook, Southampton but I know that she and Henry were married in Ireland and that she had spent a portion of her childhood there. In her letters she referred to a big "sadness" in her childhood in Ireland, but also mentions having very happy memories of her childhood. In her letters she said she had met Henry Collen at the home of John Hayter in Ireland, actually and that he was "like a brother to me before I was married."
But, the rest is confusing. I began looking in Southampton records. the census records reveal that her mother was Elizabeth Dison Hayter, having married a John Hayter (the same one? Don't know) later in life after they had both lost their first spouses. I am lead to believe that Elizabeth's maiden name was Lomer. (I could explain how I figured this out, but not here!) There is a marriage record for a Elizabeth Lomer and Thomas Winder Dison in Southampton. But, why were Ellen and Elizabeth then in Ireland? And, there is some confusion about the year that Thomas Dison died, which leads to all kinds of ideas about all of this.
I don't know if I am on the right track, and I certainly would like to confer with someone. I have more information, so let;s try to figure out a way to share it......
Carolyn

Hi Carolyn, I am also wanting to find more information out
about Ellen Dison. She married Henry Collen who was a direct ancestor of my mother (and therefore of mine.) My father spent a great deal of time tracking her down, at least the internet (since his time) has told us she met him at the Hayters house in London. I should like to find out about her family and where they lived in Ireland.

I still do not have the name of a spouse for James Daniel and I am still working to establish information on several other members of the extended family that I believe came from Isaac C. Dison. I am slowing adding information, however, the Disons did not leave very many clear tracks to follow. I now believe that their were six brothers, Lafayette being born after the 1830 census in TN. The missing 1890 census has been a tremendous gap in following all these brothers. I would be happy to share info with you on the family. Contact me at daledison@hotmail.com . Look forward to hearing from you. --Dale

Hey Denise,
You probably have most of your info by now. I was reviewing some of my Dison info and found your inquiry from 2000. Thornton Lafayette Dison was born 16 Feb 1880 in Clay County, AL. He married Tina Beatrice Lett who was born in 1884 in AL. I don't have a marriage date. They had eight children between 1902 and 1921--Lillie, Timothy, Charley, Millard, Rufus, Alvin, Jack Pershing (Blackjack), and Vivian. Jack's father was Elijah and second wife Susan Eugenia Rardin. I can give you more information if you contact me at daledison@hotmail.com . I would also like to have more info on who Jack married and children and info on the spouses of Jack's brothers and sisters. I hope to hear from you. --Dale
